- Q: Anyone know if that type of ceiling tile has asbestos? Unsure of the year built. It has a texture to it which is why I‘m worried about it.
- No. That looks like just ordinary lay in ceiling tile. Texture is not really and indication of asbestos. Lots of things have texture that are not asbestos.
- Q: Is it possible to remove just the top row of the ceramic tile on my bathroom walls without damaging the remaining tile? I‘d like to replace the top row with glass tiles for a more updated look.

- Q: If you were going to tile an entire room would you start from the walls or floor? The room is only small 12m walls 4m floor is a basic toilet basin. There are no border tiles no fllor to wall tiles.
- To be honest with you it does not matter if you do the floor or walls first. Some people prefer not to do the floor first as they will make a mess of the floor when doing the walls and it will take additional time to cover or clean the floor. And NO you do not always start in the center. In some cases starting in the center will cause you to have very small cut tiles on the edges. You should measure and find the center and dry test tiles with the 1st tile centered in the room checking to find the cut size of the tiles on the outside end. You should never have a tile less than 1/2 on the end. Example a 1 or 2 cut tile is a mistake if the tiles are 6 or larger. If the tile is less than 1/2 its size then start with the 1st tile on the edge of the center line. Always keep the same size cuts on both sides and never end up with small pieces.
- Q: Looking to install ceramic tile over concrete basement slab, 12x12 or 13x13 tiles. Main question is how perfectly level/flat does the concrete need to be. If I put a tile down and there is some minor rocking is that no good or will the thinset adhesive take care of that.
- Any rocking means the tile is hitting either a high spot or there is a low spot. Low spots can be dealt with the thin set. As long as its less than a 1/4. High spots usually needs to be ground down flat. So to answer your question , for ease of installation and the prevention of cracked tiles at a later date, floors need to be as flat as possible. If you have minor rocking with no thin set down, in some cases a larger sized trowel will do the trick. Each case is different and has to be dealt with differently. - Yes, if you want the tile job to hold up. The backer board must be water resistant because of the location. It is rigid and gives a firm solid surface to lay the tiles on - otherwise they'll eventually start coming off and you'll have to re-do the job.
