- Q:I am a mechanic but I have very little knowledge of hydraulics. The following hydraulic responses are way too slow: bucket movement and the right hand side track movement. The slew/swing motor has no power. I am wondering if these functions are all fed from the same pump and it could just be a pump adjustment?? I know the pump was recently replaced with a cat dealer reman. unit. Please help ASAP.
- The hydraulic pump provides the pressurised oil to the control valves, which have solenoids on them that allow oil flow through them when power is applied, which depending on application makes a hyd cylinder or hyd drive motor operate. The handles on either side of the operaters chair have micro switches inside them that power the solenoids on the valves. The valve body assemblys, or sandwich valves they are called, are able to be pressure ajusted independently to make more or less movement to whatever it operates. On the bottom of the valve theres a cover for the valve spool, the allen wrench fitting in the base is the pressure ajuster. BUT DO NOT ATTEMPT TO AJUST PRESSURE ON ANY PART OF THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM WITHOUT A TRIPLE PRESSURE REG GAUGE. PRESSURES IN SYSTEM EXCEED 3000 PSI AND IF INCORRECTLY AJUSTED COULD CAUSE A PRESSURE COMPONENT TO FAIL AND HURT OR KILL YOUR SELF OR SOMEONE ELSE

And also after the Seabees, im planning to attend U.T.I (Universal Technical Institute) to further pursue my career as a Master technician. Is it worth it? Or not? Any suggestions? - As a CM you'll be working on everything from excavators and scrappers to semi tractors to M-wraps to bucket trucks to those little Honda water pumps. I don't think the Navy gets into certifying you for ACE as a matter of business, but you have your Chiefs of Alpha CO and the education PO of your battalion to ask and get help getting them. As far as transferring into civilian life, everyone is looking for good mechanics and hydraulic guys. If you get a chance to kind of specialize in something, look at what companies are screaming for and try to go to C-school for that. I don't know anything about UTI, so I won't go there. Be advised that Seabees require a higher ASVAB and line scores than a lot of rates and it's a five year commitment. Also they just decommissioned four Battalions due to 0bamas fake budget cuts, so it's going to be tight getting in.
