- its possible the partition information on the SD card is damaged. look into the program testdisk to see if you can repair it. if not, photorec (which comes with testdisk) can do a raw recovery of your image files. it would be a good idea to take it to a local computer repair store (one that doesn't suck, and not bestbuy) to see about recovery if its important. if the data is not, try to format the SD card and see if it works again. if you know someone with linux, try loading ubuntu live disc on your system and see if it can recognize your SD card. linux usually has an eaiser time understanding messed up data, which is why i prefer it for data recovery.

- have you tried installing it to other desktop computer? you may need to install it to other units or from its original source(HP Pavilion a819n desktop). And if it wont be detected by other computers too, then it is already not working or somehow damaged. Because as far as your using windows Vista almost all of the plug and play hardware are being detected(that includes your card reader). But if your hardware came with a driver, you should install it. And with your case, you dont have a driver for that device you may try to download those driver from the manufacturers support page. hope this could help.
