Q: I am changing an outside light with a inside wall switch there is 2 cables going to the outside box. ( 3 wires -white w/red line wire and black wire and green ground wire ) other cable 3 wires is white wire and black wire and green ground wire.On the inside switch is 3 wires white wire a black wire a green ground wire.for some reason it is not working, can any one tell me how to wire and or test for power. thank you: In a normal 120V system you will have Black(hot) White( neutral) Green or bare copper(ground). So the green wire are wired together with a pig tail to the ground on the switch (if grounded) the white wire, if neutral, should be wired together also and no connection to the switch. The black wire should be wired to the switch and the other black wire to the other side or pole of the switch. But I think you are wiring to an existing switch, meaning it controls another light already. In that case the three wires will be White(hot) Black(to the existing light) green or bare copper (ground). To find out check the switch wires white to ground If you get 120V on the white that means you do not have a neutral at the switch, or what is commonly called light wiring. With out a neutral the out side light will not work. So you have to pull wire to the switch to get a neutral. Good Luck.

Q: just need how u think it would be wired for like the whole circuite thingy: One wire has to be in a circuit that goes to the metal center of the bottom of the bulb and the other wire goes to the metal srew threaded part of the bulb. Then you cut one wire and put the switch in between the ends. The other loose ends of wires go to the battery.

Q: I bought a new ceiling light and wired it myself. But I cheated by just copying the wiring from the old bracket into the new one. I want to do the other ceiling lights in my home. Supplied with the lights I am using is a 3 - way bracket (sori if terminology is wrong). Anyway the old bracket I copied was 4 way. My lights are wired from the mains supply with 3 live wires, 3 neutrals, and 3 positives. The light unit only has one live/neutral/positive wire. What do I do with the extra mains supply wires? I hope I have made myself clear as I even I am confused. Many thanks.: One set of wires will be the mains feed the 2nd set will be the mains feed to the next light in the circuit and the 3rd set will be the switch wire. Copy like for like when changing them, taking care not to lose sight of the switch wire...

Q: I need to wire a single 120v outlet from the 240v volt wire I use on my compressor. Im installing a 120v electric automatic drain valve on my large shop air compressor. The compressor is wired up with SJ00W 10-AWG, 4-wire power cable (red,green,black white wires). and is rated at 240v @ 15-amp(compressor not wire). The drain valve uses a normal house hold current wiring config. (black,white and open copper)The 240v power supply is the only supply I have near by, (two of them actually) Or I would just wire the automatic valve off an outlet and call it a day. As soon as it is gone. It is gone. The bank can not protect you. I suggest using a credit card. I would pay the extra fees via pay-pal where you have some protection. If he is a fraud and you wire money, you are out the money unless you hire an attorney to help you get it back which will probably cost you more than the 8k. Q: i bought a programable thermostat that says it needs a c wire to be able to use the remote...i dont have one of these wires on my old thermastat but im kinda understanding the c wire was just to power a clock on certan thermostats is there a way to rig a c wire to power what i need???: the c wire is the common wire on your 24 volt control circuit.... wire used by some thermostats to power clocks or lights...... if you have extra wires in your thermostat wire cable it should be a blue wire and will hook up in your furnace to the blue wire or will be hooked to the c terminal on your thermostat wire connection board in your air handler...you can use any color wire in the cable that you are not using as long as you connect it up the way i just mentioned..
