- Every canister vacuum I know of has a way to put a plain floor brush on the end of the wand instead of a beater brush. Shop-vacs also just have plain brushes.

- I have the Eureka Boss SmartVac and I love it! It does a great job. I have kids, pets, and a husband who works construction, and it gets up all their dirt/dust/hair/etc... The suction is great and it has a switch to turn the beater bar off so you can use it on any hard floor surface. It's not bagless, but I had a bagless before, and I would never have another one again. It's very reasonably priced and I can't see how a Dyson could outclean it. Hope this helps. Good luck!

You should also eliminate and such even if you don't take either of my suggestions; the such as at the beginning already implies that there are other similar examples so it's redundant as well as repetitive.

- I would check the belt first. But, the beater bar on my hoover sometimes gets threads or my long hairs wound around the ends which prohibits it from turning. Then you have to take a pair of scissors and cut it in several places and pull it off. Also, check your filters. Mine sometimes get clogged with dust and dog hairs (mine is on the side of the vacuum) which really affects the suction. If you don't have a new filter, just beat the dust out of it on the side of a trash can.
