Q:Complete DIY newbie here with an outdated bathroom that I want to make a master. The floor is covered in hideous 1x1 tiles. I will replace this tile with some 12x12 or 8x8. Any suggestions on how to get this stuff off?
Rent a hammer chisel and it will make short work of it.
Q:is there any benifits to having the tiled ceilings? please answer ASAP
It's so they can easily get into the ceiling and do repairs/alterations to the electrical wiring and/or plumbing.
Q:My husband and I are building a new home. I would love to put ceramic tiling in my kitchen/dining room (they are combined). Do you think that 14‘X23‘ is too large for tiling? Its a concrete slap, and we will be doing the work ourselves. Any tips would be helpful!! I am looking for tips, suggestions, tools needed, extra supplies, ideas, horror stories, turned out good stories, I will take it all! Thanks so much!
Big rooms are awesome for tiling, and fun too! You will need the mortar (which is the adhesive for the tile), a spreader for the adhesive, and it's always good to have a tile cutter, because you will probably have to make cuts. You can get a decent tile cutter for about $60. We did our kitchen tile on a diagonal, and it turned out AWESOME! Once you have the tile layed, remember to let it dry for a few days before you grout it. Go to Home Depot and other home improvement stores, and just talk to people. They can steer you in the right direction, show you the tools you need, and tell you how to do it. Good luck!!! ;)
Q:The tile I have has some asbestos in it .How do I dispose of it. Also somebody also said that the glue has some of it in it,True or False
Ok here goes. I just did that same job and disposed of it a little at a time in the trash by breaking it up. I removed it with a hair dryer of all things. You heat the tiles up with it and scrape under them. Most of the tar or adhesive will come with it. Plan on it taking a good deal of time too. I then just washed it down good let it dry over night and re-did peel and stick tiles with a shiny finish. It looks great. Happy flooring.
Q:I now want to match the tile and extend it into my living room and dining area. How would I go about finding the same tile?
Can you contact the company that laid the tile? Do you remember how you picked it out? Catalogue, Store? Even if you find the name, it might not be a perfect match after all this time. I do my own tiling and I always buy extra in case of repairs later. Storing them in the original box gives you the Manufacturer and style #. The tile contractor should have done this as he has no need for any extra tile left over.
Q:I am tiling my kitchen and My house was a prefab. and OLD. The plywood used was 1/2 (I measured it). what thickness of backboard/cement board should I use for under the tile and on top of the plywood? I was thinking 1/2 backerboard/cement board so there is 1 of subfloor under the tile. Do you think this is enough? Also, I am tiling around my cabinets, what do I do about the dishwasher? Do I tile around it? If I tile under it, it won‘t fit in the spot then. I was going to tile around it... I do have room to tile under the fridge though. There is space above.
This Site Might Help You. RE: Ceramic Tile Subfloor Thickness? I am tiling my kitchen and My house was a prefab. and OLD. The plywood used was 1/2 (I measured it). what thickness of backboard/cement board should I use for under the tile and on top of the plywood? Q:Our kitchen isn‘t that big and I hate the tile. My fiance says it‘s a huge big deal to remove the tile but not so hard to put new tile in.About how much does it run to remove tile, say from the average size kitchen.... it‘s about 7 foot by 18 feet.
It should only cost about as much a sledge hammer costs. And you don't even need that big of one. Other than that just go in and hit it with the sledge and it will come up.
Q:do everything and what thickness of mortar between the tiles and the floor should be observed
If the bathroom has timber floor boards with a covering on top remove any plastic tiles or old carpets and lay thin plywood on top screwed down to the floorboards as a solid base for the new tiles (you omit this if the bathroom has a concrete floor) then either buy some floor tiles adhesive (for plastic tiles) or mix some tile cement (for ceramic tiles) spread the adhesive /tile cement on the floor base using a slotted trowel that applies the adhesive/cement in rows, then follow the adhesive/cement makers instructions to leave for a period - then lay the plastic tiles edges butting or ceramic tiles with plastic spacers to allow for the grout to be added between the tiles, start from the back working obviously towards the door. You can unscrew the toilet pan and slide tiles underneath likewise the bathtub panels remove to fit the tiles underneath (note you will have to trim the bathtub panel so it can be re fitted over the tiles, you may wish to tile up to baseboards (skirting UK) or remove them and tile underneath. As you can see this job is quite involved -do you have good diy skills? Otherwise leave to a pro to tile it for you maybe you can buy the tiles and he lays them?
Q:my dad is does tile. He has quite a bit of leftover tile from various jobs. Is it possible that we can recycle tile?
There are ARTISTS who use CERAMIC tile scraps.
Q:Remodeling the bathroom...How can i drill a hole in ceramic tile...What kind of drill would I use..or what kind of file would be best to make a hole in the tile to go around the shower faucet..Thanks for your input...
This hole should be around 1/2 so you can use a typical masonry bit that is 1/2. Start the hole like the other writer proposed with a nail to de-glaze the tile then center the bit where you chipped off some of the glaze and start your hole drilling s-l-o-w-l-y. Any drill that can accept the 1/2 bit will work.
