- The real answer is rather complicated, but basically, light is made of of particles of energy. These particles are unlike the physical particles you are familiar with, in that they have no size, and do not have any mass or weight. These particles can sometimes behave remarkably like waves, and while we can predict what these particles can do with really immense and totally reliable precision, we do not have a sensible conceptual model for what light really is. That means, there is no simple picture or story or explanation one can give you. Light always moves at the speed of light. You ask why, and we can only say that that is the way light is. It is, you could say, the way we found the universe. When a light source is turned on, these particles of light - called photons are emitted by the electrons of the atoms and molecules in the filament or phosphors or LEDs or lasers. The photons then travel away at the speed of light. Because they have no mass, it takes them zero time to get to that speed. Really, this is a big subject, so I will end here. Perhaps other respondents will say more.

- Hey Marie.....light travels in wavelegnths much like the waves of an ocean travelling to the shore. When something interrupts or alters the course of these wavelegnths (such as light travelling through a prism) then these wavelengths (ripples) must do a detour and this is called refraction (not to be confused with reflection). It is the same reason that we sometimes see a rainbow in different mediums. Each waverlegnth of light actually has a corresponding color to it.....hence the rainbow. A Frenchman named Fresnel figured out some fancy mathematical equations to explain all of this and when you see an old lighthouse up close you will see the fresnel lens that it supports. It uses this theory so as to take a small light source indide if it (such as an old whale oil lamp) and then magnify and refract the light into a seemingly brighter appearance. Light can bend (refract) and when it does this then corresponding colors appear due to a change in wavelegnth (it makes a detour) and the intensity of the light may appear greater or smaller.

- Tail light and brake light are two separate lights... Either the brake bulb is a dual filament serving as your tail light also. Your brake light us just burnt out, a few dollars at wal mart or a parts store will get you going again.

- I use 2 450 watt sodium halide and 2 400 watt metal halide and together the work great. The lights were not cheap but I got them on craigslist. 2 totally different light spectrum's but together produce awesome plants.

- Q: the two lights on the bottom. do they add alot of light or for cornering.thx
- Fog lights are generally for FOG and must only be used in appropriate conditions. In visibility of less than 100 yards (meters), one may use front fog lights. Of course, they are called fog lights because rarely does your visibility drop to such a dangerous level in normal rain or snow like it can in fog. The two at the bottom can be used anytime as long as they are white in color.
- Q: Why do light colors reflect more light than darker colors?I already know that white absorbs less colors therefore reflects more and black, its the oppositeBut my teacher is asking WHY its like that? Why does it work that way? Anybody know?
- The darker a color is, the more black is mixed into the color. When you look a red apple, you see red because when light hits the apple, all the colors except for red get absorbed and only the red color is bounced back from the apple into your eyes. So you only see red coming from the apple. Black in essence is a color that does not reflect any light. So when you see something black you are not seeing any colored light bounce back from it; on the other hand white objects reflect all the colors back because white is a combination of all the colors of light. Dark colors then, since they have more black in them than white, will absorb more colors, and lighter colors, since they have white, will reflect more.
