Q: do i remove toilet, vinyl tile and sink cabinet. under lay for tile? what holds ceramic tile down?
you really should pull the vinyl up, even if it's a hassle, because it could buckle in the future and affect your tile work. Go to your home store and see if they have a solvent that will loosen the adhesive holding the vinyl down, then scrape it all up. Hopefully it will be concrete underneath and not another layer of vinyl (happened to us in a kitchen once). Clean it really well, then do your tiling. Be sure to use the correct adhesives and grouts. There is also a sealer you can use that will insure the grout never stains, something *she* will appreciate when she never has to get on the floor with a toothbrush to clean out the muck between the tiles. :) Good luck and happy holidays!
Q: My bathroom size is 7 ‘*11 ‘. If I want to use 20*20 tiles, will it look good? I want to use bigger tiles because I don‘t like grouts. Can we put anything to make the tile not so slippy?
My sister has 20 by 20 in her kitchen and it looks very good. Darker grout doesn't look like it gets as dirty as lighter grout. I know you didn't ask that but I thought that might be why you don't like grout. You can get textured tile or non slip tile.
Q: In my Bathroom, I want to update the tile. It‘s the small rough octagon shape in white w/black speckles. Grout is also white. I hate it, stays dirty. Thought about sanding it and putting a dye and sealer on it, but I dont know if this can be done. 2nd choice is replacing the grout w/black but I am back with the white tile, does anyone know if the sanding and dyeing it would work? I thought I would try this first, it would be cheap, because I have a sander and I can do it myself.. and thought I could maybe use the dye you use to dye clothes (possible?) and then just a polyurthane to seal. If I do anything else like, remove ceramic tile, this may be costly..Any suggestions?
If you are dealing with ceramic tile and you sand it, you will see the red clay backing come through. Don't do this. You will wind up replacing the tile anyway. If it is just the grout color you want to change, there is a grout colorant that you can purchase to dye the grout to what ever color you want. If the tile is also dirty, you will probably want to replace the tile as well. You can pull up the old tile, or you could put down a new subfloor and tile over that. Check with your local stores, Lowe's, Home depot, etc. You should be able to find tile at a good price and knowledgable people to help you with the project.
Q: I am looking at removing the existing wooden fire place surround (not a mantel, but some decorative wood surrounding the fireplace), and the 70‘s fireplace hearth, and replacing each with some nice slate tiles. The slate would be attached to the wall, and to the floor. Is there anything I should know when attaching (slate) tiles to a wall? Do I need to remove any paint, or can I get an adhesive that will bond (PL Premium or regular mortar mix?). How close should the grout lines be with slate? I know with marble you want them close, and with ceramic you can have some space. How do you ensure the tiles don‘t slip when attached to a vertical wall. Sorry for the questions, but I do appreciate any suggestions and answers!
you like a damp tile observed. they are in a position to be bought for approx $a hundred and fifty.00. i grow to be going to lease one (which could have been a expert style) even though it took me way better than sooner or later to diminish all the tiles, so i bought it. Works great and characteristic tiled 2 different rooms considering then.
Q: I just cant figure it out i must have wasted 10 pieces of tile trying the tile that is currently laid on the floor..it hasnt been cut at all to get it to fit..and its not two pieces..its one piece of tile that has 2 circles cut into it that fit perfectly that looks like the radiator was picked up and the legs placed into the holeshow do i do this? i know you are SUPPOSED to cut the tile in half and them put it back together..but..im just curious if there is a way im not thinking about??
You have to buy a pair of tile nippers. And to be quite frank, the holes were probably drilled their first but, you have to score your tile in half and nip half circles in either one to replace it. In this case, you have to score your tile in thirds and mark where the holes should be and gently nip your half circles. A little at a time. Try this, get a piece of tile and mark where the holes should be and using a hole saw( a round saw that fits on a drill, a little larger than the existing pipe)then drill your holes While squirting water on it at the same time to prevent friction and when this is done, score your tile from the center of each hole. This should do the trick.
Q: The tile in our master bathroom is really ugly, but my husband likes the acual tiles themselves. The house was built in 1978 and the colors show bigtime. My question is this; can I paint the tiles a different color or am I just stuck with really ugly tiles until get a ton of money? If I were able to, how would I do this? Thanks in advance!
You can re-glaze tile as an alternative to replacing it, but it is VERY time-consuming and complicated to do and won't be that much cheaper than replacing. Plus you'll only be able to have a solid color instead of these beautiful stone tiles that are becoming more popular. Better to wait until you have the money to spend on nice tiles.
Q: We are laying 18 x 18 porcelain tiles in our kitchen for an open house we‘re having in 6 days. We can‘t figure out when and how to tile under the refrigerator. Do we have to move the refrigerator into another room? Can we wait two days for the mortar and grout to set firm and move the refrigerator onto the newly installed tile so we can lay tile where refrigerator will go? If we do that, should we then wait 24 hours for that tile to set so we can move the refrigerator back into place? What is the best way to handle the installation? I would appreciate any thoughts on how this is most ideally done.
If the kitchen is big enough move the fridge after you have found the center of the room, set the the quadrant with the fridge first using speed set or quick set for that area. then tile as much as you can without ruining your path for the fridge. after 3 hours mix just enough and grout only where the fridge will cover because that grout may turn a different shade than the rest of the room. next day finish setting your tile, next day grout the rest of the job, replace 1/4 round, and you have a finished product provided you layed the tile on an approved substrate, cut your jambs and mixed your setting materials properly.
Q: What are the different types of tile and how much of them does it take to cover 1 square foot nad what‘s the cost of them
i h8 bodhists.
Q: Used 600x300 glazed tile for the whole outdoor building. 30% tile gum and cement mixed for the work. 6 months later, the Tiles begun to fall off the wall leaving the cement still strongly bonded on the wall. I mean, the tiles ONLY fall donw, not with the cement. Note: We usually soak SOME ceramic tile with water before pasting them, IF the type call for that. But the type is apparently out of the case of water solution.Granite is even heavier than that and yet lasts virtually with building.
Outdoor Wall Tiles
Q: just had a tile floor laid and i noticed some were higher than the one next to it in about 6 tiles. my husband says every house will have those. does yours?
