- Q: I just recently moved into a new house and the main room is laid out weird and the only place for the TV is above the fireplace. There is a small room in the corner that the previous owners used as a small office and I would like to stick all of my equipment (AV receiver, dvd player, cable box, etc.) in there so they will be out of view. Is there a way I could do this and still use the remote from the couch and not have to do everything manually?
- there are kits in the market today that can convert infrared signals into electrical signals then back to infrared where the av equipment is. this can be done wirelessly (RF) or wired. the kits are called infrared repeaters. they have many components. a sensor reads signal. a main control unit distributes signals(wirelessly to another control unit or wired to the flashers), then infrared flashers or emitters shoot the infrared beam at each component. click on the site below for more details. an alternative is to get a universal RF remote which doesnt require a line of sight to work. the remote sends signals to a contol unit where the signals are distributed to infrared flashers on the components to be controlled. this way, no wiring through the walls needs to be done. that can also be possible by using RF to transport signals from sensor to flasher (mentioned in above paragraph) if u prefer a cheaper infrared remote.
- Q: I have had a problem for the last 15 years or so where I seem to interfere with electrical equipment. For example, I can't wear watches, I burn out tradition incandescent light bulbs like most people change their drawers, I get all kind of feed back from the intercom system in the hospital where I work (in the form of staticthe speakers actually go off as I walk down the hall.it's kind of a joke to my co-workers - some of who have decided I'm possessed - LOL), computers freeze up on me frequently and I completely fried our last home pc.any others out there with similar problems. I assume it has something to do with electromagnetic fields.but not positive about thatany ideas?
- Whoa so you have that problem too huh? lmao Mine is just static electricity but lololol that is so cute. :o) A few months ago I had static electricity ALL over me I was shocking people and myself when I touched stuff, even wood. All my clothes were sticking to me constantly and I use 4 dryer sheets in each load of clothes So I don't know either. Try rubbing your hands together before you touch stuff or get near things like that. lol sorry, just a suggestion.
- Q: I want to open a electrical contracting business down in Brisbane or Sydney after i have done my apprenticeship and had a thew years of experience I'm 16(Australia).Possibly even higher a thew lecky and also sell stuff like inverters etc. electrical equipment. The business would service the commercial side more then the domestic side.would this be a viable business or not.and would it be possible to make any money out of this to look after my family and look after my own family. Perhaps a couple hundred thousand a yearor would it be better to just go to the mines By the way i do study business organization and management plus economics so i have a general idea of what would be required like a very detailed business plan etc.

- Q: i would like to know more about the functions of this room. What is the role of this room in electrical distribution in a building? What i know,an electrical components need to get through this room such as for lighting+ac, power socket, and essential power.
- A riser room is where the electrical distribution equipment ( Switchgears and Panels) that supplies the electrical systems of the building is located. Electrical conduits that feed the various equipment, A/C units and sub panels and fire pumps originate here.
- Q: I just got a cpu cooling system (fan/heat sinc) the fan stopped working, ive blown it out and it still will not work. I dont feel the need to replace a brand new fan. Any ideas as to what went wrong with it?
- Since it's a brand new fan, that's all the more reason to look into replacing it. See what kind of warranty you've got with it, or just take it back. For all we know, it could have been a dud straight from the factory.
- Q: Hi everyone!I'm currently enrolled in an electrical engineering course and I like it a lot, I just don't like the computer aspect. I actually really hate computers. I'm more of the other spectrum like the hands-on mechanical side. However i don't purely want to do mechanical engineering cause i do like electronics. is there a meeting point? should i major in electrical and minor in mechanical? or major in mechanical and minor in electrical?to make things worse i've always had an interest in biomedical enigineering but the biomechanics track. I'm not enrolled in that because i heard that its hard to find jobs in that field since it's still developing.opinions? advice? anything is appreciated:)thanks!
- Biomedical engineering to make artificial organ has a very bright future. This is the only field that we need to break through to extend human life and replacing body parts. Go for it if I were you.
- Q: i dont understand this, every surge protector claims to protect phone lines from surges but why?
- Two weeks ago we had a heavy duty thunder storm. it went through the Phone Line this is what got fried, Telephone, DSL modem. Router, Ethernet card in desktop computer, PS3 So I guess it went through phone then modem then Ethernet card, to router that was wired to the PS3. This is why you want to protect your phone lines if you have DSL. I learned a very expensive lesson. I now have my phone/DSL line surge protected.
- Q: I have a hanging, pull-string electrical light in my attic. This is very standard stuff. I would like to purchase an electrical device that will screw into the electric light and give me an electrical outlet. Think of this as a device with the base of an electric light bulb and an electical outlet instead of the bulb. I thought I saw one in a hardware store 20 years ago, but I have no idea if this product still exists. I can not think of what it would be called with a technical name when searching for one on the Internet. My business application is to be able to plug equipment into my attic rather than running the cord into the main house.

- Q: for example, a 3ds?
- There is a video on youtube of how to take apart a 3ds. This might make you void your warranty.
- Q: I have to declare a major in my schools engineering program at the end of this semester, and I was wondering what type of working enviroments I would probably be in with either major and a bachelors/masters degree? What are the jobs like in each major? Desk/factory/lab etc? I know there are lots of options in each program, but what are most of the jobs in each respective industry like? Thanks!
- There are more USA jobs in electrical engineering than chemical engineers (see the source below) which may explain why I don't see that many chemical engineers. The few people I know who where chemist or chemical engineer moved into others fields. The one exception was a friend in college that I loss touch. Last I heard he working in production. All the EE that I know work in desk or lab work with occasional developmental testing of equipment in the field.
