Q: How is light transmitted? How is light scattered?
interaction of light with matter--Transmission,Reflection,Refracti... Emission, scattering. Although light can travel through a vacuum, it can not travel through all objects. When light strikes an object, it can be transmitted, reflected or absorbed. The object is made of molecules, and each molecule has electrons, capable of jumping to higher energy levels by absorbing energy.Light passing through an object is called transmitted light. A light packet has a certain amount of energy in it according to its frequency-- the higher the frequency, the more energy. If this energy corresponds to one of the electron energy levels, the electron will absorb it and re-emit it as heat. Transparent materials, however, do not absorb the energy of the photon. Since the photon is not absorbed, it is able to pass straight through. Some materials are partially transparent, absorbing some photons and transmitting others. This will make the material look tinted, since it only passes certain colors of light. Scattering is a general physical process where some forms of radiation, such as light, sound, or moving particles, are forced to deviate from a straight trajectory by one or more localized non-uniformities in the medium through which they pass.
Q: And How long is a light year?

Q: artifcial light ornatural light
If articifial light is used properly and you use grow lights (which emit light in the spectrum plants need most) a plant cannot tell the difference between photons coming from the sun or from a tube or bulb. Outdoors a plant might do better but it's not necessarily because of the light. They may get better temperatures or fresher air or proper moisture, etc.
Q: I got this $1 strobe light from a friend. What is it??
A strobe light is like a camera flash. It uses an electric discharge to create a bright, very fast, flash of light. Wikipedia says: A typical commercial strobe light has a flash energy in the region of 10 to 150 joules, and discharge times as short as a few milliseconds, often resulting in a flash power of several kilowatts. Larger strobe lights can be used in “continuous” mode, producing extremely intense illumination. The light source is commonly a xenon flash lamp, which has a complex spectrum and a colour temperature of approximately 5,600 kelvins. In order to obtain coloured light, coloured gels must be used.
Q: I've been looking for a brief description on what light attenuation in water is. Please help!
Light is absorbed as it travels through water, so that less and less light is present the deeper one goes. The process of light intensity being reduced is called attenuation.
Q: Question: state two requirements for two light sources to be coherent?
Coherent light is a light in which the electromagnetic waves maintain a fixed and predictable phase relationship with each other over a period of time.
Q: The one they use to find dirt and stuff left behind like that blue light.
a black light Black Light Stain Detector (Commercial Grade) Professional Ultraviolet Inspection Light Applications Hotel / Motel House Keeping Hospital House Keeping Restaurant Cleaning Food Safety Applications Lab Safety Environments Pet Stains Auto Detailing Gemstone Authensity Art Collectors Antique Verification Law Enforcement Banks
Q: I have a couple questions regarding black lights. First off, are black lights bad for you your eyes? Also, if black lights emit UV rays, could you get a tan from them?
Blacklights don't give off any more UV than a regular flourescent light. While you could get a tan from them, it will take a reeeaaaalllly long time. They are bad for your eyes though. In normal light your pupils dialate to let in only a little bit of light. this protects your eyes from the UV rays. With black lights since don't give off a lot of visible light, your pupils stay wide open, and lots of UV gets in.
Q: my lighter wont light, i have lighter fluid in there and its new so the flint is goodis there a select type of fluid i have to use?
there is lighter fluid for making fires for cooking outside and there is lighter fluid (usually smaller can) for putting in lighter fluid for Zippo type lighters. Yes they are different so please be careful and don't try lighting Zippo until you find out which one you have.
Q: The index of refraction for red light in water is 1.331, and that for blue light is 1.340. If a ray of white light enters the water at an angle of incidence of 83 degrees, what are the underwater angles of refraction for the blue and red components of the light?
Light: Check out the link below. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search For other senses of this word, see light (disambiguation). Prism splitting lightLight is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength that is visible to the eye (visible light) or, in a technical or scientific context, electromagnetic radiation of any wavelength[1]. The elementary particle that defines light is the photon. The three basic dimensions of light (i.e., all electromagnetic radiation) are: Intensity, or alternatively amplitude, which is related to the perception of brightness of the light, Frequency, or alternatively wavelength, perceived by humans as the color of the light, and Polarization (angle of vibration), which is only weakly perceptible by humans under ordinary circumstances. Due to the wave-particle duality of matter, light simultaneously exhibits properties of both waves and particles. The precise nature of light is one of the key questions of modern physics.
