Q:When was the hot-wire anemometer invented? and who was it?
Who Invented Anemometer
Q:I am replacing an old outlet with a GFCI and I have encountered a red wire...what is the red wire for?
In general, bare copper wires are ground, white are neutral, and black or red are hot. Make sure all wires are completely separate from one another, and then turn the power back on. Be careful not to touch any of the wires. Use your voltage tester to find the incoming hot wire. The wire should be black. The white wire in the same cable will be the neutral. Additional white and black (or red) wires will be extensions of the same circuit test them as well.
Q:I have 1971 slide in truck camper with 5 way pin wiring wires are red, white ,yellow, black, green.need to know what wire's do what...thanks
The wires are as follows: 1 = Trailer (battery 12+) wire (for trailer break-away battery) 2. white= ground 3.Green= right turn 4.yellow=left turn 5.Brown ( should not be black) is the tail lamp circuit ADDED: Ground on trailers are always white! And there is NO Black wire on a trailer harness! (if there is you will need to trace it out because someone put the wrong color wire in there!
Q:I just installed a Unity Spotlight on my 2007 Chevy Impala. There's a 6 inch wire coming out of the handle. When I stripped the wire there is a few strands of copper wire. How do I wire up the light? There isn't a distinct positive or negative.
I okorder /... check out literature for others, if this don't help.
Q:The wire on my headphones were cut clean off in the middle of the wire. Is there any way it can be fixed? I tried to find out other ways but it seems one of the only ways is to strip the wire of its covering. Is there a way to fix it without burning the wires?
I totally agree with Mr. Smith. However, I would use heat shrink tubing for a neater look than the tape.
Q:I have a very old house. I was unhooking the fluorescent light in our kitchen to put a round ceiling light in and the old fluorescent light was plugged into the ceiling (like any regular two pronged electrical plug). How do I wire the ground wire, the line voltage wire, and the neutral wire from the new light so I can plug it into the plug in my ceiling?
I would remove the outlet and wire the light with the wiring powering your outlet. Black to black, white to white and ground to ground. Just like you would have if the outlet weren't there.
Q:awg is an american stander to manufacturing electrical wires
AWG has about 44 different size wires. Do you mean #19 as opposed to #10? #19 is usually not available, only even numbers, such as #18 or #20. so if you are using #19, it must be specially manufactured. #19 is a lot thinner than #10, 0.036 diameter vs 0.1 #10 can handle a lot more current then #19, 15 amps vs 2 amps edit: 12 awg (13x0.504+6x0.37) = 19 wires. 6rm ( 7x0.85) = 7 wires Those are called STRANDS. some wire is made up of strands of smaller wire twisted together so the wire is more flexible. But it can be all one strand, it can be a few, it can be hundreds, there is no real standard on that. If you search you can probably find #12 with 1 strand, 19 strands, or other numbers. Although 19 strands seems most common, there is no real reason for that number. .
Q:I recently bought a set of DT Moto emergency lights for my pickup and after installing them i found when i went to wire them to my battery the wire was too short. I didn't install the grille lights just the visor. Could i cut wires from the grille set and wire them to extend the visor light wire?
I'm looking online to find out what DT Moto lights are. Ok, I see what they are. I didn't know the brand name. LED lights in general are not high current, so they probably use lamp cord. I want to explain something to you about polarity. Electronic circuits are sensitive to the polarity of the DC electricity. The positive (+) and the negative (-) connections must be observed. So many people have absolutely no clue about this. There are just two wires. But if you extend them, you have a 50-50 chance of wiring correctly or incorrectly. There is only one allowable way. If wrong, it WON'T work, and probably will blow up the circuitry. So connection to battery or cigarette lighter plug is extremely important not to reverse the polarity. If just the LED lights got reversed, they wouldn't light, but they wouldn't be injured. Just reverse the wiring. But to the 12 volt source, polarity can't be wrong. Not for an instant. If you look closely at the insulation, you will see that one wire has smooth insulation, and one wire either has milti-ribbed insulation, or a single rib down the side. If you extend wiring, make sure to connect smooth to smooth and ribbed to ribbed. Wires should be soldered with electronic solder and the joints covered with heat shrink tubing. No crimped barrel connectors, or twisted bare wires with tape, or house wiring wire nuts. These methods all beg for failure. I don't know about robbing wire from one place and connecting to another. Is the one wire actually too long? You'll never need it? I guess you could take it. But me personally, I'd go get some wire from a lamp store. Match the wire conductor gauge (size), not the insulation size. Most lamp cord is 18 gauge. Some is 16 gauge. You can get 14 gauge or even 12 gauge. Thicker is a smaller number. Places that install car audio systems often have/sell thicker lamp cord. Have I told you enough?
Q:The black wire is called ground but what is the red wire called?
In single phase AC circuits it's hot (ungrounded). In three phase AC circuits it's A phase. In DC circuits it's positive.
Q:A horizontal current-carrying wire, free to move in Earth’s gravitational field, is suspended directly above a second, parallel, current-carrying wire. (a) In what direction is the current in the lower wire? (b) Can the upper wire be held in stable equilibrium due to the magnetic force of the lower wire? Explain.I assume they travel in opposite directions if they are both charged the same, but I think my instructor wants something more specific. Any help is much appreciated.
Current carrying wire does not have extra charge but only flow So there is no electrostatic force between them. The magnetic force is present only when current flows through both wires. If it flows in the same direction then they attract. So if the lower wire is fixed and you wish to suspend the above it must repel it to overcome the gravitational force due to earth acting on it. Hence the wires must carry currents in opposite direction.
