- Q:I am wiring a sony xplod amp up in my car and need to know what the skinny blue wire goes to. Any help would be appreciated.
- Run a fused (1 amp, 14 AWG) wire from a fuse in the fuse panel that only has power when the car is ON to one side of a switch. From the other side of the switch run the same sized wire to the REM (remote) connection on the amp. This allows for full control and you never have to worry about forgetting to turn off the amp. The switch is so you can turn off the amp at will so as not to give grandma a heart attack in the car. You can find fuse taps and in-line fuse holders at any autoparts store.
- Q:I know there must be a difference, and reason why some wires have a solid strand behind the rubber, or some have several strands. can someone explain to me how it works and the differences in wire. m trying to get my head into electricity. resources would be good too.
- Stranded or solid are the same in so far as performance. The stranded is used where flexibility is needed. solid wire is prone to breaking when repeatedly flexed. Solid wire is a bit cheaper, and easier to work with where you need the wire to stay in a particular shape. .
- Q:ive heard multiple people talk about a 'final wire'. what is it exactly? Is it the thickest wire possible? Or is it when you havent gotten your wire changed in a while?
- The final wire is, as its name implies, the very last wire that will be used before your braces comes off. It is usually either a square or rectangular wire and braided. The wire is used to do the final tweaking on your teeth and to close any minor gaps you may still have. And YES, it is the thickest wire you will wear.
- Q:i need to know which wire is which in a 1999 dodge stratus for the cars stereo
- Here okorder /
- Q:Do wired controls work better than wireless? My hubby uses wireless and I wonder if wired would transmit quicker?
- it doesnt matter wired and wireless work just the same
- Q:i am trying to wire my aftermarket tailight, and it did not come with the plug in adapter as the original. The three wires coming out of it are glued together in a bell type casing. Pls Help!!
- The wire that is hooked to the tail light BODY is the ground wire. One wire goes to the brake light switch and the other one goes to the tail light hot wire. With a test light you can determine where each one is to be hooked to.
- Q:currently I have 2 12woofers wired to a single amp with 2 gauge wiring. Will it make a noticable difference if I upgrade the wiring to 0 gauge?
- Not.rly. if u have bigger wire yea it will have more power running thro it
- Q:I moved into a home with pre-wired speakers. There is a bundle of speaker wire coming out of the wall. Each wire has 4 colors of other wire coming out of it. There are a total of 7 main wires (with four wires each) and a total of 9 speakers.
- 4 conductor wire has a few neat uses. 1 is to bi-wire your speakers. Meaning that if the speaker has 2 red and 2 black terminals then remove the bridge and run the cables to the posts separately thus increasing surface conduction and increasing output and sound quality. Also if you are running cables in the wall to 2 speakers that are near each other or to a single stereo speaker then you don't have to run 2 separate 2-conductor wires. This would also be true if you are running to a second zone using an in wall volume control. If this is the only wire you have for a standard speaker connection it won't hurt to twist them together at both end (pos with pos/ neg with neg) and serves the same purpose as using thicker cables.
- Q:I am re wiring a hanging lamp. I know the black wire is the hot. My problem is this, the replacement wire is gold. There is no apparent groove in the wire, but one side does have writing on it. If I remember correctly the side with the writing is the hot?
- That will work. Both wires are the same, but one needs to be assigned as black AT BOTH ENDS. You could use the wire with the writing in it, or mark one wire with black magic marker, and carefully trace that same wire to the other end and mark it with black magic marker too. (But if there is no groove in the wire insulation, you probably won't be able to trace one wire from one end to the other. In that case, you'd need to use an electrician's continuity meter to find the same wire at the other end). The other two answerer's are correct that the bulb will light, BUT it will be unsafe if wired backwards. NAILBENDER's answer fails to recognize the safety hazard of wiring the hot to the wrong side of a light. You don't want the hot side to electrify the threaded sides of an electrical light bulb fixture! The hot needs to be on the bottom center of the bulb fixture. ROODOG1's answer also fails to recognize that someone could get shocked when screwing in (or out) a light bulb and touching the threaded side of the bulb which may be hot if wired wrong. DILLIGAF makes the same error, even though he says he's an electrician! Read a do-it-yourself electricians website; don't rely on these people's answers! Exception: If your lamp is plug-in that does not have one prong wider than the other, then it doesn't make a difference which wire is hot because the plug goes into the receptacle either way.
- Q:I got molds done a while back for my finishing wires on my braces. I'm getting them Tuesday, but I'm not really sure what the difference is between finishing wires and the wires I have now. So I'd be delighted if someone could explain:) Also, after you get finishing wires, about how much longer is it until you get your braces off? And, would you recommend the wire retainers, or the clear ones? Why? Thanks in advance!
- Finishing wires are for the final stage of braces. They are pretty strong wires that snap tightly into your brackets so the orthodontist can finely control the teeth and line everything up nicely. I can't say how long until you get your braces off...that's kind of a case by case basis. Typically the wire retainers are better than the clear ones from a hygiene perspective. They can also be adjusted unlike the plastic ones.
