- Q:i have these ugly light blue ceramic tiles in my kitchen (as a backsplash)..they are fairly big squares ... and the owner before me tried to paint the grout between them because the paint (or whatever it was) is coming off so now the grout is gross dark grey coming through...anyways...i was wondering if anyone had some easy ideas to cover up the ceramic tiles.
- They have a thin piece of granite that can be installed over the top of an existing counter top, but those are designed primarily for resurfacing a regular laminate counter top. I'm not real sure it would work on a counter top that is ceramic tiles. You'd have nearly the same type of look you have now. I believe they stock these granite counter tops at some of the big box stores like Lowe's. To change the look to a regular laminate counter top, you'd likely be further ahead to have the old counter top removed and a new top installed like you want. Some contractors may be able to save the old counter top so you could sell it if it could be made to fit somewhere.
- Q:Can you give me your opinion? White beveled subway tiles with dark gray marble floors, or mahogany brown large rectangular floors with matching size walls in beige tile? I was thinking of adding a glass border for accent, the tile store lady told me to put it up high, one right below the last cut of tiles as opposed to between the faucet and mirror. Do I still stick with the white toilets and bathtub? PLEASE help! Thanks
- Hi Mrs K, I would choose as you said, White Subway tile. But, I would choose Light Grey for floor tile. With a very light color grey grout as well. I agree to add the glass accent tile above within the white subway tile. I would choose the white toilet and bathtub. Any other colors that you choose are easy to match with this color scheme ( lilac or green towels are a thought that look great with the white grey combo). Over the years, all your accessories can be easily matched and changed cost effectively.
- Q:how do you clean up ceramic tiles? they dont seem to shine but look very dull whenever i clean it with water and soap. is there a product i can use to clean them and at the same time leave them shining?
- sure hun-there're 2 products i'd recommend for this job: Tilex for soap scum and other residues in a shower .Works on bath tub surface as well.Or in case of a heavy old deposits-use comet powder first, applied with two sided sponge and then rinse off and spray with Windex and finish by wiping with a dry cotton cloth. your tiles will shine as well as your bath tub or shower floor. :)
- Q:My kitchen floor tile has a number dings or chips caused by something heavy falling on them. Is there a way to repair these without having to remove/replace the entire tile?
- Depends on how bad they are. Sounds like you have an very inexpensive tile on the floor or it would not have all the chips/dings. A cheap temporary fix would be to find a paint to match and just touch up. If you're renting, just try that. If you own, you could do that temporarily while you save up. When you replace though, make sure you get a good quality porcelain tile.
- Q:We are thinking about adding small mosaic or stone tiles on our kitchen backsplash. We recently went to a short class at Home Depot on tiling. The guy there reccommended installing a backerboard on drywall first. Is this difficult for a first-time DIYer? Several of the tutorials I‘ve found online install directly onto the drywall. Any recommendations? What are the consequences for installing directly onto the drywall? Thanks in advance.
- There okorder /... Hope this helped! Enjoy your new kitchen!
- Q:Standard Specification for Common Tile and Flat Table
- 80x80 floor tile is 0.64 square 60X60 floor tile is 0.36 square 0.3X0.3 floor tile is 0.09 square 0.3X0.45 wall tile is 0.135 square square square ÷ brick square number = brick number such as 80 square floor laying 80X80 floor tiles 80 ÷ 0.64 = 125 tablets ? The answer was adopted by the questioner
- Q:Is there a paint that can paint over bathroom tile?
- particular. verify you purchase appropriate tile paint from DIY shop. prepare with a small curler in small sections. Take care We additionally tiled over some tiles as long as tiles are enterprise on the partitions you won't be able to tell and you will be able to pickup deals. Tile paint isn't much less high priced and might rather make a multitude.
- Q:Staining and grout removal aside, are there other disadvantages to using natural stone tile for bathtubs?
- For the outside sounds really neat... and if inside we are talking well drained sand floors with slope to outside(remember New Orleans... it was the levees designed to keep city dry that flooded it!) Expense would be another good reason besides you do know how hard ring around the tub is on vinyl/fibercase/porcelin tubs NOW imagine porous rock... But as cost no object allow larger size(for rock sides/bottom) build water tight container(well supported- no joke intended) with drain/ overflow and then place rocks and grout(optional) away... you are doing this ground level or then ALSO consider weight and add new truss supports etc. Will this new tub be inspected by city/county? They may have something to say... or if you have plans to ever sell... Looking better and better outside? Concrete pond ! Yeah I know,,,
- Q:How to effectively remove the glue marks on the tiles?
- How to effectively remove the glue marks on the tile 1. The usual use of wiping oil coated to wipe evenly, slightly with nails to pull out the part of the first pull out, the rest of the wet towel to wipe off. 2. With a hair dryer blowing with plastic parts, the glue can be very easy to get off the bar. 3. Spray the oil spirits in the location of rubber marks, after a while a plastic mark that is out, may wish to try. 4. With alcohol + eraser can also be, although this method is more tired, but the effect is good. 5. You can take a piece of vinegar covered with a rag to cover the whole place of plastic marks, until the plastic sticky stains completely wet, you can use the ruler easily removed. 6. If you can, first with blisters, and then coated with a little detergent, and then look at the effect of old toothbrush brush. 7. with a cloth dip tip or Erguotou wipe will have a good effect.
- Q:We had to remove some tile and break out the wall behind our shower/bath wall in order to put in a new part for new fixtures. So, now we need to repair that portion of the wall (about 3‘x2‘) and re-tile it. Do we need to use greenboard (it looks like either that or just drywall was used originally) or cement board? Also, how do we join the new portion of backing to the old portion? When tiles are removed, they damage the old backing -- so I can‘t take off an extra row of tiles and then have that backer exposed in order to tape and put mortar over. Hubby says we can cut the backer to fit the opening, and then just go ahead and tile, and that the grout will effectively seam and waterproof those joints where the new backing meets the old tiled backing. Any suggestions?
- You want to use the concrete backer board for wherever you hang the tile. You need it to help support the weight of the tile on the wall. For the rest, it is probably a good idea to use the greenboard to resist the moisture. And actually, if you get a brand name faucet for your shower, you shouldn't ever have to break out the tile. Most of the bigger name faucet companies have it so the guts of the faucet valve can be pulled out without ever getting into the wall. Then since the back portion is pretty much generic for most of their faucet you should have a variety of new faucet styles that will fit over that valve. You just need to get the kit for the style you like. Just go to a store that specializes in plumbing or bathrooms.
