Q: It‘s been a while since I have done tile, but I remember we used to use sheetrock to cover the floor or for back splash wall, however I don‘t remember what it was used for. Is there special cases when you need to use it or do I need to use it every time? What is the purpose to use the sheetrock? Please help. Thanks.
You never use a sheetrock to do tile. Only as a normal wall covering to be painted in a non wet area such as a back splash or a wainscot. Then that you can tile over. You may have used a product ( or one similar) called Denshield. This is a 1/2 special backer board you can use on floors and you work with it just like a sheet rock. because it was a light weight fiberglass impregnated gypsum board. Just like the 1/2 cement board you could use it on floors and wall where moisture is present and you installed it in a thinset bed of mortar prior to nailing it down. Sheet rock is a general term for dry wall, used for regular walls to be painted. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q: Anybody know of any apps/programs that give the user the ability to make custom sized metro tiles, similar to the windows phone?
You can only choose tile sizes for Windows Store apps right now and you only get two sizes to choose from. Tiles for desktop programs only have one size. I downloaded the Windows 8 Blue OS that was leaked a few days ago and it allows 3 tile sizes for Windows Store apps. I was also able to make desktop program tiles one size smaller but who knows if that will carry over to the final release. - Dominic
Q: I live in Tennessee near nashville, I want to recarpet and ceramic tile in my house but want an estimated cost, of how much so i dont get jipped It‘s a 2,000 sq ft house and.. its two bath one kitchen for tile and three bedroom and living room and hallway for carpet.. anyone know where i can get help i dont want to overpay at all! also empire company has anyone ever done business with them? know if they are good at all///?
DO NOT buy overpriced ceramic tile at a huge chain store. Find a discount builder warehouse of some kind that carries flooring supplies. We recently put new 12x12 tile throughout our entire house and paid only 68cents per tile! We got rid of all the carpet, it is so nasty! You wouldn't believe the germs, mold, dirt, sand, bugs, etc., that get trapped underneath, no matter how much you vacuum. The labor price depends on the worker. Ask around, find a friend who knows someone who lays tile. We had a friend lay ours for about $1.00 per square foot.
Q: Dont judge me, but can i install tile and drywall in a camper, without cracking, chipping, etc.
You'd have to really rigid up the walls if you are going to pull it around much. Is it paneled with wood now? Drywall is going tomake it heavier tool
Q: A roof tile falls off the roof of a house. An observer inside the house notices that the tile took 0.2 s to pass a 1.6 m window of the house. If the tile feel from rest, how far above the top of the window did it fall from? Give your answer in meters, recall that this is height above the window and has a positive sign, do not enter units.
1.6 m/0.2 secs = average velocity = 8 m/s 8 - ((0.2/2) x 9.8) = 7.02 m/s v = at 7.02/a = 7.02/9.8 = t = 0.7163 secs t^2 x (1/2a) = t^2 x 4.9 = 2.5143 m
Q: The tile I want to clean was built with the house back in the early 1900‘s but still in very good condition what would be the best way to clean that because its very dirty, and i think its porcealin. The second set of tile looks like it was put in back in the seventies but doesn‘t match the original tile at all, what would be the best way to change the color other than replacing it. Could i use pray paint?
Do not use LimeAway! This product is an acid that will etch the glazing on the surface of the tile. This result is not repairable. The most safe and effective way to clean dirty tile and grout is to use a cleaner specifically designed for this use. Check a local floorcovering store, especially if there's one in your area that specialized in tile. Look for a heavy duty tile and grout cleaner, there should be several options available. Any kind of paint that I'm aware of is not a viable long term option. Paint will fail to penetrate the glaze of the tile, and therefore will be subject to wear fairly quickly.
Q: I‘m trying to tile a map using swing (JPanel and JFrame) but don‘t know where to start. Ideally the map would end up looking like pokemon or 2D zelda games, where there is an invisible, underlying grid, and the person occupies one spot at a time. Does anyone know how to do this?I can get a sprite to move, but that‘s based on pixels, not on tiles. If you know how to do this, can you paste code and explain it?
That's the most efficient way to do it. You use math to calculate positions, so the tiles are virtual. Unless you really need to draw tiles with boundaries, don't show them (like the original Warcraft game). Perform all of your calculations like movement and clicks-to-tile conversions based on pixel location. This is far more efficient that trying to do it with lots of actual Java subpanels merged together. But, note that it's a lot of work and you have to carefully work out your calculations to make sure your clicks are aligned correctly. One mistake I made with a hex map once was I used doubles and I casted them to integers too early, and the slight different (by losing percentage) threw all my calculations off slightly. The trick is to create your background image tiles so that they blend seamlessly together on all sides. That will take a LOT of effort.
Q: Does floor tile give a lot of heat? I want to get a tile substrate for my leopard gecko, but I don‘t know if it will get warm enough for him. I have an under tank heater, so if I put the tile in will the heat from the under tank heater block or go through the tile?
Yes, tiles are great. The tile will retain heat, so that's even better. Leo's are found on hard clay in the wild so tiles are the best replica.
Q: I would appreciate a double check on this problem. I believe I‘ve saved myself a lot of cutting, but I just want to make sure. My shower is 59 inches wide. My tile is 4.25 inches wide and tall. (square)My spacers are .25 inches wide. The middle point of my shower 29.5 inches. If I move my center line to the right or left by 2 and 1/8 inches I should be able to cover the entire width with 13 tile IF I allow for a 1/8th inch addition in each corner. Is this correct?
Ok so ignore your center line it does not matter here your tiles are 4.25, your grout lines are .25 and you are trying to get the tile and grout lines into a space that is 59 so if you take 13 tiles you get 55.25 for those tiles you will have 12 standard .25 grout lines totaling 3 giving you a total of 58.25 now from here what I would do instead of adding grout line and caulking on each end is form an L with the next wall (assuming you have 3 walls to tile to enclose the shower) because a standard wall tile is about .25 thick this would give you an 1/8 bead of caulk in each corner. Make sense?
Q: Yesterday I bought tile from menards and they are sticky on the backs of them, my question is do I need to use other glue as well? If so what kind of glue?
Peal and stick tile need no other type of glue. If fact , another glue may react to the glue on the tile. These work best when installed on new clean ply wood surface. A surface that hasn t been sealed by other glues or other substances. Best to use a heavy roller to help embed the glue on the back of the tile into the new surface.
