- Q: I can rent a small/medium sized excavator. not a mini, but not a huge one....will use it mostly to dig out stumps and move some boulders, but do you know if its capable ot pushing over pines and birches up to 6 to 8 inches in diameter? Id love to just level clear an acre or so..... Thoughts?
- You don't say where you are or what kind of soil you are in, but you should be okay getting them out with that equipment. Most of the roots will be in the top couple of feet of soil and mostly within the dripline of the tree (some pines spread out a little wider, but not enough to make a huge difference). I would start by ripping the roots and digging a hole on the side where you want the tree to fall, then moving to the opposite side and pushing the tree down with the arm.

- Q: I have recommended him the rock type bucket teeth but was told that he had already tried and it didn’t work because it cannot penetrate into the shale and slate effectively and has wasted him a lot of time and money.Anyone has some better idea on this?

- Q: We built our own house two years ago and moved in April 2008. We had the excavators back-fill after inspections. Since then the soil has been settling down to the point now I can see the top of the tar on the foundation. How long does this continue? It seems to have slowed down this past year, but it has messed up my plans of planting around my house. I want to put more dirt around the foundation to build it back up where it is suppose to be, but then I'd have to wait on that to settle. That is a lot of dirt. I'm debating on doing it myself or have the excavator come back in and do it for me.
