Q:I want to tile all around the bathtub alcove in a bathtub/shower. The previous people only put a small section of cement board, about 2' or less high right behind the tub faucet area. They put regular wallboard in the rest of the alcove, and the same behind the vanity area. Should I put cement board as wallboard in the entire alcove area, or only on the wall that contains the tub/shower faucets, or what it the most appropriate? Should I put green board behind the vanity area? Thanks!
The best method is to put cement board in the entire tub surround, not just in the faucet area. Steam from showering can cause damage to drywall if there are any cracks in the tile or grout. You can use green (moisture resistant) drywall or blue (moisture and mold resistant-preferred) drywall in the rest of the bathroom. Make sure the gaps between the cement board panels are sealed with modified thinset. You can do this just before you tile.
Q:The liner I use usually breaks within months and is very costly. My concern is how do I do the walls for the pond using cement without having to seperate the walls from the bottom of the pond. I have the hole in the ground whats my next step...
lol I've seen this question on many different sites and every one gives the same answer. And I always disagree with there answers, Rubber liners no matter how good they claim to be suck. And cement isnt harmful to your fish. Cement just gives it a higher PH and most fish will adapt. If your worried about that, they sell special sealers for ponds. Cement is the best way to go though if you want something permanet and lasts longer. You want to have some help, it only works if you can pour the concrete all at the same time so you get one solid piece. Make it atleast 4 inches thick. Be sure to put chicken wire or something to make it strong. Pour the bottom first, when your done smoothing that out, work your way up. make sure the cement isnt too wet so you can get it to stick on the way up. the more of a slope you have the easier it will be to form the walls. The next day when the concrete is starting to cure, wet it, this will help it cure. Keep wetting daily. It should cure in about 2 weeks to a month depending on the temperature outside. dont fill it with water until it is fully cured. If you want you can seal it to prevent the cement from changing the ph in your pond, Sherman williams sells a sealer for potable water tanks, thats what you will need to seal it with. If it ever cracks, you can seal the cracks with a caulk made for aqariums, usually sold at aquarium stores. Good look, and dont be scared of all the hard work, it really pays off. I hate having to change rubber liners all the time just cuz of roots messing them up, or the sun making them brittle. And those sub-liners dont make much of a difference.
Q:How is cement used to make concrete? What are the principle types of concrete and how are they made?
Shouldn't you be asking this question in (homework help)
Q:Here in the US they use sheet rock and the houses are so flimsy, but in DR they build them so strong and it's 100% cement. Why is that?
Most Caribbean Island houses are built of cement an building blocks with steel, I don't know why may be it is tradition.
Q:I've tried to make the cement (on Whuddle World) and it always says that i'm unable to make it.WHY!?!
to mix a cement, u need this : 1 bag full of cement a bottle of water ( u need oil to pump water. for oil, just go to gadget n gizmos, enter the 1st lab, click oil can near pink tube) sand ( get it free at playground (NE ww) bucket ( talk to farmer noggin, then search it by clicking around a pile of hay in farmer barn.. keep clicking till you find it) a trowel ( go to hickory hardware n woodworks, click a garden spade which is hanging on the wall. just keep clicking around it till u'll receive msg that wud kraft let u borrowed his trowel) now only u can mix it by clicking ur bucket in ur omnimbus. click use bucket and u now can start mixing it by dragging the items in correct order. 1. bucket, 2. cement. 3. water. 4. sand now u just mix the cement and make sure u carry the it. go to charlie fountain and click the statue. n dont forget to talk to chelsea to receive your awards.. hope this help all whuddles.. cheer up!!!
Q:This isn't for me, my bf is redoing his new house and he got cement on his hands, but didnt wash it off in time. it's been a couple hours right now, and he tried soap and water (like that'd work lol) and oil. I suggested a nail file to get it to flake off, but he doesnt have one.would that work?please tell me if there's anything that'd work. some sort of solution or a file or something? or will he have to go to the doctor and like, get it peeled off or something? lol
Yikes! Your boyfriend needs to go see a doctor for this. The cement on his skin can cause a chemical burn, and he needs to get it off. It's important that he go now, even if the only place open at this hour is the Emergency Room. If at all possible, he should bring the package that the cement was in so the doctors can see for sure what they're dealing with. Also, if your bf has access to the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS for short) for the cement, he should bring that to the hospital too. Actually, the MSDS would probably be the more useful thing to bring if that's all he has access to. He might insist that it's no big deal and that his hands will be fine. Guys like to act tough like that. Ignore him and drag him to the hospital if you have to. ;)
Q:we have many cement silos in the factory and i am facing a problem in one of them filled with 100 ton of cement, one of the filter elements came out from the filter body and clogged the cement silo opening, is there any idea how to remove the filter element from the opening without loosing the cement
Maybe you could get a claw on a pole manufactured and feed it down through the cement and extract it from top.
Q:Are there any paper cement that has no harmful odors ?Are odors or vapors from paper cement considered harmful ?
It is not harmful if you do not use it 24/7. It has been on the market for years and years. If it were harmful, it would have been pulled from the shelf a long time ago. Read labels and use good judgement when shopping for, and using glue products.
Q:I want to re-do the tile that surrounds my tub walls because the old tile has water damage and rotted. I was wondering which type of tile cement backer board is better ? hardiebacker cement board or durock cement board ? and should I install a vapor barrier between the studs and backer board... I seem to get mixed opinions on that ?
Oh, installing a vapor barrier behind the cement board is absolutely necessary. Tile with grout isn't waterproof at all, and you want to keep that moisture out of the wall. Some people even go beyond asphalt paper and insist on using a nail-hole sealing material like bituthane because they are that concerned about the moisture making its way through. Durock is better for walls that will be under constant barrage from water like a shower because it acts more like the troweled-on mortar a professional tile guy would use. Being more purely cement, it will be less likely to expand and contract than the hardi-backer, which contains more fiber.
Q:We have been building an outdoor kitchen and subsequently purchased many different types of concrete products. I have noticed the cement, mortar, and grout are very similar products. What is the fundamental difference between these products (besides price and location)?
The primary differences are texture (grit content), and activator (the chemical used to harden the product). Also, there are boding properties associated with mortar and grout that standard concrete does not posses, mortar being the strongest (used for affixing tile to a subfloor or wall).
Reinforced,It is a real alkali resistent glassfibre enterprise of largest scale, most advanced technology and highest outupt in China.
