- Q: The previous owner placed VCT tiles on beautiful hardwood floors. I want to remove them, without messing up the wood too bad, since I want to sand and wax the floors after I remove them.Is there a way to do this without ruining the floors? Can I rent a machine? Should I try to heat up the tiles? They are glued on very well, and its a large area. The machines I have seen so far, look like they are made to remove tiles that are placed on concrete. Thanks in advanced
- First, okorder /.. If you don't have to deal with asbestos, you can rent a commercial floor scraper that will peel up the tile and most of the adhesive. But you might try to get up a few tiles by hand first, just to see what the hardwood floor looks like. Maye the previous owner covered them with VCT because they weren't so beautiful.
- Q: The tile guy just wants to add fresh grout, but doesn‘t that wood need to be replaced too. Help the work is to be done in 2 days.
- Is this tile in the shower? If so you need to pull up the tile and have a tile membrane installed on the floor to waterproof the area. If it is outside the shower the wood should be treated wood or it will bulge and crack the tile in the future. If it is treated wood then you can just lay replacement tile down. If they know what they are doing and have the appropriate help, then any tile job can be done in one day.
- Q: I used acetone on my tile to get up some hair dye and it stained the tile white where the acetone was. i know now that i probably shouldn‘t have done this so please just answer question. How do i fix it?
- Without knowing what kind of tile you're talking about, it's hard to give an accurate answer. Because your tile was blemished by the acetone, I assume it is a matte finish tile, which will absorb moisture. You will probably have to replace the tile. First, go to a tile or flooring store, explain what you did and what happened and see what they recommend. As for fixing the tile, if you haven't removed old grout, fractured and removed a tile, cleaned out old thinset, laid new thinset, the tile, and grouted, I suggest you leave this to a professional.
- Q: Are you decorating the house with tiles or wood? why? How do you choose!

Analysis of Advantages and Disadvantages of Tiles of the advantages: in general, the tiles a favorite reason are mainly easy to clean, easy maintenance, easy to hide pollution, no air pollutants; long life, generally can use 10-20 years; fire, water, Good; environmentally friendly and rich shape. Casually in which building materials market, there are a variety of sizes, all kinds of colors and various patterns of tiles for sale, with tiles can spell out the vision of family life, and take care of convenient, do not have to worry about being wet or hardened by water Scratches.
- Q: We are laying 18 x 18 porcelain tiles in our kitchen for an open house we‘re having in 6 days. We can‘t figure out when and how to tile under the refrigerator. Do we have to move the refrigerator into another room? Can we wait two days for the mortar and grout to set firm and move the refrigerator onto the newly installed tile so we can lay tile where refrigerator will go? If we do that, should we then wait 24 hours for that tile to set so we can move the refrigerator back into place? What is the best way to handle the installation? I would appreciate any thoughts on how this is most ideally done.
- Well, please take my advice as I used to work at a popular Australian tile franchise. Number one - make sure the porcelain you are laying is pre-sealed, as porcelain is a natural stone and is 'porous', so harsh staining can will occur if they are not sealed. If they are just 'Glazed Porcelain' tiles, they don't need to be 'sealed' as they are on a ceramic biscuit and just have a glazed protective coating, which are quite 'hardwearing'. In which they are 'ceramic'. Number two - YES!! you must fully take out all fixtures to lay in the bathroom and kitchen, tiles will almost usually be there many years more than a vanity or a fridge. If you replace your kitchen cabinetry, well all floor space should be tiled. Many people run into problems of the 'previous owner' not doing the job properly, and down the track they wan't the same tile.....well the life of a tile is around 4 years then they become extinct., even if you can get the same tile, it will not be of the same batch/shade. Trying to fix up half-hearted jobs isn't as easy as some people think!!! So please tile ALL floor area and order enough so you have a couple of spare boxes left over, for future repairs. Because you will never get that same tile batch/shade ever again!! You'll also make it easier for the next person who lives there. Also, if you find out that if it is true polished porcelain and there not pre-sealed, buy a 'reputable' tile sealer and seal them before laying. As when you grout the tile (if there not sealed) you will create a grout haze around all your joints and will be a nightmare to remove and your lovely porcelain won't look so 'lovely'!! HAVE FUN......
- Q: Which tile is best Porcelain or ceramic for a concrete floor?
- Either will be fine for a residential setting. Installed properly both will last for years to come. Neither will break if installed properly if something is dropped on them. You can possible get top chips if a heavy object is dropped and both will show the inner body core unless you buy a true porcelain and not the average porcelain glazed tile. Unless you have major moisture problems tile can be used any time. Some moisture ( if any) will wick up and dissipate as normal. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: are tiles get really dirty fast and i tried everything and i cant get them to stay white could i use bleach?
- Clean your bathroom tiles with a soft cloth or mop using pH neutral cleaning solution. Always wipe off any spills immediately as they happen. Never, ever clean this floor with vinegar, as you will destroy the finish. Tile specific cleaning products are available.I recommend you Lustro Italiano Cleaner and Polish which is specifically designed and PH balanced for tile Surfaces. Compared to other polishes and cleaners, it creates a deeper longer lasting shine. you can find it in my source site.
- Q: I need to know the quality of all different kinds of tiles. Please name the tile and the list or features of it so I can see which tile has the best and worst quality! THANK YOU!
- You are such a ***** shut yo mouth before i come through the computer and yank that skanky hare right out of yo scalp also, you need 2 get a life instade of being the town bicycle and leting everyone have ride!THANK YOU!
- Q: I want to lay tile in my mobile home, and I want a cheaper alternative to wonderboard for the tile that I want to install. My home is on a concrete foundation tied down and the flooring is solid I‘m just concerned with the tile not sticking to the osb plywood. Any serious answers would be appreciated
- Unfortunately, there is no cheap solution to this issue. While other products are available, they will all meet, or exceed the cost of cement board (wonderboard). Laying tile onto plywood is not recommended, however it can be done. The problem with laying onto plywood directly is that over time the plywood will compress, which will lead to eventual cracking of tiles and grout. Plywood also carries vibration better than wonderboard, which can lead to cracking again. The tiles will stick to plywood, however, you do run the risk of cracking tiles. Personally, I use a product called Ditra. It is a waffle patterned membrane that prevents cracking due to minor floor movements, and creates a waterproof barrier under the tiles. If cost is your worry, remember that a new, nice looking tile floor will add re-sale value to your home, and you will recover your costs.
- Q: My home decoration just finished tiles to clean up the tiles when there is a cement with a damp cloth has been wiped out how to do? (My family to buy all the tiles) Will you have nothing to hurt the tile method can be removed? Thank you!
- 1. Tile cement stains can not be used steel ball, can be used 1500 or 2000 water sand paper gently wipe, or wipe with dilute hydrochloric acid, wipe clean with clean water .2. Clean up the cement residue cleaning agent can try; 3. "Banana water" paint thinner, good decontamination effect, sprinkle a few drops of tiles, wipe and rinse with water
