Q: Which skate bearings are the best? Modus ABEC 5, or Bones Reds?
bones reds
Q: or witch hazel? im just looking through my cabinet and seeing what i have....
Im not sure.. That could probably ruin the bearings.. That could cause them to rust up over time. I say just wipe clean them with a rag.. maybe if you spray just a little WD -40 to loosen up the dirt would be ok. .. They sell this bearing lubricant at skateshops. That would probably be ur best bet... Bones also sells this speed cream for bearings... If you got good expensive bearings like Bones then i would suggest you taken care of them buy special made products to clean keep your bearings lubricated.. Me my self got a mix of bearings , Lucky ,black panthers ,black widows .. So i don't really care i just spary a little WD-40 to wipe the dirt of clean them .. Though i heard that Wd-40 tends to rust up bearings .. But i just use a little my bearings are cool.. Had them for a while now no rust.. ..
Q: ok. i got a new pack of bones reds and new wheels. i dont know how to put the bearings in properly though. if I push them in all the way to where the axel goes throgh the wheel there is a good 3mm gap between the bearing and the edge of the wheel, which i'm assuming would make it difficult to get the bearings off. should the bearings go in like that or should they only go to the edge of the wheels? thanks
Put lube around the sides then put it in the side of the wheel. To put it in all the way just use the axle of the truck to push it in.
Q: How can i tell if my wheel bearings are bad? I replaced my Calipers on both sides and my pads. I can't do my rotors myself b/c it's a 97 honda and there pressed on. My rotors are in need of replacing but smooth and i don't believe them to be the cause of my grinding noise. The grinding noise is when i am driving and gets worse at higher speeds and tends to pulsate a bit. When i apply the brakes it doesn't get any worse and feels good under the foot? Could my bearings be gone? Thanks to all you techs out there I appreciate the help!
Yes the noise is the wheel bearings because wheel bearing get louder the faster you go. The pitch will get higher or lower when turning the wheel slightly left or right.. The pulsating you feel is the rotors.
Q: ive been skateboardoing for about 1 year and my wheels are kinds slow so i would be pleased if you teach me how to clean bearings ty!
If the bearings aren't sealed, blast the insides where all the little ball bearings are with a degreaser spray, or WD-40 if you have no degreaser. Repack the bearings with some white lithium grease. You can get that in a small tube for a couple bucks--plenty to do all your bearings with.
Q: 4-ball bearings that i modded myselfhere's the link:
Basically, you've just reduced the load that the bearing can carry by about 50% and subjected each individual ball to almost double the force it originally carried. Yes, the reduction in the number of balls will cause the bearings to spin faster without a load, but since there are fewer balls and they are not evenly distributed, the outer races could distort and cause the bearing to become out of round. Basically you will have to replace the bearings more often, negating savings that the reds will give over better performing bearings.
Q: The serpentine belt in my car came off somehow and I found it in the driveway (this was a few days after it had been replaced) and my dad told me to drive my car to the automotive place without it and if it overheated just to pull over, let it cool, and then keep going. it did overheat and I pulled over, but called AAA and had them tow me, now the guy fixing my car told me my alternator bearings have failed, and that it wasn't like that when he did the belt before. Was this from the drive there? or from something else?
The alternator bearings might be the reason the belt came off in the first place. Or it is a coincidence. Either way, you didn't cause the bearing to go bad, and neither did your mechanic. It just is.
Q: How to clean your skateboard bearings ????
take it to the mechanic or you'll loosen up the housing
Q: Ok, so I've been longboarding for a while now and I've recently started doing more downhill stuff on my longboard and I have decided I would like to replace the bearings on my board from steel to ceramic. 1. Because ceramic apparently are much better and faster. 2. I have basically destroyed my steel bearings they are rusty and squeak. I know how to fix them, I've done it a few times and it works, but it's more for speed. I have a Krooked Zig Zagger board and 65mm Zip Zinger wheels. I want to know if you can replace the bearings without replacing the wheels aswell, because the wheels still have a lot of use in them?? Also, I want to join a longboarding crew or team in Adelaide, Australia, but I'm a girl so it's difficult. I know there is an all girls crew in the city, I'm all for ladies longboarding but after researching it I think they just cruise around not much hill bombing, whch is what I'm in to. If you're part of a longboarding crew, would you take a chick??Ohkays ta! xxx lt;3
Ceramics are the biggest waste of money. They are no different that regular steel bearings if you know how to take care of them. At the price of ceramics, you can buy 7 or 8 sets of Magic, MileHighSkate, or DBS bearings. Go browse the silverfishlongboarding forums and you'll understand. None of the longboarders will tell you get ceramics. Seismic Tektons or Abec11 BIltins are the most i'll ever spend on bearings.
Q: So i just bought some sector 9 ABEC 7 bearings. Is it ok if i buy the speed cream lubricant, take the bearings appart, and apply the lub without cleaning them? They are Like less then a week old (the bearings).
First off, they are a downhill bearing, if your street or vert skating i recumbent independent 7's. Second, speed cream is only really necessary when your bearings start to wear down and start to slow and make that horrible noise. if you put it in straight away it won't do much but collect dirt. so just wait a while.
