- Q: We are getting the carpet throughout the house redone. We had planned on a high quality laminate, but apparently our floors slope too much for that. Now we have to go with carpet. I fear a berber throughout will look too industrial, not homey enough. My husband feels like flush style looks like apartments he had in the 70s. The carpet salesman is recommending the same carpet in the whole 3 floor house. We have spill-prone kids, but no pets. any recommendations? we want it to look nice, but don't really know where to go from here.
- My sister did berber throughout her house, accenting w/some area rugs also, .it held ok, not too high on luxury (not really fluffy) but it was harder for the kids to ruin it. I know that Scotch Guard is her best friend and she actually used to re-spray the carpet 1x/yr for extra support in higher traffic areas - I'm guessing its cheaper to go with the same carpet throughout but maybe they will let you change the hue of the color to break it up - or see if the one you like can take scotch guarding Hope this helps :)

- you can buy a tar remover from any janitorial supply store. this easily removes tar but I would rent a steam machine to clean the carpet and work on the stain or just call a cleaning company to come in and do this for you.

- White does seem to go with everything, but I am sure you have other furniture, comforter, lamps, various accessories, knick-knacks etc. that you are working with and I would also include them in your decision as far as the carpet color.
- Q: For now, I have carpet just lay on top of the the old low carpet that the mobile home came with. it is sort of quick fix so cleaning is easier and the walking feel better. Is it okay to do that? The old low carpet underneath is ugly and have dirty feel to it, but I don't know if I should pull it up and replace the floor with vinyl flooring? My kitchen came with the vinyl flooring so I figure it is okay to pull the old carpet up and install it? - Yes, I worked in a carpet store for 8 years and what we told customers is to have it loose laid meaning get a roll that doesn't need seaming and can go right under the molding around the walls if you don't want the carpet tacks to mess up the wood. If you're not concerned about that then just have it laid over the floors. Best wishes
