Q: I laid a new porcelain tile floor in my bathroom. Old linoleum tile floor was in good shape so I just laid right over the top of it. All turned out well except around the toilet. Two of the tile cracked when I screwed the toilet back down to the floor. Obviously I‘ll have to pull the toilet again, remove cracked tiles and start over....but how to I avoid the cracks again?
You should have done a better job from the start. Don't lay tile over vinyl period. How to maybe salvage your project without starting over. Remove the cracked tiles. Cut away the vinyl in the area lay the tile directly on the sub-floor and make sure you have adhesion. In addition to using notched trowel back butter the tile. Let it dry completely and grout. When you reinstall the toilet make sure you don't over tighten. This is not how I would tell you to lay tile, but your other choice is to rip everything up, including the vinyl and install a proper underlayment, like dura-rock and re-tile.
Q: We‘re fixing our place and will need about 1200 sq ft of 24x24 tile. Any ideas as to how/where one can get this at wholesale/lower cost? Thanks!
You ll have trouble finding a lot in a 24x 24 tile wholesale/retail or other wise. These are a more pricey tile since the size alone makes them hard to handle, transport and produce. Your chance are better off in a 16x16 or 18x18 tiles because of getting that many you can pallet pricing and get a discount. Unless you have a builders license your not supposed to be able to buy them wholesale but you can get a deal in that quantity through your mom and pop flooring places. You may be able to find a deal at your discount places, but a lot of that tile is close out and discontinued tiles which I don t recommend when getting that amount.( may not be able to get more should you need it.) Q: I am doing my bathroom slate and i need a bullnose tile. I special ordered it at Home Depot and now they are telling me it is discontinued. I was wondering if anyone new of a web site or store that i could order this from because my bathroom is supposed to be started Monday and Now i dont have the bull nose... please help??
I okorder /... This is a link in my gneral search. Perhaps you can find something suitable. Steven Wolf Just my two sense
Q: Do I start in the middle like normal tile? What happens if I don‘t start in the middle due to the uneven wall?
Personally I would dtart in the middle just like you asked. Are you planning to lay the tile on wood subfloor or conrete? Wood is by far the best way to go as the glue will stick better. If its wood then make sure all is clean and dry the use a laytex primer on the wood and let dry. This step is a must as its the primer that will activate the glue and not allow the tile to pop off after install. If its concrete then again make sure you sweep then clean the floor with TSP( very strong chemical wear gloves) this will get all the junk that maybe on the concrete ie oil, dirt, paint, wax you name it. alolow to dry then install the tiles. If onto vinyl then use the TSP again and then put an embosser levelor on top of the existing vinyl floor as this will create a smooth floor and not allow your old vinyl pattern to show through you new tiles. the final step I like to use is a rolling pin over the tiles to make sure the glue is biting into the floor well.
Q: Please don't say wood/tile please say wood/tile is cheaper so I know exactly what you mean, lol. Does it depend on what kind of wood? I assume it does..For just the first floor, 1,040 sq. ft. THANKS!
Tiles are generally cheaper than wood. However, some tiles are more expensive and some wood floors are cheaper (like laminate). Tiles are also colder on feet than wood floors. So paying more for wood is worth it. Plus, wood floors provide elegance to any room, unlike tiles!
Q: we are planning on replacing our livingroom carpet, !/2 of it withceramic tile. Is there any do‘s and don‘ts to consider. Thanks.
With all due respect and not knowing at all your DESIGN, certainly I have suugestions. After installing thousands of sq. ft of tile, and various other flooring I ask that you e mail me. The tile installed may be at some similar level to the tile but needs transition molding, and again without knowing the design; is to to be a DECO thing or a simple carpet butted to tile as in half a space? The installation process isn't so difficult even for a DY, but there are things to consider, I offer all the help, through my experience, I can offer in emailing me... even if I'm not BEST. Q: 80 cm x 80 cm tiles a piece of weight is probably how many kilograms?
Ordinary soil polishing plant is relatively thin, a box is about 90 ... 95 pounds, is more than 30 pounds each piece.
Q: What kind of tiles are suitable for home decoration?
That depends on where you are ready to use? And your home decoration style.
Q: i have just put down adhesive floor tiles in my bathroom, do i now need to use an extra sealant/pvc wash to seal the joins between the tiles as my kids enjoy splashing in the bath and i dont want the floor ( pvc sealed boards ) to lift if water gets in the gaps?
positively, yes, I am aware of the consequences if you don't, from personal experience
