Q:I need to mix 25 pounds of cement for a garden project ( a large stepping stone). In the past I have found it really difficult and physically tough to get the cement mixed relatively quickly to get the cement poured in the mold. I am mixing in a mop bucket. Does anyone have any suggestions to make this project easier?
I usually find for small castings it works ok to start with water in the bucket, then add half a bag of concrete until it is thick enough. It's easier to add more mix to harden than more water too soften. How much water? The worry is you will add too much water to start with and not have enough dry mix to get a thick enough mix. Start by setting aside the max allowable amount of water. The instructions from quickrete say to start with 3 pints for a 40 lb bag, then add up to 1.5 more pints if unworkable. There is a chart for other bag sizes in the first link below. So if you start with 2.5 pints of water in the bucket and 2 pints of water set aside for contingency, then add the dry premix until happy it should be right around 25 lbs. But don't worry about being in a big hurry, the bag says one hour working time.
Q:And if so, can it be used instead of poly cement, or are they used to glue different different things?
Liquid poly is very liquid, it's useful for brushing onto large, flat surfaces or for very, very tiny parts, but generally normal poly cement is the thing to use. Never squeeze the tube! If you have to squeeze it means the nozzle is blocked; unblock the nozzle with a pin and hold the tube downward with the the the tiniest amount of pressure until the glue starts to flow. If you squeeze, there will be a 1 minute delay but then it'll come pouring out. Don't use poly cement unless you are sure you want a permanent weld; if you want a bond that can be broken apart (useful when you notice an error) use superglue or a hybrid epoxy. I use Zap-A-Gap quite a lot.
Q:Ferro-cement was the quot;inquot; material to make a boat hull from, and my father was quite taken with the idea behind it. Time and my father have passed, and I am wondering if it is still a viable building material. thank you for your responses.
If made by a professional, the concrete hull has lots of advantages over its FRP cousin. The concrete gets harder as time goes on. The first one made in the 1860's is still afloat. Cement does not blister or delaminate. The weight can be a read advantage when sailing in choppy seas as it will plow through waves that will stop a lighter vessel. If one should encounter a situation that would hole a FRP vessel, the ferro will cave in like an eggshell. Kick it back in shape, slap some fresh cement on it and off you go. Down side is dealing with marinas. They think that you will come flying into your slip and destroy the dock. As long as you are aware of your extra weight and adjust your maneuvers there should be no problems.
Q:I'd like to use plastic cement as a mortar (typical lime-free brick and stone mortar) to secure rocks in my new pond. The pond quot;shellquot; is 4 to 6 inch reinforced concrete with a fish safe epoxy sealant. The rocks would line the wall of the pond shell.
White Portland cement is lower alkalinity than regular Portland. You can get it at most brickyard and stucco suppliers. Plastic cement may have a different expansion/contraction coefficient from concrete and mortar. It is very likely to pop off as temperatures change in the pond if that coefficient is too different.
Q:Cement. We all use it! Look out at your neighbourhood... Cement fences, pathways, houses!!! What is your opinion on another cement plant being built?
Actually the need for any commercial establishment is based on the Demand. Demand depends on our consumption. consumption are usually self-required or market-forces-driven If you feel that you require a material, use it, do not get swayed by the market forces. SIMPLICITY would solve most of our problems. hope I am not preaching
Q:How to identify the quality of cement rods produced by China's tower network?
"smell", where the "smell" is "listening" means, Cement ingredients, and thus infer the quality of cement poles, at present, some small domestic cement plant for low-cost sales, violation of cement standards, excessive use of cement mixed materials, not strictly in accordance with the standard ratio of raw materials, product performance Can be imagined, the regular manufacturers of cement raw materials listed on the listing of the rigorous, the production of cement with a condensing time is moderate, durable Good features 3
Q:I realize it is possible but the only formula I found had gasoline. Are there any other formulas?
A rubber cement is a mixture of an adhesive and a solvent. The solvent evaporates and leaves behind the adhesive. The most common solvents are n-hexane and n-heptane. You may be able to find the solvents at a larger paint store, especially one that deals with commercial products as opposed to normal consumer products.
Q:My fiance and I recently purchased our first home. It's a fixer upper. We are starting with the front yard which due to previous owners negligence is a disgrace. The patio had two giant cracks in the cement which I patched up. The next day the cement was cracked again right where I patched it up. What happened and how do I fix it?
they didnt get a good base under it would be my guess. so when the ground moves the slab moves. best bet...tear it out and have it done right. 4 in. base of crushed stone and a 4 in. slab. tell them you want a 3500 lb. mix, with air added and fiber added. make sure it is jointed correctly. you dont need a footer under a patio unless it is raised up, and then we call that a porch...
Q:Im screwing masonite to sheetrock then going over the masonite with a sheet of 4x8 laminate. This is on a wall. I want an adhesive that will give me at least 30sec to get it set right and square. But i dont want an adhesive I have to have constant pressure on for an hour either. Someone told me linoleum adhesive ? I do not want to use contact cement im a newby and need the workability time to get it on right.
Contact cement is the way to go. Use wood strips to hold the laminate off the wall until ready to attach. Then just working down, remove the spacers. NO pressure need just rub down with a smooth block of wood in a towel. DONE. Did this method numerous times working in restaurants. Laminate makes a washable surface that lasts for years.
Q:How is cement made and what is in it?
I worked at a cement factory in Humboldt Kansas . I was an electrician. There are different kinds of cement .Mort-er , and all kinds of mixes .It was very hot there .They had a kilm . They had a smoke stack that was hot enough to burn tires . So they did . I don't know what all goes into cement .I do know it is very dry and water just beads up on top of it and doesn't soak in till you agitate it.
Reinforced,It is a real alkali resistent glassfibre enterprise of largest scale, most advanced technology and highest outupt in China. After the newly broadened AR glassfibre tank furnace with production capacity of 10000 Tons/ year being put into production, we will be the China largest, world second largest AR glassfibre professional producer in total output.
