- Q: Anyone know if that type of ceiling tile has asbestos? Unsure of the year built. It has a texture to it which is why I‘m worried about it.
- I'll stick my head out and say no that does not contain asbestos, it is a standard 600x600 mineral tile which you can still buy now. I am an asbestos consultant with 10 years experience and that type of tile would not usually be tested as it is well known not to contain asbestos. Ignore the answer which says take to a hardware store, if you ever did that with an asbestos ceiling tile you would probably end up causing yourself massive problems and exposing people.
- Q: Real tile or those that u just glue on?? why?
- Makes no difference until you move the house, and maybe not even then. Mortar cracks
- Q: Hi Folks,Currently I have a bath tub with a vinyl shower surround. I‘m considering removing the shower surround and replacing it with tile.I‘m just wondering how big of a job this is? I‘ve never tiled before but consider myself handy and have done plenty around the house.Of note, I don‘t believe proper backboard is underneath the surround so I‘d have to put that up also. I‘ve put drywall up in the past so I think that part should be ok.So...is this a do it yourself job? Or is this something that needs to be hired out for. Seems like it should be simple, but maybe I‘m missing something and it gets complicated or difficult to make come out nice? Also, how long should this take if I did it myself (days and hours per day) and how long before I can start using the shower again. Thanks!
- You can cut the edge of the tub off and lay the tile right to the top surface of the tub, leave a small gap for grout or caulking. make sure that the backer board is to the edge too. A sawzall will work with a fine blade. You will need to be careful when ya cut though. You can use thin set but there are different grades, use the more expensive one with the polymers in it if you want it to last for decades. You can also fur out the wall half inch or so to make up for the difference at the top of the tub, this will bring the backer board out to where you need it, where it is even with the top of the tub.
- Q: Is there a low price in imported tiles?
- One of the top ten brands of tiles: gold platinum Riley tiles ????Gold Platinum Rally Gambarelli Group has been committed to product development, has been three international patents: Double Face (double face), Oxygena (atmospheric purification brick), MetalStone (metal brick). These three patents represent the Gambarelli Group in product technology research and development achieved important results, its leading other brands of products in the frost resistance is also a good embodiment of high-tech technology. At the same time, the Italian Ministry of Environment has admitted that tiles containing titanium dioxide are environmentally friendly (see Official Gazette Document n 84/04) and cited the valid certificates of the Gambarelli Group as an effective standard for the industry. One of the top ten brands of imported tiles: Gardine tiles ????"Gardner" was formally established in 1961. From the beginning, "Gardner" is committed to design and development, its number of designers is all Italian factories, and even the world's largest ceramic tile factory, and "Gardner" also often employ world famous design As a theme design consultant. In terms of style, "Gardner" always adhere to the European court gorgeous and elegant design style. In terms of production, "Gardner" has always adhered to local production, never to reduce costs and set up factories overseas. It is precisely because of this insistence, "Gardner" has become the benchmark for the world tiles. One of the most proud of the Gardner honors is that Gardner is the first factory in the world to show tiles with a model, which changes the way the world displays tiles.
- Q: I am planning on laying some tile today but not sure when it can be walked on. Also, can I lay some today and start again tomorrow? It is in a small bathroom.
- I usually layout for full tiles splitting the door and full tiles on the wall behind the door measure into the bathroom usally just past the end of the cabinet for full tiles snap a line across your bath then snap a line for full tiles down the wall.Check for square then work your way back out of the bathroom. If you start setting from center and working out you will probably wind up with cut tiles meeting the carpet a serious cut hazard for bare feet. You can walk on the tile the next day.
- Q: What are the different types of tile and how much of them does it take to cover 1 square foot nad what‘s the cost of them
- there are stone tiles (like slate and travertine), there are glass, and there are ceramic ,,, it can very how much a 12*12 tile cost becasue if the material it's made out of you can get ceramic tiles for less than $1 but the more desired tiles like say marble can cost $15 a tile .. look in your local flooring store or at Home Depot or Lowes
- Q: My husband and I just purchased a condo. We want to retile the bathroom in a more modern looking tile or maybe a marble or some kind of fancy tile. We are going to do it ourselves. Where can we find good prices on the tile?
- I would shop around for price, because the more prettier the tile the more expensive it gets. Your options are variable. You can lay down linoleum too that offers a great look. Less mess and elegant quality looks. If you have your mind made up on tile you will have fun doing it. I've done several bathroom floors. Removing the old tile is a bummer and messy. You have to remove the toilet as well. Then clean it up and stick down your new tile and chip it good around the toliet drain. Then grouting it is fun. Put your toilet back and bolt it down. always replace the wax ring if you pull that toilet and use two of them. This way you will never , never have to pull that toilet again for leaks. Try Lowes and see what they carry on for tile. Shop around and if you have to leave the town and try other towns especially small towns where sales are down and prices are down. Small towns don;t do much business and will offer a great linf of tile cheaper than Lowes or any other outlet. Look up carpet chains and chekc with them also. They carry a good line of tile cheap.
- Q: Do you think that it will be dangerous to my children if I put tile throughout my whole home... Falls etc. Thanks for the advice for those who have experience with this! :)
- I have tile in my kitchen that proceeds into a section of the family room. First I would get a textured instead of smooth tile because if their feet are wet or something gets spilled, it is a nasty hard fall. Tile is very easy to clean in my opinion and it does look very nice and adds to the equity in your home. I am not sure I would put tile in my entire house because I do have children (10 and almost 5) and I have had 2 situations where the floor was wet and my son went down hard. So my suggestion is to not put tile in the whole house, but choose certain rooms. There are pros to it, but having children myself it can be a nasty fall when it is wet and someone slips on it. If put in the kitchen or bathroom I would go for a textured tile instead of smooth to help prevent those falls.
- Q: I‘m trying to tile a map using swing (JPanel and JFrame) but don‘t know where to start. Ideally the map would end up looking like pokemon or 2D zelda games, where there is an invisible, underlying grid, and the person occupies one spot at a time. Does anyone know how to do this?I can get a sprite to move, but that‘s based on pixels, not on tiles. If you know how to do this, can you paste code and explain it?
- That's the most efficient way to do it. You use math to calculate positions, so the tiles are virtual. Unless you really need to draw tiles with boundaries, don't show them (like the original Warcraft game). Perform all of your calculations like movement and clicks-to-tile conversions based on pixel location. This is far more efficient that trying to do it with lots of actual Java subpanels merged together. But, note that it's a lot of work and you have to carefully work out your calculations to make sure your clicks are aligned correctly. One mistake I made with a hex map once was I used doubles and I casted them to integers too early, and the slight different (by losing percentage) threw all my calculations off slightly. The trick is to create your background image tiles so that they blend seamlessly together on all sides. That will take a LOT of effort.
- Q: are linulium tiles long lasting? how can I replace.
- Linoleum tiles will last a long time if they are put down properly. You can put over the old if there are no bad spots in them. If you'd rather pull the old up, its a long process. Make sure the floor is smooth before you put the new tile down. Use the proper glue, ask a hardware employee where your getting the tile what kind you should use. Good Luck.
