- Q: I need to replace a broken tile. I understand how to grout and tile but I have always done large sections and rented a tile saw. Can I use a dremal tool or something like that to cut it so I do not have to rent a saw ?
- best way to replace a broken tile: cut out the grout surrounding the tile using a dremel or a special grout removal tool - they aren't very expensive and by using the actual tool you greatly reduce the risk of damaging the surrounding tiles as you might with the dremel next, use a hammer, wearing safety glasses, and break the tile which is going to be replaced. break it enough so that you can get a scraper underneath the tile to pop it (and all the pieces) out. scrape the mortar (thin set) off. try to get it right down level to the the sub-floor. install new tile
- Q: The bottom row of tiles on my roof are loose.Depending on the weather(wind) I have to move the tiles back every 3 weeks as they are slipping down. How do I fix this without ripping up all the tiles just to nail down this one row?I do not have a gutter.
- If they are the newer cement tiles, I would try a small cement drill, about the size of a 16 penny nail. Try to gently drill a hole in the tile where you want to nail it to the roof. Or use screws that don't rust. Don't nail or screw down to the tile, that will break it. You just want the nail to hold the tile in position. If they are the older mission tiles, made of clay, the same might work. But they are very brittle and may need a wood support shaped the same as the tile to put under before drilling.................JJJ
- Q: My house is in the top floor, the water pipe in the bathroom, and then all the water pipes in the bathroom are clear, the new house, the ground with a tile, surrounded by walls and tiles, no shower or something, the bathroom put a Taiwan washing machine, a Faucet, the ground water is generally the washing machine drain row to the ground and then flow through the water hole. Now the situation is not posted on the side of the tile watermark, the walls of the white putty from the package off. After inspection found the gap between the tile is white, because the tile is white. Suspected to be caused by seepage between the cracks. Do not want to tear tiles to re-engage. Is there a good way to solve it? Buy a private room, certainly not done waterproof
- ust stay in the new house, cement paste the tile produced a hollowing, a long time caused the tiles off; no gaps in the gap of the tile paving, experienced a temperature difference on the corner of the burst ... ... real life, we often encounter The above situation: spent several months, spent tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even millions of houses decorated, not from the fresh freshness came out, in the kitchen, health and other space encountered a pile of trouble. Of course, some consumers because there is no choice of the right brand and high-quality products caused by some consumer distress.
- Q: Tile 60 * 60 price
- 600 * 600 difference of 6 yuan, a good point of about 15 yuan, the best 60 or so
- Q: Our kitchen isn‘t that big and I hate the tile. My fiance says it‘s a huge big deal to remove the tile but not so hard to put new tile in.About how much does it run to remove tile, say from the average size kitchen.... it‘s about 7 foot by 18 feet.
- it is not the tile removing that would cost the money,it is the making good afterwards as you need a straight flat wall/floor to be able to retile it.If your tiles are sound, well stuck and not falling apart/moving then tiling on top is an option.that creates it's own problems tho,in the end edge,on a wall where the tiles just stop, you will see 2 tiles thickness as opposed to one only.If it is floor tiling you talking about then you will have a small problem by the doors, where the new tiling will be a bit higher than whatever is on the other side of the door.If the tiles are stuck on marine ply, make sure you use flexible adhesive and grout for the new tiling.
- Q: ive never tiled anything before. i was thinking of replacing our old tiles around the fireplace and puttnig in slate ones. i am wondering if its a bigger project than it seems. will i have to remove the mantle to do it. is it harder to tile something on the wall or fireplace than the floor? should i just seek a professional or is it easy?thanks
- This okorder /... Bottom line? Maybe this isn't the best project as a first project.
- Q: We just installed laminate wood floors tiles in our open space living/kitchen room. We put ceramic tiles in the kitchen area the wood laminate in the living area. Due to time constraints we had to get the laminate installed first before the tiles. Our tiler was supposed to put something between the wood the tiles but didn‘t. He‘s not being very cooperative about completing this, so we are trying to do something ourselves. What can we put there, so that the grout stops coming apart where the tiles laminate wood meet? Thanks.
- I would be reluctant to use laminate in any area that is liable to get wet -- snowy boots, washing machine leak, plugged toilet etc. Laminate flooring is very durable but it swells when it gets wet and when it swells it pops up at the joins, then chips. I have had to replace two bathroom laminate floors for just this reason. Use a good quality tile and 3 coats of sealer on the grout. When people have trouble keeping grout clean it is usually because they failed to properly seal it. If you're concerned the tile may be slippery when wet, choose a tile with a bit of texture in it. It will look more high end, give some protection against slipping when wet -- and it will last for as long as you own the home. -- Just be sure to seal the grout 3 days after completion and every couple of years thereafter.
- Q: We have a two sink bathroom set up would like to replace the counter-top with a homemade tile counter-top - we are pretty handy but have not dealt with tile before - and before I ask my dad for help I thought why not check out yahoo answers. Thanks! :)
- Depending on what the counter top is now you will need to sand it down and score it (make long scratches in the surface to hold the grout). Next you want to start with the edges and then work your way in. Lay the grout and set the tile. Make sure you get small bumpers to put in between the tiles to keep the spacing even. Make sure you have a way of cutting the tiles also to fit the uneven spaces.
- Q: I need to repair my shower, about 6 tiles fell off. I‘m currently drying the drywall with a fan. Whats the best way to glue tile back on the wall?
- First of all I would look at the wall behind where the tile has came off. If your house is old or installation was poor they may not have the proper material behind the tile, as in the wall. If it is sheetrock, no wonder! You need either greenboard or dur-rock behind it that is the code. Anyways, once you find this out see if it's only sheetrock behind it, it won't do you any good to stick em back up. Which if the material behind is fine than just get some match stick at home depot that's cheap but creates a nasty mess. Or grab a small bag of thinset which you mix with water or some will require an extra additive which will be where ever you go for the thin set. You can get this stuff at Home Depot or Lowes while your there I 'd grab a trowel with 3/8 knotch spacers and your grout. Hopefully all of the peices were full peices. If not your gonna have to borrow a hand held maquita or cutter or saw. Make sure your rows with trowel are even with through out your spread. If you are using thinset, you have to apply thinset to wall and tile. Obviously you stick the tile first grab some sort of extra scrap to spread them appropriately. Wait a day for the thinset to set up and the next day pull out your wedges or spacers and grout. Good luck. Chic
- Q: please be descriptive.........
- Any tile can chip and or crack if an object is dropped on it . But this depends mostly on the quality of the tile and what the tile body and glazing is made of. Some true porcelains are very hard and if they do chip the color goes all the way through the tile body so the chip is barely noticeable. Some older red bodied tile can chip the same way but is very noticeable because the red body shows through. Most average tiles made today are of the white bodied or a porcelain body. Must harder and chip resistant than the old red bodied tiles. To help judge a tiles hardness they are rated in a scale of 1/10. Called a MOHS scale. Any object such as a pc or silverware or a can edge when dropped can top chip a tile. A poor installation or under supported tile the whole tile can crack. High glaze or some times called a bright glaze can chip very easily because these glazes are not usually the best. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there.
