- What you'll need is a crossover cable which you can pick up at any Radio Shack Store. The item is 278-2011 priced around $10. It uses Cat 5E technology which has the same ends as any Cat5 or Cat6 Cable but doesnt have USB , it simply plugs into your ethernet connectors on your laptop or desktop computers.You can find it in the same dept as the Ethernet Cables and Networking equipment. Some mother board can support two to four SATA disks. 2.SATA disk needs a thin narrow red cable for data transfer between mother board. 3.SATA disk needs a special power plug. Infacts it uses the same type 5 volts and 11 volts but convert them into more contacts to feed the SATA disk. Some new type power supply has this plug for SATA. Other older type power supply requires an adaptor cable converting the 4 pins plug into SATA plug.
