Q: (Warning: I have no knowledge of electrical equipment) I just bought a black light. It can fit into my lamp, but I noticed that the lamp had a label that read To reduce risk of fire, use a 60 watt type a lamp max. The bulb is 75 watts. Is it okay to use the bulb or should I not use it?
Don't use it. The bulb will get too hot for the lamp. The lamp must be rated the same or higher than the bulb.
Q: If one of the two metal things on a electrical cord is larger than the other, but the holes in the outlet are the same size so it won't fit, is it okay to force it in?
The holes on the outlet are never the same as dictated by code. You may not be able to detect the difference but they are different. The purpose for the blades to be the same size is to ensure that your connection is properly polarized.
Q: Hello All, I have an electrical equipment (face steamer) which was purchased in India (220 - 240V) and wanted to check, if I could connect this to an electrical outlet in US (producing 110V). Would this cause any damage to the equipment or the outlet ?
Yes, if the power it needs does not exceed what a 120V 15 or 20A circuit can provide, and you can get a transformer with adequate capacity to power the applaince.
Q: I understand that the frequencies emited from cell phones can interfere with the electrical equipment in ICU's; however, why can't patients have regular phones in ICU's; regular chord phones shouldn't emit frequencies or do they?
My mom was just in cardiac ICU and they did let people use cell phones as long as they were on vibrate. It was annoying though, so many people chattering away when there were some very sick people in there trying to recover from surgery. Hospitals are noisy enough and it was hard as it was for my mom to sleep. I took my phone calls out to the hall. My mom could call out if she wanted by asking the nurse and we could call into the nurse but not call in directly. That was best so my mom could get some rest. Phones aren't apporpriate everywhere.
Q: 20 ft. off the ground, miles of steel rail supporting it, thousand's of gallons of diesel, electrical equipment all around.
Safe. You are surrounded by metal which forms a pretty good Faraday cage. The loco is well grounded via the rails. Apart from the bang of thunder you might not even notice the lightning. The Diesel fuel is in a steel container under the loco and even better shielded than you are.
Q: i dont understand this, every surge protector claims to protect phone lines from surges but why?
Because DLS and phone lines operate on voltages and currents and are susceptible to lags/spikes. GL
Q: A company specializes in manufacturing electrical equipment. Recently, several long-time customers have complained about the quality of the equipment. It seems there are several damaged goods. The defective equipment should have been caught when the boxes were packed. The manager is wondering which of the three packers is not doing the job properly. Clerk 1 packs 40% of the boxes and usually has a 2% defective rate. Clerk 2 packs 30% with a 2.5% defective rate. Clerk 3 boxes 30% of the boxes and her defective rate is 1.5%. Which clerk is most likely responsible for the boxes that raised the complaints?
clerk 1; 0.4(0.020) 0.0080 clerk 2; 0.3(0.025) 0.0075 clerk 3; 0.3(0.015) 0.0045 answer: clerk 1
Q: Actually in position, we have provided shade for an electrical equipment but sun is hitting during morning and evening. Can it be called as a shaded area?
Outside ambient temperatures are always measured in the shade away from direct sunlight. If your equipment is seeing direct sunlight in normally convective air, then you should use an infared remote sensing thermometer to measure different points on the outside and the inside of the equipment (if possible) to determine the ambient temperature (when exposed to direct sunlight). Alternately, you could place a thermistor, thermocouple, RTD, or semiconductor temperature sensor inside the equipment (always in the shade) and run wire leads outside the equipment container, then measure ambient temperature inside the equipment with a meter on the outside. .
