- Q: I have burned holes in my rug that need repaired. I have a piece of the same rug. Can this be repaired eaisly.....or best to call repair service.
- Cut a square piece of the rug out. Take an old pair of jeans. Cut out a square 1 bigger on all sides as the cut square of the rug. Use Elmers glue and glue the jeans square to the subflooring then put glue on the top of the square. Cut a piece of the carpet from the piece that you have the same size as the first square you cut out. Place it on top of the blue jeans square and press down to make sure it is totally catching the glue. Voila!
- Q: I am getting carpet installed tomorrow (Monday). I had bent it to get it upstairs. I kept it bent for about 1 week. There is some wrinkles now near the middle. Will this stretch out when he installs the carpet in the room???
- no doubt about it they will come out. I bend carpet all the time around corners. It will take a little time for the carpet to relax but it will. You could help it by unrolling it so it will flatten overnight. Also if it's still wrinkled tomorrow you could use a steamer. Just steam the wrinkles for a second. When the installer stretches your carpet and kicks it in the wrinkles should come out anyway.
- Q: my daughter knocked the iron of the ironing board and has burnt the carpet. the colour of the carpet is a biscuit colour . please can any one help any ideas ?????
- I hope no one was hurt by the hot iron. As others have mentioned, your options are somewhat limited, with regards to a burn. Synthetic carpets tend to not only 'burn' but also melt... so its not likely that it can be shaved off...the damage will be too deep. If you have a section of this carpet in a closet, then your best approach is to have someone use that piece to 'patch' the burnt portion. The process isnt terribly difficult, but it does take some skill, and a seaming iron. Any carpet fitter that has done seams, or patterns, could do this for you. Basically, a piece (larger than the burn) will be cut out of the closet portion, then lay it over the burn (being careful to line up the fiber/weave direction), cut through both pieces of carpet with a straight edge, and very sharp knife, apply hot melt carpet tape to the edges of the hole (to the underside of the carpet, hehe), and finally, insert the patch, and heat the seams with the iron. Someone who has had practice at this can make an almost invisible patch. Another idea might be to simply toss a decorative throw rug over the burn for the time being, or rearrange the furniture, hehehe. About the only other thing to be done would be to replace the entire carpet in the room, and if the carpet is very old or worn, then that might be a good idea anyway.... it is difficult to get a good patch on worn carpet. - I think you mean Berber carpet. Why don't you simply go to a carpeting warehouse place and see if they have remnants and get them to bind the edges and then lay it down on the good carpet as a large area rug? I did that one place I lived and it worked out quite well. I also went to a place like Bed Bath and Beyond and looked for large area rugs that they have for kids going into dorm rooms and bought two rugs and laid them over my carpet. They were good for several years and when they got bad I rolled them up and threw them away and unrolled some new ones. I think they ran about $30 per rug.

- You could take it to an antique store or oriental rug shop and get it appraised. You could do an E-Bay search for oriental rugs. You could search online for prices. You could take a picture and send it to the Antique Road Show.
- Q: I want to know where to rent a carpet cleaner, and what is the best kind to rent.Also whats the best detergent to use , etc. I am moving next week and the carpets need to be cleaned in here. They are beige and we have a dog too. Help!

- Q: I'm trying to figure out how to place a standard rectangular rug under a horseshoe shaped sectional with an oval coffee table making up the center. Should the rug go under the whole sectional with room to spare behind it? That would have to be a very large rug.Can the sectional be only partway under the rug?

- Q: Ok so i want to get new carpet in my basement and on the Home Depot website it says that youcan get any size carpet for only $139, but idk if this includes taking the old carpet out. If not, then how would i do that, and/or how much will it cost???
- The ad is to install the carpet, not purchase. You'd have to ask Home Depot if the install also includes removal and haul away. It may not for a special deal. Removal can be fairly easy if the carpet was not glued to the floor. The easy way is to peel back a corner. Tack strips are thin slat with grippers nailed to the floor that have spikes on the top to grip the carpet. Once you get it off once section, the carpet is easily taken up. However, get a carpet knife and cut them into sections for easier handling. Often the carpet is NOT under the baseboard, but right at the bottom. Letting a putty knife or screw driver under there will probably loosen it. Remove the carpet and the pad.......pads are cheap and you want a fresh clean start. If the carpet is glued down.......well, you'll need a heavy duty flat scraper and start scraping. You'll also need a carpet glue solvent and plenty of open windows...at least. You may need breathing protection, getting the birds out of the house, etc.
