Q: Can you actually save a decent amount of money by unplugging things like cable boxes, microwaves, etc.?I've taken to shutting things down when I leave for work, but there's really no way I'll be able to determine how much I'll save. If it's not significant enough I'd rather not bother - waiting for the cable to reboot is a pain!We have two cable boxes with associated TVs and DVDs that get shut down along with our clean air machines. Is it worth it?
Yes you can!!!!!!!!!!! Walk through your house at night at see all those lights on the tv, dvd player, vcr, phone charger, cable box, ect. They all eat your money!
Q: i have a situation with my computer i don't know what it is but i have done a lot of test so please help me identifying this and how to solve it My build: CPU: i7 5820k MOBO: x99 g1 gaming 5pPSU: seasonic m12 750wGFX: g1 gaming gtx 980 ti
So what is the safety issue here? Lacking some details as to what the problem is.

Q: I have to declare a major soon, I am in the general engineering program at my school. And I am stuck between chemical and electrical. I love math, physics and chemistry, and have come trhough computer programming unharmed. I intend on going to graduate school when I am finished my bachelors, and in my career I want to be involved in research and development. basically, I would like to work in a lab/ at a desk and design and test new equipment, products etc. Also, I am NOT a hands-on, put on an over-all and crawl around in a factory type of person. What major do you think could best help me further my ambitions? Also, if I pick one, say chemical engineering, would it be easiy to get into grad school in another engineering discipline, such as electrical engineering?4 seconds ago - 3 days left to answer. Report It
Chemical engineering tends to be VERY transferable to other disciplines, at least in my experience and where I've seen friends of mine end up. I'm not sure how well it connects to electrical as I've never thought about going that route myself. . . but there actually is a fair amount of math in ChE if actually are looking for it. Neither EE or ChE are usually regarded as very easy among engineering disciplines, so you're in for a challenge either way. I got out of ChE for grad school because I didn't like the whole factory/refinery idea so much. . . and environmental engineering was more than happy to take me.
Q: i would like to know more about the functions of this room. What is the role of this room in electrical distribution in a building? What i know,an electrical components need to get through this room such as for lighting+ac, power socket, and essential power.
A riser room is where the electrical distribution equipment ( Switchgears and Panels) that supplies the electrical systems of the building is located. Electrical conduits that feed the various equipment, A/C units and sub panels and fire pumps originate here.
Q: I m trying to repair some vintage audio equipment, and I notice these tissue like strips that hold the cables together, without being rolled on. What are those properly called, and do they come in rolls?
Old-style electrical tape was impregnated cloth and not plastic as it is now. There is some still around, it comes in rolls.
Q: Hi, I have an interview for an electrical engineering position with my city water district. I have a power and drives background but I am pretty sure that they are not a utility company. What exactly do electrical engineers do at the water cleaning districts? I appreciate anything response I can get. Thanks in advance.
The water district is a public utility. If they did not need someone with your skills, they would not have asked you for an interview. They use a lot of pumps, motors, and other electrical equipment. good luck with your interview.
Q: i am instrument electrical eng.student and i am about to take 2 of the 4 subject for electives, here the subject:1)process control2)automation and robotic3)measurement and instrumentation4)control system 3i am thinking to involve in maintainance, oil and gas or maybe aircraft maintainance.after grad.what is the subject is suitable and what is the subject advantage and disadvantage. i want get some advice before make the decision.tq
Well. it is very good major Oil and Gas companies need ur major since the instrumentation is controlling the whole units. Huge Essential System and very critical in any refinery such as: DCS : Digital Control Center. ESD: Emergency Shutdown. UPS: Uninterrupted Power Supply ( Electrical Equipment feeds instrument load) I think u have a bright future with this discipline if you have interests . And regarding these Subjects, i dont know much about control All the best
Q: I am looking to control a electrical outlet 120V over my network, Is their a piece of equipment that can do this?
You should look for electric regulator. and pick up the one of your choice.
Q: I have to declare a major in my schools engineering program at the end of this semester, and I was wondering what type of working enviroments I would probably be in with either major and a bachelors/masters degree? What are the jobs like in each major? Desk/factory/lab etc? I know there are lots of options in each program, but what are most of the jobs in each respective industry like? Thanks!
There are more USA jobs in electrical engineering than chemical engineers (see the source below) which may explain why I don't see that many chemical engineers. The few people I know who where chemist or chemical engineer moved into others fields. The one exception was a friend in college that I loss touch. Last I heard he working in production. All the EE that I know work in desk or lab work with occasional developmental testing of equipment in the field.
