Q: I removed my range hood (switched off the electricity for it first) and there are three wires coming out of the wall. There's a white insulated, black insulated, and totally not insulated copper wire. What is the non-insulated copper wire? When I flip the electricity on, will it have a charge? It was weirdly wrapped around a screw in the box with the wiring...I'm not sure if it was doing anything. Thanks!
The bare wire is ground, perhaps the most important wire because it is there for safety. Sure the hood would have worked with out it but you may have gotten electrocuted if it wasn’t connected. Whenever connecting wires in anything the ground wire must be connected. If the box you are connecting the wires in is metal, not only do you have to connect the ground wire to any other ground wires you also have to connect it to the metal box so that the box is grounded. Otherwise later you may come back and touch the box and get electrocuted. The ground wire is there to ensure the breaker/fuse gets tripped if a hot wire touches any metal part of any appliance that is connect in the circuit. If not it will be like touching a hot wire just by touching the appliance. Hope this helps!
Q: How is the line differ from a neutral and ground wires in a three prong plug?
the bare wire is the ground and goes to the green lug == the black wire goes in the brass screw/lug=== and the white wire then goes in the silver/aluminum looking screw/lug === the purpose of the ground is to act as a safety net to prevent shocks and c
Q: who knows the use of wire mesh? Actually where does the wire mesh be used?
wire okorder
Q: How do I tell which wire is positive and which wire is negative on the door speakers and the rear speakers?
The one with stripe is negative.
Q: I just read an article about a man who was electrocuted by a live overhead wire while trimming a tree. Horrible. My question is I see squirrels running on all the overhead wires. How do they not get electrocuted?
Electrocution happens when electricity finds a way to ground. Squirrels are not grounded so they don't get shocked. Ever watch the Discovery channel? They've shown how the power company works on high voltage lines without shutting the power off. A helicopter hovers next to the power line while a technician reaches out to the power line with a probe. Once contacted the helicopter and the technician are at the same potential voltage so nobody gets shocked. However, during approach they are NOT at the same potential. That's the reason for making contact with he wire with a probe first. So that the technician doesn't take a big hit when he first touches the live wire. So squirrels, birds, rats - anything that can land on the wires doesn't get electrocuted. But if an animal touches the wire AND ground (or another wire), it's all over in a blinding flash. Hope this helps. 'av'a g'day mate. '')
Q: I wanted to ask, im busy installing a new stereo headset for my car, when i replaced the old stereo with the new one, i used the wire harness from the old stereo and joint the wires to the back of new the stereo (which there is another black adapter that goes in the wire harness area on the the new stereo) i did this by connecting the wires from the stereo adapter to the wire harness that connects to the car, although the adapter that connects to the stereo has more wires than the wire harness that connects to the car,( i only connected the wires that were matching such as grey wire to grey wire, grey wire with black strip to grey wire with black strip, and so on, i obviously didn't connect the colours that didn't match to the wire harness wires, although i looked up online and apparently the yellow wire is a power wire, but i don't know where to connect it......if anyone could help, this would be greatly appreciated , i also wanted to ask, would this solve the problem if i buy a new wire harness? Thanks
What kind of car is it? That's important, especially if it's a foreign make because those wires are so weird colored. Typically, yellow or ornage is power, red is memory, and the purple, gray, white, green wires are for the speakers .Black or brown wires are ground. Any blue wires you might come across are mainly just auxiliary signal wires that go to an aftermarket amp and subwoofer setup. Unless you have something like that, those wires can be taped off and forgotten about. Also, when wiring an aftermarket radio to your car, you will need to purchase an adapter harness that plugs into the stock wiring of the car and the wires connect to the radio wire harness correspondingly. I suggest soldering all the necessary wires and sealing them with shrink tube. It's the most solid, most sure way of a good connection without the worry of shorts and disconnections.
Q: i bought a wiring kit off OKorder it was a bullz 4 gauge kit. and i am running a rockford 500.2 n its rated for 700+ watts. so do you think my cheaper wiring kit is affecting performance? should i go snag up some bigger power wire for more power to run through it or is tht not how it wokrs?
if your wire is truly 4 gauge you will have no problems.the problem is some of the 'no name' wire companies over rate their wire.they will sell 6 or 8 gauge wire as 4 gauge. go to a car stereo shop and ask to see a piece of 4 gauge wire. if it way bigger than what you have you may want to upgrade.
Q: Ok, I am having trouble installing a new car radio in my 97' Honda Civic Lx. It's just a basic pioneer cd player.. I matched all the colored wires up and still nothing. My brother had told me something about + - for example do i hook the green stripped wire with a flat green wire? Vice versa.. Help please.. Also If you know of a web site with diagrams?
they make wiring harness adapters where all you do is match the colors and plug them in. yes u do have to match the wires with stripes (i.e. green with stripe to green with stripe) but if you have already done this you may have blown the channels if you have crossed the wrong wires
Q: I think I have heard about flat cable wires?maybe even flat electrical wires.where you can hide them behind a base board.is this true?what are they called/thx
There okorder and didn't see it, but maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. I'm not sure if they still make it.
Q: Can we use pilot wire protection to protect overhead line, and which country use this scheme ?
Pilot wire protection can be used anytime anywhere. The question is not where it is used but why, and is it required. Pilot wire protection provides better discrimination of fault location, than, say, an impedance or distance relay. If the zones are too close, pilot wire may be the only feasible solution. .
