Q:My husband and I just purchased our first house and we are pretty much tapped out for now. We dont have alot of money to remodel but enough to make some temporary improvements until next spring. All of our families are coming for the holidays and I want to spruce up our house. My biggest problem both of our bathrooms floors they are bad looking. I want to put peel and stick tile down but not sure how to measure for it. I want to do this today while my hubby is at work so I can surprise him. Im working on the master bath first its not that big, its only 5 feet by 5 inches long and 5 feet by 3 inches wide. How much peel and stick would I need? I have already cleaned the floors very well, what other tools do i need to get?
Most tile packs give an area coverage guide ,this site will give you a visual instruction of how to lay etc hope it helps, also times the length by the width to get the area 28'6 You will only need a stanley knife and a straight edge to cut self adhesive tiles
Q:I just mortared some very porous tiles down and i‘m ready to grout. I‘ve used these tiles before and noticed it‘s pretty tough to get the haze to go away. Should i pre-seal the tile before grouting? if so, what brand or name? Also, do i still use a grout haze remover if needed? And lastly what is your recommended tile sealer to finish the job?
Yes, yes, yes! Porous tile, natural stone, etc., needs to be sealed prior to grouting. If this tile has a smooth or shiny finish, you need to use unsanded grout so you don't scratch it. They sell commercial cleaner but vinegar and water will take the haze off in most cases. Everyone has their own preferences on sealer, but they're all about the same. Your consideration should be whether you want a shiny or dull finish. Remember, the shiny finish will be slicker when wet than the dull finish.
Q:i am getting my kitchen done over in 2 weeks cost is not a factor i cant decide to do tiles or harwood flooring which is better for the kitchen. i have two kids 2 and 5
I am a kitchen designer and have seen so many clients go through this debate :) The problem is that every type of floor has its advantages and disadvantages. A lot of times, it really comes down to considering your lifestyle and what will be easiest for you. Tile is very durable, but will crack with time. As the house settles and the floor becomes uneven, there will be higher risk of cracking. Also if you drop something heavy on it. It is very easy to mop clean, but you do have to consider grout issues. The grout can be tough to clean if you choose a lighter color. Grout is also porous, so if you are worried about bacteria, you will have to keep up with sealing it. Hardwood is also durable, but you must be careful of water damage. If you spill water on it or have a leak under the sink, get it cleaned up as soon as you can. I don't think that means you have to mop up spills the second they hit the floor, but if there's an area in the kitchen that gets splashed a lot, you'll see the damage with time. Wood also needs to be refinished now and again, but not so frequently that it will stop you from purchasing it. There are also some really nice vinyl floors out there that look a lot like tile but are not as cold, hard and prone to cracking. However, if you drop a sharp knife on it or if a child wears soccer cleats around the kitchen, you'll see dents and punctures :) Some laminate flooring (like the brand name Pergo) have flooring that looks either like wood or tile. These floors are durable, but you'll have to beware water damage, just like with wood. This flooring is easy to install and take out. It also doesn't need to be refinished like hardwood. It's a lot to take in, but my advice is to consider the pros and cons of each, then think of your lifestyle and who lives in your house, then make a decision based on that. Good luck!
Q:I pick tiles.easier to clean = BIG plus
carpet, tile is easier to slip and break your bones or something. if you ever want tile, choose HARD tile not SOFT tile because soft tile will end up as an accident. hard tile is just tile with rougher edges so you won't slip.
Q:the third tile. All three tiles types have the same side length. Determine the shape of the third tile type.
Where 3 tiles meet, they must add up to a full 360°. The formula for the interior angle of a regular n-sided polygon is: ((n - 2)*180) / n Plugging in n=4, the interior angle of a square is 90° Plugging in n=5, the angle of a pentagon is 108° The angle of the third tile is x and the 3 angles must add up to a full 360°: 90 + 108 + x = 360 Solve for x: x = 360 - 198 x = 162 Plug that into the original equation and solve for n: ((n - 2) * 180) / n = 162 (n-2) * 180 = 162n n - 2 = (162/180)n n - (162/180)n = 2 (18/180)n = 2 (1/10)n = 2 n = 2 * 10 n = 20 So the third tile must be from a regular icosagon (20-sided polygon) Answer: Regular icosagon; see the picture below.
Q:I live in Tennessee near nashville, I want to recarpet and ceramic tile in my house but want an estimated cost, of how much so i dont get jipped It‘s a 2,000 sq ft house and.. its two bath one kitchen for tile and three bedroom and living room and hallway for carpet.. anyone know where i can get help i dont want to overpay at all! also empire company has anyone ever done business with them? know if they are good at all///?
Check out Home Depot or Lowes.............personal opinion - don't use carpet at all - it holds in so much dirt, dust, mites, smells, etc. Terrible for anyone with allergies. Just my opinion. The only place that has carpet in our house is the stairs and hallway...........put laminate wood flooring in the bedrooms and tile everywhere else. You can buy throw rugs that can be cleaned easier than carpeting. Best of luck!! ?
Q:Ready to buy tiles, no conditions to buy the brand, and we look at a British brand, I would like to ask these two models about how much the sale price? LC-8823 and ZC-8001
Tell the landlord do not like to listen to, you said the brand I was in the tile industry for so long, I basically have not heard. The The The The It may be my personal ignorant it, Oh ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ general you said the brand 800 * 800 market price (if the business is not black heart) probably: 25-40 between each piece, if beyond this price You buy it then. The The The The The Oh, if higher than the price of the proposed landlord to see: the new Pearl Group's brand, Mona Lisa, Hongyu, Enuo, the king, strong and other brands, are more reliable products in the end of the product.Or I answer those friends of those words: In fact, what brand is not important, it is important that you do not understand the tiles, teach some of the industry to identify tiles good or bad way, hope to help you:
Q:We have a fireplace in our lower level that is outdated, dingy old masonry and doesn‘t fit with the rest of our updates down there. I would like to tile over it and have it ready for use before our family comes over for Thanksgiving. What is the best method?
You can attach tile directly to masonry, it has been done all over the world for centuries (Italy, Spain, Middle East all use tile on the exterior of buildings...) I would assume normal thin-set mortar would work, but I believe it would depend on the exact type of masonry- concrete block or clay brick. A thicker adhesive bed will likely be necessary to smooth over the rough surface, but because of the relatively porous surface of most types of masonry your bond should be excellent. My only word of caution would be if you have any cracks in the masonry. Make sure they are not active (widening and narrowing), which may occur with temperature and humidity swings. Either way, you may choose to weld the crack with epoxy to prevent any crack movements that may telegraph through your tile and crack it.
