- Q: I wired up my brothers stereo in his 1994 volvo 850. At the time, I knew nothing about wiring harnesses so I did everything one wire at a time. I got it working but the stereo can still run with the car off. If you turn the radio off, a small led stays lit on the front. My brother couldn't get his car to start this morning. Could this little light be drawing enough power to run the battery dead over night? Should he just get a wiring harness and hook wires up like that?
- If the stereo runs even with the ignition turned off, then you have wired a continuous power supply to the radio instead of an accessory, and that will drain his battery. I always recommend using a wiring harness when installing an aftermarket stereo, as there is no way you can accidentally wire something wrong.

- by wiring kit do you mean the amps power kit? some of which will include speaker wire for the subs anyway usually your amp will come with instructions that tell you what the minimum gauge is the amp will accept for power, this is the gauge power and ground cable you will want to get maximum power to the amp and to prevent overheating issues, typically amps under 400 watts rms power will do fine with 8 gauge, amps 400-1000 rms will use 4 gauge and 1000+ will use 2/0 gauge wire, for the subwoofer speaker wire you can never go too big gauge only too small, a kicker 12 gauge speaker wire will work for almost any application

- You need to first disconnect the accesory wire on the aftermarket radio from the illumination wire from the car harness if you are using hose connection to turn on the radio. You need to connect the accesory wire from the aftermarket radio to the accesory wire from the car radio harness, if you are using a wire harness then it would be the red wire and if the factory radio harness is cut then u'll need a test light to locate the accesory wire. On the aftermarket radio harness/plug locate the blue/white wire that's where u will need to connect the remote wire to, in order to turn your amp on and off. Don't connect the remote wire to the illumination wire from the car, or the radio harness.
- Q: I have a set of two rotating beacon lights on my truck. I would like to wire these directly to the vehicle with an on/off switch. I picked up a two prong toggle switch from autozone, as well as some wire. I'm not sure how I need to do the wiring. I read somewhere about running wire from the fuse box? And how about grounding?

So if you have a short it protects the equipment as well as wire but it can protect people from fires if there is short and a fire. so in essence of your question it protects all of the above in way or another. Some breakers in some cases are protected by a fuse such as in motor or motor controls as well. There are several different type of fuses in the feid today form ow voltage to high voltage fuses and different types too.

- I never had em in my 68 460 So long as the wires are not touching the engine or exhaust. After a drive feel them to see if they seem too hot. Have fun!
- Q: Is there special speaker wire in order to run 250 watts max rms or will the oem speaker wire in the car be sufficient (did not originally have an amp and is most likely at 50 watts max rms). - most likely the wire pre ran in the car was 16 guage wire which is fairly small id recomend atleast 12G for speakers and 8G for a power wire.

But his has limited functionality, less range and slower speed than standard Ethernet. If you want to use this wiring for long term networking, I would invest in CAT5 wiring.
