Q:I just installed a backsplash in my kitchen. It is glass mosaics with slate - 1x1. Today I began grouting and after it sat for 2 hours ( as instructed) I began wiping it down with a wet sponge. The ceilings are usually suspended from pretty strong wire. Find where that wire or other support is and you know where the strong point of the suspended part is. If it's acoustic tiles over a solid surface, you have to find a structural part inside the ceiling. A stud finder will come in handy for that but unfortunately you'll have to make a hole in the tiled surface to hang anything.

Strike a cross from corner to corner of this square to get a center point. You don't want slivers of tile cuts at the walls or door opening so you want to manage the center point around these areas. Allowing for larger grout joints can help you with this issue as well though larger grout joints just make for more sanitary issues in a bath floor.

For example: if your tiles are fastened to the roof with mortar only, and no mechanical fasteners, the mortar begins to seperate at some point, and during a storm you might produce deadly projectiles of tile from your roof. There may be underlying conditions of poor flashing and/or rotted wood that are not visible to you, but can cause big problems. I know an awful lot of people that are scrapping the aging tile roof in favor of shingles for matters of soundness, safety and cost.
