- Q: im making a bodyboard for a school project. im using polyethylene foam for the core. and polyethylene hard slick but i need something to use as a skin. im gonna probs use a paint, tho if someone could recomend a thin, heat bonding foam , that would be great as wellgt; anyone know what i can use as a skingt;? please. thank you soo much
- Well you'd do better to start with a polystyrene, polyester or polyurethane foam for one thing. They're a lot easier to shape and all of the other resins will bond to them. Polyethylene foam won't allow you to bond other resins or paints to the surface after you shape it. Polyethylene will also always remain flexible and won't hold it's shape while the other foams are much more rigid. I'd suggest starting with polystyrene because it's the cheapest and then coating it with a good epoxy resin and thousand cloth or a higher grade surfboard cloth if you can get your hands on it. - Q: Dressing warm is a no brainer and I know you should wear warm socks, a warm jacket, ext. My problem is that I don‘t own any snow pants and I will not be able to borrow any because I am fairly short. So, setting the option of snow pants aside, what should I wear to snowboard? - It depends on the fiber content of the cloth, and if you plan to wash the fabric. Fabric dye is best if you want to change the color of the entire piece. It works best on natural fibers like cotton, the color comes out lighter with synthetics (polyester, etc). Fabric dye does tend to fade a little if the item is washed repeatedly. Fabric paint works well for painting designs, if you do not mind the fabric being stiff where painted. It can crack when washed. My favorite for painting designs is using basic acrylic paint, mixed with textile medium (found beside acrylic paint in most craft stores). It absorbs into the cloth, is not hard like fabric paint, and resists cracking in the wash. Whatever you choose. follow the directions carefully. It makes all the difference. Have fun!
- Q: I was about to throw out a bunch of clothes when the idea just dawned on me that I could use them for the lining of my guinea pig cage. I plan to throw these clothes as liners each week when I clean the cage, so why not use them as a liner to my guinea pig cage? Of course I will be removing all metal and plastic pieces such as buttons and zippers. Offhand I do not think cotton t-shirts are a problem, but what about poly blend, polyester, denim. - Well, about your right it will depend on the city ordinances of where you live. You will need to check them. Also, if that is a subdivision with a home owner's association, they might have some restrictions that you might wanna check too. Just after checking all that you can answer any question about boundaries. If there is no restriction for what she wants to do, and if you have any concerns about it, go talk to someone encharge of the home owner's association (if there is one) or somebody from the city hall of your town responsible for the city of ordinances department. If that is just a brick wall to substitute the fence, I don't think any foundation would affect your property because the foundation they would need should be small and not deep, causing probably no impact. - You need special cleaning equipment for that lens. A lens pen or lens paper maybe. If the lens does not have a UV filter on it yet, it would also be a good idea to get one now.
