Q: 14. Three parallel wires carry currents, with magnitudes and in the directions shown in the figure below. The wires all lie in a plane, and are all 2 m long, with separations between them as shown in the figure. What is the total force on wire #3 due to wire #1 and wire #2? Wire 1 : 6A, 2.5 m from Wire 3 ---------------------gt;Wire 2: 3A, 1.0 m from Wire 3 lt;--------------------Wire 3: 3A ---------------------gt;Can't figure it out, any hints/suggestions?
force between two current carrying wires per unit length = 10^-7*2i_1*i_2/a if current is in same direction force is attractive else repulsive.. now you use this and solve yourself.. as it is not clear from the data you provided.. whether the wire 3 is in middle or left end or right end.. but i have told you the concept.. i hope this helps.. if u need more help provide me with the image
Q: OK - I removed my old light switch and can see that there are only 2 wires coming out of the wall to be found - 1 white and 1 black. There are absolutely no other wires that I can see back there. The dimmer switch has 2 black wires and 1 green. I'm really not sure what to do. I tried to connect the 2 black ones to the black one and the green wire to the white wire. I admit this wasn't the smartest thing, but thought I'd try. Got nothing. Any help is super appreciated.
If the 2 wires you refer to ( 1 black 1 white) were connected to the switch you took out , then attach 1 black wire from the dimmer to the black wire in the box and 1 black wire from the dimmer to the white wire in the box. The green wire is always ground and should be attached to either the metal box or if it is a plastic box to the bare wires in the box. If you just have those 2 wires in the electrical box it is known as a switch loop. If it is wired properly the power is coming in on the white wire. and when it is switched to the black wire it sends power to your light. Make your connections using wire nuts. No tape is necessary when it is done correctly. Tape is only used to insulate. Good luck.
Q: Replaced the old fan in my bathroom (about 10 years old) with a new fan. Trouble is this. The fan and light each work on a seperate bathroom switch. I have two spots to install the wire on the new bathroom fan/light. One for the fan and one for the ligth. However, the wiring has one white, one black, one red and the ground. Anyone know what the red is? Can I just cap it off? According the bathroom fan wiring it says something about connecting red to blue. I am slighty confused. I think it was originally only wired between the white and black. I am not sure if I have to get some extra wire and connect the black and red to the light and the white to the fan? Extra wire is confusing.
The wiring for the original installation had the white wire for a common neutral, and one of the red or black wires for the fan and the other for the light. If your new fixture does not have both a fan and a light, simply use either the red or black, and put a wirenut on the unused wire; you will then have one wall switch that does nothing. If it DOES have both, then one non-white wire goes to the fan, the other to the light, and the white wire goes to both.
Q: But I want to switch it and wire the red ceiling wire to the black fan wire and the black ceiling wire to the black/white fan wire so that the particular switches work the way I want them to. Is this ok, to switch them?
Black wire on the fan is for the fan motor, red wire in the fan is for the light, the white wire is the neutral wire. So if you do want to switch the light off and on you have to tie red wire to the switch and the black wire can be tied to the hot at the ceiling box so you can control the fan with the chain only. If you have one switch leg in your circuit then you cannot do anything but switch them both if you tie them together. I think I am understanding what you are saying here. White Alyse ties to white Black is for the fan motor and the red is for the light. If you have three wires in the switch then you can tie them the same way color to color. Hope this has not confused you You can email me if you need further help
Q: Kind of a confusing question I guess. I want to cut a wire that contains 3 other wires and splice into them then reconnect them. is all I need relatively the same gauge wire or is it potentially different type like some sort of special speaker wire..? Should be one positive one negative and the other some sort of signal for sound. (Microphone to a speaker). All I need is standard copper wire?
Hello Rocky: You need to be more specific. What are you attempting to do? I know you want to splice a three-ply wire, but what is your end purpose?
Q: For my braces, the top wire where my two front teeth are, I can push the wire and it sort of bend. I don't know if this is normal or not. Can someone tell me?
Mine did that too when I had braces. No worries:)
Q: i need to make a battery powered light bulb and i have copper wire at home...will it work?
Copper wire is rather orange in color. If it is insulated it will be surrounded by a coating of plastic for its entire length. If you cut it and then look at its end the copper wire should be in the middle with the insulation around it like a doughnut. Insulation can be of any color and is not always plastic. The copper wire itself can be either solid and made up of a single strand, or stranded and thus composed of numerous much smaller diameter strands. Stranded wire is more flexible and is the type used commonly for lamps, but sold copper wire, although stiffer, will work as well.
Q: thin wire to make fishing tackle that sharks cannot bite
Buy in store. Help if know what talking about.
Q: I would like to know how to wire my West Marine VHF Radio.Coming out the back of the radio is a red wire, a white wire, and two black wires. The white wire and one of the black wires are a thinner gauge then the other black and red wires. Any solutions out there? Thanks
I would say the red wire is your power 12 V + side, The bigger black one would be you ground or - side , and the remaining two wires are for the speeker
Q: Us the French wire hook earrings gold? 14kt gold?!?
French wire earrings are a style of earrings for pierced ears. They have a long hook shape. They can come in gold or silver or any metal. The style isn't an indication of its metal content. If they are 14k gold, they will need to be stamped as such and you should buy them from a reputable jeweller. Online buying can be a problem, they are people who fake the gold markings (especially goods from Asian countries) and you might think you are getting real gold, but you aren't. Also, sometimes only the wire hook part is gold, the attachment or dangle might be an alloy metal and not gold at all.
