- Q: The previous owner placed VCT tiles on beautiful hardwood floors. - 4 x 4 = 16 divide by 4098 Then figure out if you have to buy a whole box or a 1/2 is ok for the remainder. Also you have to allow for grout. Figuring 1/8 so add 1/16 per tile. So your figure is really 4.0625 x 4.0625 or 16.5 divided by 4098 249 *******Hmmm Clayton.....9 per sq foot silly and you didn't deduct for the tub. Altho getting some for breakage is smart.

- I'll stick my head out and say no that does not contain asbestos, it is a standard 600x600 mineral tile which you can still buy now. I am an asbestos consultant with 10 years experience and that type of tile would not usually be tested as it is well known not to contain asbestos. Ignore the answer which says take to a hardware store, if you ever did that with an asbestos ceiling tile you would probably end up causing yourself massive problems and exposing people.
- Q: we layed tile after hurricane katrina whats the protocal about if you should tile the whole house with the same color tile my 10 yr old wants different tile then we layed in the bedroom. Does this effect the value of your home or does it matter?
- you could certainly vary colors in closed off rooms like a bedroom or bath or two, but i would still stick to something not too outlandish, because too distinctive a color could turn someone off in the future, and tile, unlike carpet, is a real pain to rip out. p.s. there are some things about which it is not wise to give a 10 year old free choice...this may be one of them...try to find other ways to brighten up and decorate the child's room without committing to too different a color on the floor. p.p.s. congrats on your choice of hard flooring...it is so much cleaner and healthier than carpeting

- If you are just concerned about removing the tiles, and don't care if they are damaged during the removal, then chisel and hammer would work. However! If you are trying to keep those old tiles in tact, it's a much more difficult process. Secondly, you said the walls were plaster (and lathe behind that?) Once those walls are compromised, it's a lot of work to re-plaster. Other options: 1. Call a company who resurfaces old tiles with another colored ceramic coating, 2) Cut out those sections of walls and install other materials, like granite, abbatibi (sp?) , fiberglass sections, or 3) pull down the old walls, put up new greenboard and re-tile with the tiles of your choice. If you want an excellent result, I'd go with the third choice, but it is A LOT of work. A few weeks if you are working part time and really know what you are doing. If it's not really important to have it last for say, more than 7 years, I'd just have a company re-coat the tile. It'll take them 1-4 days and will cost equal to or less than the other options. - You can buy a ceramic edge in the same color or you can sometimes get tiles with a rounded edge on them. Make sure you get more tiles then you need cause if you go back to get more the color may be off some.

- Pretty much anything goes with white. Personally, for longevity, I would go with a soft sage green or gray-green tile or you might try the new glass tiles that have great shapes. Another great look would be a black and white pattern.
