- Q: Real tile or those that u just glue on?? why?
- There are some nice vinyl self-adhesive tiles out there, and for about a dollar a square foot, it's hard to go wrong. Just do good prep work to make sure it's beautiful and long-lasting. Ceramic tile takes a lot of work. Additionally, you may need backer board for either type of floorcovering if there are any imperfections in your existing subfloor, and the combined thickness of the board, mud, and ceramic tile quickly adds up to a taller floor that can cause stubbed toes when transitioning off carpet areas. Bottoms of doors can begin to drag the floor too. Good luck and happy scraping.

- It depends on the exact tile and where you are putting them. Some say wall tile on a show board ( for example) but can be used on floors also in certain areas of the house ( bath rooms 1/2 baths) If they do have a real shiny surface on them , they ll have a 0 rating , meaning walls only. Some other that say walls , that have a matte finish, can be used on the floor in baths. These have a 1-2 rating for slip resistance. Putting the tiles down properly is the biggest thing to be concerned with. Almost any tile put down properly wil not break. - Sarri is right, it depends on what they are made of. I had the ones that pop into a frame, they are plastic sheeting with some insulation. I took them down, I washed them with soap and water, and put them back dry. And it depends on what it is on them. If it is cig smoke, you either need dishwashing soap made for greasy dishes, or a strong cleaning solution. I used 409 on my walls. I used a swifter with pads soaked in 409 on my painted bathroom ceiling. It took a lot of scrubbing. Buy one of those soft bristle brooms meant for corners amd ceilings, those work well on the dust. The tiles in this house are porous, they seem to be made from some sort of stiff fiberboard. These I wiped off with a damp rag, bought some paint primer and gave them a nice coat, then came back with ceiling paint. They look great. And if they are badly stained, and need to be sealed, there are paints for that.

- In a home setting it rally doesn t matter what you use. They ll all out last us if they are properly set. And setting is the key from the floor prep to the glueing of the tile with thin set. Two basic type of porcelains, full bodied porcelains where the color goes through out. The backing is basically the same colored as the front. Then you have glazed porcelains where the tile body is porcelain , the porcelain is baked, there is a color or pattern on the surface and then a glaze is applied. Then there is the standard clay bodied tile where the clay is baked , a color on the surface and a glaze and its refired again. Homogenized tiles, and I m not over familiar with them is a very hard tile that has a very low water absorption rate. - If your tiles are clean and tightly bound to what ever they are bonded to, yes it can be done with special adhesives and longer drying times. Its always best to start anew. Ripping out the old and starting over but not always possible. You ll need the proper thin set, correct size trowels for the tile being layed, buckets,tile cutters such as a wet saw and hand cutter. Grout floats,wax rings ,saws to cut doors down since they may not clear after. If you ve never tiled before, maybe you should hire it done, this isn t a beginner type job, but if you want to try, I ll help guide you. Basic skills in construction and plumbing wil come in handy. - I answered 2 peel and stick tile Q's just today, I wouldn't use it or advise it, but obviously it sells. Cathy has the best first answer, take up the toilet. Without knowing what the old floor is, or the substrate and not knowing how long you plan to occupy the house, IF I was to do the job, I'd use contact cement on the existing floor and back olf the peel and stick.
