- Q: I am looking at replacing my kitchen floor, which currently has carpeting. (Bought the house like that.) And now I am looking to do either vinyl or tile. I understand tile is good for a lifetime, where as vinyl is good for 15-20 years for the heavier kind, but tile is double the cost. We plan on staying in our house a long time, if not forever, but in the case we would decide to sell, would tile or vinyl give us more value?
- I could write a book on how to lose money in real estate, so listen up! Tile will NOT increase the value of your home. Value is based upon an old formula that counts Square Feet, and that's all! Whatever you put on the floor today will be outdated in 15-20 years and the new buyer will want to replace it. Tile can crack when you drop a heavy pan or pot on it. Expensive repair. Tile is not as comfortable to walk on. Tile will feel cold in the winter. And when wet, tile will be super slippery. Plus, tile needs a Perfectly Flat base- most homes don't have that and require extra sub-flooring or leveling compound if you're on a slab. Now-a-days the vinyl flooring is Excellent. You can get vinyl that Looks like tile, is a little cushioned and comfy to walk on and has an expected life of 20+ years! When you sell, there is NO difference in what your house will appraise. Save the extra money and get a Better floor, more livable and half the expense of tile and go with a high quality vinyl.
- Q: The tiles were installed about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and we decided that we just cant live with the really wide grout lines that ended up gradually becoming huge. So we‘ll have to remove about half of the tile. Is it possible to remove and reuse these tiles? If so, what about the left-over thin set? Will it be stuck on the tiles? And what about the cement board under them? Is it reusable or easier to just replace? Thanks for any answers!
- if it was me i would remove them, you need to have a flat surface, and it in best to dura rock screwed down before the tile if it's on wood. the easiest way to remove them i have found is to get an air compressor with a air chisel tool for it. or you can always use the old hammer and chisel/flatbar method. but it is really important that you have a smooth surface with no dirt or you will get little air pockets under the tile making it really easy to crack the tile's and it will look like crap because pieces will come out. and when your done with the job, the next day you can lightly tap on the tile with the handle of a screw driver and if it sounds hollow it means you got air pockets underneath. if you have air pockets it is possible to take just the affected tiles out and remortar it/them. also make sure you use mortar not glue, some people think they can use glue but trust me in the long run it doesnt work that well. good luck i hope this helped
- Q: How does Tengzheng build tiles on the elevations?
- H shortcut key pattern filled with a variety of building materials inside the pattern, select the range and proportion can be filled directly after.
- Q: we had our bathroom redone, it looks great but the guy that did it got some grout on one of the decorative tiles, where it shouldn‘t be. Is there a way to get the grout off ?
- Perfect answer Rob, took the words right out of my mouth.
- Q: Or must I use Duraroc board or a similar item. Also can I use a ceramic wall tile on the floor ? I know they are of different thicknesses but would the wall tile hold up on a floor? Thanks for all the help.
- You can tile over sheetrock, but if it is painted with a paint with gloss, you need to sand the wall to remove the gloss first. If the tile is above the tub where it will be wet on a regular basis, you should replace the sheetrock with Durarock or hardibacker. Wall tile can be used on the floor, but should be installed over durarock or hardibacker. In addition the sub-floor and underlayment should be at least 1 1/4 thick if the floor joists are on 16 centers, thicker if the span is wider. The biggest concern with wall tile is that it is usually glossy and slick, which means it will be extremely slick to the point of being hazardous, especially wet.
- Q: Can I go over the exixting tile,or do I have to remove the old tile first. There is ceramic tile there now,and I want to intsall new ceramic tile.I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question.
- As long as the tile down now is down tight and secure. The surface must be clean and dry w/ no oils or wax on them Dont use your plain latex thin set, get one that is stronger, price will help dictate it. Allow a minimum of an extra day drying time since the moisture has no where to go , before walking and or grouting. Any questions you can e mail me GL
- Q: I‘m getting some of my house tiled and would like to know if I am getting ripped off or not. It is going to be approximalte 600 sq ft with 2 upstairs bathrooms. The installer gave me a quote of $2400 to lay the tile (straight or diagonal, whichever I want). I will have to buy the tile and other materials on my own. The tile is going to be 18x18. The price includes ripping out the carpet and ripping out the tile that is already in the kitchen that will be replaced as well as the tile in the upstairs baths. Also included will be haul away of all the trash. Is this a good price or not?
- I am a contractor and for the work you describe i would usually charge 10 dollars a square foot. But I would include all the material including the tile but not exceeding a certain price per foot. And diagonal is extra so I think you got a damn good deal. Be careful check the guy research now no tears later.
- Q: what tiles would be better to install kitchen? sometimes I get some information on the internet. My friends saw some beautiful pitcures about floors online.
- Almost any kind or tiles will work excellent for a residential kitchen floor. Porcelain, ceramic work fine. The proper installation is the most important thing . I would stay away from stones on the floor in a kitchen. Harder to maintain but they are beautiful in less foot traffic areas. Any type tile with a multi colored look helps hides day to day dirt and looks better between sweeping. There are a multitude of stone looking ceramics and porcelains. That the way I suggest. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: The house to decorate the floor in the choice of headache, wooden floor generous and beautiful, but will rot, will be deformed, have to resist termites; and tiles no problem, but now many people use wooden floor, personal really do not know how to choose The Is there any friend who can give professional advice?
- Wood flooring is divided into solid wood flooring, parquet and laminate flooring; tile is what we say floor tiles. Wood floors and tiles, each with advantages and disadvantages, you can from the following angles to contrast Practicality: 1. home will often have guests access, or whether the family has the habit of wearing slippers, after all, relatively contrast with the floor tile and wear and cleaning; 2. Whether there will be a very tide in the year, no matter what the wooden floor, tidal weight will be deformed or corroded, but the degree is different, but if the tile is not anti-skid but also consider whether the elderly or children, easy wrestling ; 3. indoor light how strong, light can be considered non-reflective wood flooring, light can be considered weak light color tiles. Decorative: Combined with the living room in the walls, ceiling, furniture overall consideration. Such as wall wood structure more, and are wood-style paste, or furniture style classical, with the floor color will see some of the harmony. For example, if it is hard line style, or color to black and white, can be considered with tiles and so on. Economy: If the economy can bear the words, or home with the elderly and children, you can choose private space such as the bedroom floor solid wood flooring, warm, good foot feeling, but the solid wood flooring prices are high, take care of a little trouble. Followed by all the pavement of wood flooring, so warm and comfortable, take care is also simple.
