Q: I am buying a home and would like to 'dress up' the back patio area, but don't want to spend a fortune on tile for outdoors...was thinking about staining the front porch and back patio...but I don't know what this would entail...any help? Q: In general which of these three cements creates rocks that are the most resistant to weathering?: Iron oxide cement will colour the rock a distinctive rusty yellow-brown as a result of the significant presence of the minerals haematite and limonite. Calcite cement will leave the rock white but is soft, easily scratched by an iron nail and will fizz with the application of dilute hydrochloric acid. Silica cement will leave the rock glassy colourless, glassy white or rarely, a different colour but also glassy, it will resist being scratched by an iron nail, and will not react with dilute hydrochloric acid. The rock with the silica cement will be most resistant to weathering, and will normally remain as a positive relief feature around the surrounding rocks. The cement in the calcite cemented rock will tend to become dissolved away. The iron oxide cemented rock will be fairly soft but will resist erosion better than the rock with the calcite cement.

Q: Is cement heavier when it's wet or when it's dry?Say, i have enough cement to make one cement block, would it be heavier when it's wet or when it dries into the block. Or would it weigh the same amount?(just wondering, sorry if the question seems kind of dumb): Cement is heavier when wet than dry as the weight of the water has to be taken into account as well as the cement. For example a cubic square foot of water weighs 10lbs. It is most likely that a dried block of cement may weigh slightly less than when wet as a small proportion of water will evaporate during the drying out process.

Q: I know the cement board is supposed to be cut 1/4 inch above the rub flange, but what if you install the cement board and there is a big enough gap between the tub and the wall that when installing tile, the tile still would not be even with the tub flange let alone go over the flange? After installing the cement board, there is still about a .5 inch gap from the wall to the tub. I assume you can install tile and then caulk along the small gap from the tub flange to the tile. But let me know your thoughts.: It won't look right doing it your way. You need to add another layer of cement board or take cement board off and fur framing out 1/2 . Watch out if this is on wall with tub faucets as your trim ring for valves may be out too far after you add 1/2. Do all sides so they match.

Q: how do we calculate how much we need and how is it done: To figure how much you need find the volume of the area you are filling, Length x width x height. If you are having a truck deliver it you will need to convert this to cubic yards as there is a minimum for delivery. As for how it is done it depends on if you are pouring a slab or a wall.

Q: Or, why does cement curl at all?: heat genorated from the saw blade and the fact that the blade is spinning in an upward rotation has something to do with it.

Q: is a backhand spring on the grass any differant than a backhand spring on cement? does it hurt? i realy want to do it on cement after i get it on the grass. any help?!: Cement, in my opinion, is harder. Because you don't have as much spring as you do on the grass. Also, you can always fall and hurt yourself twice as badly on the cement if something goes wrong.
