- Q: anyone familiiar with laying tile flooring? never done it myself but i just bought a house and want to do it. is there anything an amature would mess up?? any info would be great
- first take a 4 foot level and place it on the floor move it around and look between the level and the floor for gaps. small ones are ok any more than 3/8 should be filled with self levelling concrete. do a dry run with your tiles. from the door to the wall and 90 degrees to that to the other wall.like an L shape. you don't want to have to cut a half inch of tile to make the wall sh space them at the start to end with about 1/2 tile on the finish wall. and the one thing no one will tell you is if you look on the back of the tile you will see paint lines going in one direction all the tiles should be layed with the line going in the same direction. use adhesive concrete to hold down the tile and use the spacers for your grout lines.
- Q: 10x7 ft room (70 square ft)I already took up the linoleum which was hard to do and there is some linoleum backing on most of the floor I cant get up that they will removethey will lay something on the floor that will prevent the tile from crackinggluing down the tile and grouting and sealing itI am in the southgrand total $1000.00 labor labor and materials is $15.00 a square ft
- Seriously bid is way too high especially if you did some of the work yourself...the paper you lay on the floor is cheap and tile is not that pricey for such a small area..even a master tile layer wont cost that much it can be done in under a day of work by one guy
- Q: I am wondering which tile will be easier to clean, polished or non polished? My hub and I are remodeling the bathroom and we are in the stage of deciding of tiles for the shower wall and bathroom floor.
- I will say polished, less pourous.=)
- Q: Just how long the renovation of the new house, my home bathroom tiles on the ground as long as the bath will be seepage, the investigation of the pipeline without problems, leaks are no problems, where the problem? Urgent to be resolved.
- If there is a problem with the waterproof layer, you must tear down the tiles, the walls hit the waterproof layer, see the inner wall is better, and then re-putty putty, re-do waterproof layer of the wall, and then paving tiles, Generally this method is more complex, so it is recommended to check again. Followed by the rupture of water pipes lead to seepage, this situation, when the need to check the water pipe to test to see if there is leakage, if it is due to damage caused by water pipes, to immediately find the leak, open the wall to replace the water pipe The If only because of moisture caused by wall water seepage, so only need to pay more attention to the daily ventilation and cleaning of the bathroom can be.
- Q: newly installed ceramic tiles did not adhere to the tile adhesive
- were they walked on before they dried? .. or maybe the thinset wasnt put down thick enough to make a good bed or mixed incorrectly .. all i can think of .. sounds like a mess ..
- Q: We are thinking of putting nonporous wall tile on walls in our kitchen ... even above the stove. The tile there may get some splatter from cooking so I‘m wondering how difficult is it to clan a nonporous tile? I am assuming it is fairly easy, but would love to hear what the community thinks.
- Nonporous tile is very easy to clean. You can remove grease and grime with regular dishwashing liquid...just a drop on a clean sponge. Scrub with this and wipe with a clean wet rag. I think you'll like the tiles. Nonporous tiles are a piece of cake to keep clean. -
- Q: Am I able to Lay down Ceramic/Porcelain Tiles directly on top of vinyl tiles. If So are there special material that I need to use.Even though the floor is in the basement, it seems that the vinyl is laid over wood, rather than concerete. Thanks for your answer.
- Yes it is possible if your vinyl is in good condition with no loose areas. This method is generally not recommended though. You should remove your vinyl and use and good embossing floor leveler before preceding with installation as normal. You can give it try over the vinyl but I believe you will be happier in the long run with a job you know was done right.
- Q: We have an installer, whom seems to be doing it wrong. I can‘t find any website that explains how to install tile the way he is doing it. Can you tell me if this sounds correct?First he puts mortar on the bare cement floor, then put down versa-bond or a bonding agent.. and then he puts more mortar on the tile and then lays it down.. Does this sound right to you? Thanks
- it sounds like to me he's using a method called mud setting the tile, used on floors that concrete is low in spots, and sounds to me he knows what he is doing,
- Q: i want to paint my bathroom and the walls and floor are ceramic tile what do i do?
- This Site Might Help You. RE: what kind of paint do you paint ceramic tiles with? i want to paint my bathroom and the walls and floor are ceramic tile what do i do?
- Q: Hi, I am thinking about placing vinyl wood planks over the existing ceramic tile in my house and I wanted to know if it‘s possible. The tile isn‘t completely level due to the grout and obviously not all the tiles are exactly the same height down to the millimeter. I wanted to know 1. Is it possible to install vinyl wood plank over ceramic tile, 2. If so how level the tile floor has to be, 3. How would I go about leveling the floor, with an underlayment or with some sort of mortar, 4. If I use an underlayment do I still need to use the mortar to level the tile?Thank you.
- While its always best to remove the tile and start with a fresh base for a new sub floor for the vinyl tile. This can be done .. You need to go over the tile with whats called an embossing leveler.. This will allow the vinyl to not show the grout lines. The high spots can be knocked down or floated so its barely noticeable. . By the time you do all this and the chance that you don t get any uneven tile floated out, your better off taking every thing out and do it proper. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.
