- the brake light bulbs use dual filaments one lights up for running lights and then the other lights up for brake lights (thats why it gets brighter) if a fuse was bad all the brake lights would not work. i would pull out the bulb and switch it with a known good from the other side, if it lights up then buy a bulb and replace the bad one.
