Q: and how does its work?
It will basically provide safety protection from electrical shock. Occassional large electrical equipment may become temporarily energized --- maybe a down power line, or by accident. By grounding the equipment, the earth that you are standing on, and the equipment will always be at the same voltage. Therefore, even if the equipment becomes energized at 25000 Volts, the ground you are standing on will be at 25000 volts as well. So there is no potential difference and therefore, no electrical shock. Without the earth connection --- there would be a 25000 Volt potential difference, and you would suffer severe electrical shock, or even death. Excerpt from Wikipedia: Ground or earth in a mains (AC power) electrical wiring system is a conductor that provides a low impedance path to the earth to prevent hazardous voltages from appearing on equipment (the terms ground (North American practice) and earth (most other English-speaking countries) are used synonymously here). Normally a grounding conductor does not carry current. Neutral is a circuit conductor (that carries current in normal operation), which is connected to earth (or ground) generally at the service panel with the main disconnecting switch or breaker.
Q: I have worked there as an electrical engineer but in design for a consultant. I would like to know what are the major things to account for (DB's, wires and cables, ducts, conduits.) and how to estimate them for a typical 6000sq.ft 2 floor villa
If you have the design drawings, you simply have to make a material take-off list. The main drawings are: General Layout Grounding Layout Electrical Equipment Layout / Schematic Riser Diagram (Fire Alarm) Lighting Layout At the very least, you need to have the General Layout drawings (to know how many rooms you've got) and you need to know the electrical levels since some houses might require 380/480 3-phase for elevators and large electrical equipment. Working room by room, you will estimate cable and conduit lengths, the number and specifications of the DBs, number of lights, outlets, switches, buzzers, intercoms, smoke detectors.
Q: Hi i'm 13 years old and i'm always getting tired. for example every day i come home from school i go straight to sleep and i don't know why . This dident always happen till i got to 6th grade. And when i'm at my friends i get so tired and want to go to sleep but i don't know why either ? Please help me and tell me hy im getting so tired and sleepy now and days ?
Do you have fluorescent lighting in your classrooms? Are you surrounded by a lot of electrical equipment a lot of the time. What is your diet like? Do you wear much synthetic clothing. Do you use chemicals on your natural body like lotions, face cream etc. Do you get out in the fresh air and sunshine. Are you drinking enough good quality natural spring water? Fluorescent lighting was NEVER meant to be used on a full time basis like they are used today. And yes they are known to make one very, very sleepy. If you are constantly surrounded by electrical equipment, and that means ANY electricals from the television, radio, to laptops, iphones, etc some of todays music can also be very draining of your energy. I do believe your body is getting ready for menstruation. So a healthier diet of certified organic fresh fruitsveges meat is in order for now until we all die. Junk/processed and fast foods are dead and contain practically no nutrition whatsoever. I will leave you with this 'When diet is WRONG, medicine is of no use. When diet is CORRECT, medicine is of no need.' An Ancient Auyverdic Proverb
Q: I see a a lot of ghost hunting shows where they use something called k2 or kII meters. What are these originally used for?
K2 is a brand name for a type of electromagnetic field detector used for measuring fields induced by power lines and electrical equipment.
Q: And what does electrical engineer teach in college? Is it good for girls?
Sometimes electrical engineering does involve computer science, but it depends on the school and the area of concentration. Electrical Engineers often do PLC programming for robotics and equipment. Both electrical engineers and computer engineers may work on developing circuit boards or computers. I know a few girls that studied electrical engineering. One of them got a job as a systems engineer for the SI organization, a large company owned by Lockheed Martin. Engineering is a growing field for women. With gender equality slowly getting better, more girls are gaining confidence in going for manly majors. There is almost no hands on work in engineering. You are not expected to know how to fix things. An engineer is a problem solver. The responsibilities of all engineers are the same regardless of job position or major. Their responsibilities are to invent, create, design, develop, improve, maintain, control, and sustain the following: -Products -Processes -Systems
Q: If I decide to choose electrical engineering as my college major what would I be doing on a regular basis for my job?
Electrical engineering is generally deals with the study of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism.Electrical engineers work in a very wide range of industries and the skills required are likewise variable. These range from basic circuit theory to the management skills required of project manager. The tools and equipment that an individual engineer may need are similarly variable, ranging from a simple voltmeter to a top end analyzer to sophisticated design and manufacturing software.
Q: I'm currently doing a 3 year advanced diploma for electronics engineering program. However, I don't feel it could really lead to much possibilities. What do people think? Are there any electronics engineers here in the room?? If so, what challenges do you face??
It's pretty booming right now, and probably will be for the next couple of decades at least. As far as possibilities go, what are you looking for? Some EE's start their own companies and make millions. It's as much as what you make of things as it is about hopping on the right train to take you where you want to go. The downside of engineering has to be the pressure and the deadlines. Marketing and money drive engineering. And the market doesn't want to wait forever for the next gismo. Your design has to be finished by a certain time or else the whole bridge project gets held up, etc.
Q: A company specializes in manufacturing electrical equipment. Recently, several long-time customers have complained about the quality of the equipment. It seems there are several damaged goods. The defective equipment should have been caught when the boxes were packed. The manager is wondering which of the three packers is not doing the job properly. Clerk 1 packs 40% of the boxes and usually has a 2% defective rate. Clerk 2 packs 30% with a 2.5% defective rate. Clerk 3 boxes 30% of the boxes and her defective rate is 1.5%. Which clerk is most likely responsible for the boxes that raised the complaints?
clerk 1; 0.4(0.020) 0.0080 clerk 2; 0.3(0.025) 0.0075 clerk 3; 0.3(0.015) 0.0045 answer: clerk 1
Q: How can I ensure my computer is properly backed up and the back-up files are unaffected by the sun? Would putting everything on CDs and DVDs work? Which would be better; an external hard disk drive or an external optical hard drive or jusr DVDs/CDs?

Q: I don't know a lot about electricity, but I know that on earth we ground our outlets, computers, etc. Do they have a means of grounding electricity in space? Are electrical systems more dangerous on spacecraft?
In electrical engineering, earthing or grounding means literally to make an electrical connection between the ground and a metal part. In practice this is usually done by connecting to the ground pin of an electrical socket, which is itself connected to ground. In permanent installations it can also be done by wiring to a piece of grounded metal, most often a water pipe. The main reason for doing this is safety. If a live wire touches a metal part such as the casing of a washing machine, it will become live or hot. If you were to touch it you would get an electric shock. By grounding the metal part, if a live wire touches it the current will flow through the metal part to the ground. This will usually cause a fuse to blow or a circuit breaker to trip, thereby isolating the supply and protecting the user. Despite what a previous answerer said, the ground is not part of the circuit of the electrical supply to your house. A separate conductor, the neutral, serves that purpose. Current only flows into the ground during a fault condition like the one I described above. In electronics, the term ground is often used to mean a part of the circuit which has zero volts on it, and may be used as a return path for electric currents in the circuit and/or a screen against electromagnetic interference. For instance, an electronic engineer may say that a part of the circuit is at 5 volts above ground.
