- Okay. I'm a tile setter, so I am biased, but you will get best results by replacing all the tile. Guy#1 is right, but you need to realize it is just paint (even if its epoxy paint, which is much tougher than standard household latex paint.) It can (will) scratch and (will) scuff. The shine of the new expoxy surface will go away. If you are a meticulous house cleaner and never slide your pots and pans and dishes on the tile counter surface, then you can probably get away with it. So yes, it will work, but may not be a perfect solution, depending on your housekeeping style. Mike PS. I gotta chime in on Guy # 3's comments. He is right in that you can replace the offensive tiles. However, its not so simple, unless you are a good craftsperson. You have to be very, very careful removing the tiles, because you can very easily chip the tiles next to the ones you are removing.as he says, removing the grout is most important. Also, be very gentle with your hammering and chipping away at the old tiles. Its when you try to force it or try to remove too much at a time you run into trouble.
- Q: How can I remove ceramic tiles from a bathroom wall without damage the wall itself, as I want to paint the wall. Would steam help loosen the glue used?
- If the tiles have been there any length of time you are going to have to do some work to the wall before you paint it not matter how you remove the tiles. There isn't much of anything out there that will help you remove them gently. It is most generally a hammer but a stiff putty knife very well may do the trick but like I said...you are still gonna have a lott prep work before painting.
- Q: I need tile removed from my shower
- Start with a key hole saw, and saw all around the out side of the tile, cutting through the dry wall.After all the plumbing covers are removed, you can then start to use a pry bar and work the tile loose from the studs. This will work for tile over dry wall, over a backer board or even a mud job.. Cover the tub well, wear a dust mask and cover all areas for dust protection. Open a window if possible and set a fan there blowing dust out. Use hammer as little as possible to prevent razor sharp chips from flying and wear all safety gear, including long sleeve shirts, eye and ear protection. And most of all have the elbow grease ready. - Q: How to seal new Porcelin Tile
- Porcelain tile is not porous so sealing is not recommended and can make it slippery like a sheet of ice...You can seal the grout in between though.
- Q: I would appreciate a double check on this problem. I believe I‘ve saved myself a lot of cutting, but I just want to make sure. My shower is 59 inches wide. My tile is 4.25 inches wide and tall. (square)My spacers are .25 inches wide. The middle point of my shower 29.5 inches. If I move my center line to the right or left by 2 and 1/8 inches I should be able to cover the entire width with 13 tile IF I allow for a 1/8th inch addition in each corner. Is this correct?
- Ok so ignore your center line it does not matter here your tiles are 4.25, your grout lines are .25 and you are trying to get the tile and grout lines into a space that is 59 so if you take 13 tiles you get 55.25 for those tiles you will have 12 standard .25 grout lines totaling 3 giving you a total of 58.25 now from here what I would do instead of adding grout line and caulking on each end is form an L with the next wall (assuming you have 3 walls to tile to enclose the shower) because a standard wall tile is about .25 thick this would give you an 1/8 bead of caulk in each corner. Make sense?
