- Q: I have replaced the wheel bearings twice in 3 months now its going bad again....i didnt change the hub.Should i have done so.it looked a little grinded up on the inside.
- I wish you would have included the make, model, and year of the vehicle you are working on So we could know how your specific assembly is made. Flying off the handle saying you should replace the hub is not always the correct answer. Some are equipped with bearing races in the hubs which can be replaced separately. Generally on these models the hub proves very expensive, but the bearing race is cheap by comparison. If you are over-tightening or under-tightening the bearings, then that would be the cause for your repeated failure. Are you cleaning all the old grease out, and putting new grease in? To most this may seem like a dumb question to ask, but I have worked on one where they didn't grease the bearings at all. You have to get them packed really well with grease, don't worry about getting dirty, you will clean up later. The thing about cleaning all the old grease out is important too. When a bearing goes bad, it can leave metal shavings in the grease, and if metal shavings get into your new wheel bearings it will tear them up. Hubs, and bearing races should be inspected when replacing wheel bearings. They do not always need to be replaced.

- Q: i bought some new bearings today, Bones Reds. the guy at the shop said that they were so fast they didn't need an abec. after riding i thought that my old bearings, the rush abec-7's, went faster. i just wanted to know which is faster
- There is no way for someone to give you an answer to your question without testing both bearings on expensive equipment with specific loading. If the Rush bearings work better for you, buy them in the future. However both the shop guy and jibiking are full of nonsense about ABEC and also partly right. ABEC is a tolerance specification for how gaps inside the bearing and how much it can wobble when it spins. It has nothing to do with how easily a bearing spins. ABEC got used for skate bearings because companies were using Precision grade bearings which are garbage. ABEC 1 rated bearings were a vast improvement over the Precision grade. Bearing sellers then decided if 1 is good, larger numbers can be advertised as better. A few of the better bearing companies (Twin Cam, Zero Drag, Bones) have designs that are better for skating by not meeting the specifications of the ABEC ratings..
- Q: Is it possible to replace some from the oil pan? Please dont say i need a new engine etc. im only concerned about the bearings.
- Lucky for you your engine is transverse, meaning it's turned sideways. Removing the oil pan is real easy as is replacing the rod bearings. There might not be a pan gasket, just a bead of sealant, but a gasket is readily available. Have fun, although it's a bit messy.

- Bones Reds try and get ceramic bearings keep maintenance on them every month and don't worry about ABEC ratings cause it counts for nothing and you will have bearings for at least a year or two depending on where and how you skate.

- buying new bearings will be the best option. Giving it some oil would be a temporary fix, but later on you will find it does not help anymore. Get some new ones and you will be gliding ..
- Q: I took my Expedition to the dealer to check he alignment..... they told me they could not do that because the wheel bearings (all four) needed to be replaced. I took it to two other mechanics.... they said maybe only two needed to be replaced. I didn't ask these other mechanics about the alignment.
- You can not properly align a vehicle with loose wheel bearings because the wheels might not be in a perfectly true position if a bearing is loose so they are correct. And Ford does seem to have they're share of wheel bearing trouble but all 4 being bad might be stretching it a bit unless it has high mileage and you should have been noticing a growling noise if a bearing was bad.

- No. Oil doesn't clean, it just lubricates. Hair clipper oil will work for the lubrication part. It's usually just mineral oil. It evaporated faster than normal bearing oil, but it won't hurt anything. You will just have to lube the bearings more often. You need a solvent to clean bearings. Denatured alcohol is good, and so is carb cleaner.

- If okorder /... If you're talking about dismantling the actual bearing... Take off the shield with a needle or something, hit bearing multiple times until it breaks. Gather pieces.
