Q: We want to put up kitchen tile for our back splash. I would like to put the squares on diagonally but my husband is concerned about the difficulty of all of the cuts. I need some DYI help. Please only serious replies, no jokesters
If your husband is concerned because of the cuts, it ll depend a lot on what type of tile your working with.. A soft bodied tile that is self spacing. The kind that has little lugs on them and fit together fairly tight, these are easy to do.A little more challenging if they require a spacer. If you use a mastic, the tiles will stay pretty much in place when you set them and then place a small spacer in the joint. If you know or when you know what type your installing e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. I ll help you along and give you pointers.. GL
Q: I took off all the old flooring in the bathroom and whats left is wood (plywood), can I tile directly onto the plywood or do I need to set something down first?
i could advise paying a contractor simply by fact there are a number of stuff that would bypass incorrect. ...sub floor has bounce, so tiles do no longer stay down, grout cracks, putting a rest room over tiles (you may desire to enhance the bathroom, and reset it after the tiles are laid. you will additionally might desire to diminish the tiles around the ABS and which would be somewhat complicated too.) then the bathroom can nonetheless leak inflicting injury. yet once you're a superb DIYer, then bypass to domicile Depot or Rona and take a seminar.
Q: I want to lay ceramic tile in the entry way of my townhome. It‘s about 80 sq ft. The house originally came with a generic white vinyl flooring that I swear is officially a part of the concrete slab it lays on. Because it is so firmly attached (no bubbles, no visible defects of any kind) would it be possible to lay the ceramic tiles over the vinyl? I honestly think it‘s going to take more time to rip up that flooring (and the glue that keeps it down) than it will laying the tile. Thoughts? Thanks!
Go to a Tile Store. They now have Ceramic Tile which can be put on top of other flooring as long as the floor is level. Some of these Tiles can be snapped together. No Mud, no Grout. They look wonderful.

Q: Do I start in the middle like normal tile? What happens if I don‘t start in the middle due to the uneven wall?
First, are you sure you want peel and stick tile? Unless they are being installed in a room with little traffic, I have always found they don't last as long as glued down tile. If this is what you want though, here it goes. You don't have to start in the middle of the room. A suggestion is to start in front of your cabinets if doing a kitchen. rooms are not always square, this will assure good straight lines were you would notice the most. If you don't start with the cabinets and use another wall, it may be straight with the wall but look crooked with the cabinets. Next peel the backing, and place tile tightly next to each other. You will need a utility knife to cut the tile next to the wall, and around other objects. for tough cuts, heating the back of the tile with a hair dryer will make it easier to cut. Then I highly recommend renting a floor roller, 80# should do it. The floor roller will assure all tiles are pressed firmly to the floor. roll the roller in one direction across the floor, and then again in the opposite direction.;..
Q: my bathtub tile peice just fell out and i am wondering what material i should use with it to put it back into place. Any ideas?
Yes!! Scrape as much of the old glue away from the wall since anything you add will make the tile stick out farther than it did before. Next let it dry if its wet. Than apply some loctite adhesive to the back of the tile. Push the tile in until it is flush with the other tile. About four good size lines of glue will do it. Around the edges and then 4 vertical lines. This will allow the glue to expand and not hold the tile out. Wipe off any extra glue now . It hard to get off later. Let dry over night and than buy a matching grout to finish the job, Follow the instruction on the box. Good luck
Q: Recently want to decorate the house, in addition to the location of the two bedrooms have to shop porcelain, ask the tiles below can be installed to warm it? Will the heating effect be discounted? Can you install the bathroom in the bedroom and warm in another room? How much will the ground increase after loading Thank you first!
Can be installed, to warm the tile tile heat transfer effect is better than strengthening the floor, the best are installed to warm, increased by 60mm or so.
Q: The hammer took a chip out of one tile, the chip is about the size of a pencil eraser. I‘m just heartbroken as we just had this tile installed 12 days ago! Is there any way to fix this- short of replacing the tile? I‘ve already bought a rug that will cover the hole but I‘d still like to fix it if I can. Just in case we ever would like to go without a rug. Thank you!!!
Got any tiles left over from the job? You can (carefully!) chip the old tile out in pieces with a hammer and a chisel, (VERY carefully!) chip out the grout between the broken tile and the ones next to it. and chip out the cement under the broken tile until you're down to the backer board. Once that's done, clean out all the chips, dust, etc, and chip out the cement that you missed. Clean again, check for still more cement (it's persistent stuff), until the area is clean. Set the spare tile down in the space to make sure it fits OK. It should set below the level of the other tiles. If not, you missed some cement. Go back to step B. Finally, you're ready. Mix some tile cement, dump a glop in the center of the cleared area, spread it around, and use a tile trowel if you have one to spread it and groove the cement. The grooves let you spread the cement and give it some extra area to fasten to the back of the tile. Put the tile in place, wiggle it around and move it until you like where it's sitting, wipe up any cement that oozed up around the sides, and don't walk on it for 2 days. Finally, mix up some grout, spread it into the seams, wipe it off the tiles around the seams, and don't walk on it for another day. Seal the seams, and carry your hammer carefully from now on.
