- Q: I am trying to replace the window switch for the driver side and forgot the order of the wires. Can anyone hlep me.
- Check out the link below. This is actually for the replacement of the window motor for the 4th gen. f-bodies. But, it does show picz of the switch and the wires leadin to the switch. Good luck!
- Q: I need help installing a Pioneer DEH-P3700MP in a Saturn S Series 2001, the wiring harness does not fit and need to know how to connect the wires. Which wires go to what on the Saturn?
- Just about any car audio shop will have an adaptor that will fit. they do not usually cost more than 10 dollars, Walmarts, bestbuy, all have them.
- Q: I recently purchased a used car already wired for an amplifier, however, when I looked at the wiring i found that the installer ran 8 gauge wire and then crimped it to a 12 gauge wire (with fuse) that connected to the battery is this bad? should i change it to 8 gauge? Or does it not matter?
- you okorder /... you can pull 20 amps 6.6 feet but you can not pull 25 amps any distance so if your amplifier has two 15 amp fuses in it, you will need to swap out the 12ga section for 8ga.
- Q: I have 12/3 wire running from the breaker box on a 20 amp breaker that powers a bathroom (2 lights and 2 receptacles). I want to splice into this and run 14/2 wire into the living room to run 6 recessed lights. Is this OK to do?
- No, that is against code. Splicing is not allowed nor can you use a lesser gauge on a circuit. To clarify: splicing exposes otherwise insulated wire. The splice has to be done properly such that no wire is exposed, the splice is hardened and this is achieved using a junction box of NEMA appropriate to the installation conditions. A 20A circuit for a bathroom means there is an exhaust fan since a couple of lamps and receptacles do not normally call for that much. That means the circuit has to be able to support 20A and that means the entire circuit. If you extend the circuit using lesser gauge wire than you downgrade the circuit's ability to handle current. This is a fire risk and is a strict no-no.
- Q: I'm trying to install a ceiling fan but I'm having trouble with the wiring. Coming out of the fan I've got a black, white, black and white striped, and a green wire. coming out of the cieling i've got a black, a white and a red wire. The fan's green wire is connected to the bracket as a ground, so that's out of the way. It's the other wires that confuse me. I've tried, white to white, black to black, and BW striped to red, but that didn't do anything.Any ideas? Thanks.
- The black and white striped is so you can turn the light and fan on separately. So at the fan hook white to white/black to black and striped to red. Then at switch box hook all white wires together with a wire nut, then a black power wire to both switches ,1 for fan 1 for light. Then the red wire coming from fan goes to a switch and the black wire coming from fan goes to a switch. If you want to run fan and light at the same time and just use pull string on fan then just hook black wire and striped wire together at the fan.
- Q: Wire 1 and wire 2 are made from the same metal. Wire 2 has a larger diameter than wire 1. The electric field strengths E1 and E2 are equal. A) Compare the values of the two current densities. Is J1 greater than, less, or equal to J2?B) Compare the values of the currents I1 and I2. Is I1 greater then, less or equal to I2?
- The current will be more dense in the smaller wire. The value of the current is inversely proportional to the resistiance of the wire. Resistance = resistivity * length / Area since the wires are of identical material and length, the only thing left to vary is the cross-sectional area. Area is proportional to the square of the radius (diameter), so the current will be proportional to the square of the diameter. I2 is proportional to I1^2 I2 is larger than I1 .
- Q: i have two 12 gauge wires running from my battery to my sub amplifier, does this effectivly mean i have 6 gauges. each wire has a 15 amp fuse so does that also mean i have a 30 amp fuse?
- Funny you should say that. Since if you look closely at the grade of wire in each of the bundles of wire and compare them to a 6 gage wire bundle. 12 gage wire is a little thinner and not quite and strong and 6 gage wire is heavy and thick and really sturdy. this is so it carries the load of power better and it doesn't have many small wires that can overheat or become frayed because the bundle is stronger as a whole. Essentially by running the wires in sets of 2 different 12 gage wires you double the risk of a fire, short, or other electrical damage caused by the possibility of each or both wires becoming overloaded. 12 gage wire can only individually support a certain amount of power, and whether you double it or not you have basically violated the wires ability to have a safe current run through it as a constant. So, You better get down to the store and replace all that wire you doubled before you burn out your system, melt the wire, or torch your car.
- Q: If 46 m of nichrome wire is to have a resistance of 12.0 Ω at 20°C, what diameter wire should be used? in mm
- Resistance of a wire in Ω R = ρL/A ρ is resistivity of the material in Ω-m L is length in meters A is cross-sectional area in m? A = πr?, r is radius of wire in m resistivity Nichrome 150e-8 Ω-m 12 = (150e-8 Ω-m)(46m)/(πr?) solve for r, which would be the radius of the wire in meters. change to mm, and multiply by 2 to get diameter. .
- Q: I have a 200 amp main breaker just below my meter, which is mounted on a pole. The neutral wire coming in is run to ground. From this box, I've run 2 cables (1/0) ~80 ft to another box with a 150 amp main breaker. This box is grounded to an 8ft ground rod. I am wondering whether this setup (no neutral wire from meter pole to building) would potentially allow a ground fault without tripping the 200 amp main. For example, if somebody dug into the line with a backhoe? Oh yeah, the cable is in a 3ft deep trench that will be covered. I have an abridged version of the NEC, but I haven't found this particular topic covered. Thanks.
- Amy, you're so sexy when you talk electrical! I LUUUUUV You ! :-)
- Q: tryin to move dryer approx 8 more feet but existing wire not long enough have 12/2 wire can that be used to run 220 dryer
- 12 wire is not heavy enough to pull a 220 dryer under any circumstances, and is against ANY code in America; and is a severe fire hazard. Besides, you need to have three wires - 10/3 0r 8/3 wire, anyway, so you would have a ground. Papaw
