- Q: i have the material that is needed to tile my home but cannot pay for it to be done so i need information on how to do this
- Go to u-tube and type in tile. Plenty of DIY vids..!
- Q: How to choose the difference between tile types
- 1, glazed tiles Glazed tiles are the bricks of the brick surface treated by glazing. Glazed tiles according to the different materials, divided into ceramic glazed tiles and porcelain glazed tiles. Ceramic glazed tiles are made from clay, with high water absorption and relatively low strength. The main feature is that the back color is red and the porcelain glazed tiles are made from porcelain clay with low water absorption and relatively strong Higher, the main feature is the back of the color is gray. Glazed tiles are the most common brick decoration, not only rich in color, and anti-fouling ability, is widely used in wall and floor decoration.
- Q: I need to tile a kitchen back splash from counter to cabinets. Backerboard at the moment is drywall, textured and painted. I‘d like to hear some opinions on tiling directly over this or using cement backer board. Also thinset or mastic?
- Most thinsets are not recommended for drywall. They won't stick, but a latex modified thinset will. I would use the mastic. If you do go over the drywall it's a good idea to sand it lightly to remove any glossiness from the paint. You also need to degrease the wall. Backerboard is good but not really needed if the drywall is sound and flat.
- Q: My tile is ugly mint green. nothing matches.I would like to know if I can paint this without it looking tacky.
- You should probably go to a tile specialty store and ask them what is available. My guess would be that if something does exist it is not going to look very good. Fiberglass kits are made that can be bonded to the old tile and provide a new surface of a shower stall. These kits are not difficult to install, basically you clean the old tile and then glue the new panel over it. Check with you local home improvement store, they should have them. For a much better look I would suggest going to the home improvement store and taking their free tile classes. This would allow you to lay your own new tile. You will still need to remove the old tile first. Again the home improvement store is where they can tell you how to do this. It's going to be a major demolition requiring you to basically remove and replace your shower walls. This sounds like a lot of work doesn't it... it is but I've learned that doing something right is always better than doing it half way.
- Q: i will be laying tiles o my bathroom floor and i am wondering if HomeDepot or Lowes do the tile cutting. i dont want to purchase the wet saw. i will need to cut tiles for corners and things like that. Thanks.
- Yeah, some of them do. Just go back to the tile section and ask. I know my local Lowe's does. They charge per tile I think. I personally recommend renting a wetsaw or buying a cheap wetsaw. You can buy one for about $50-75 if you buy a cheap one. The reason why I say that is because trying to get the cuts right when you are running back and forth isn't the easiest to do, especially if you have a lot of tiles to cut. There were many times when I did tiling in my kitchen that I needed to adjust how I cut the piece. For the cheap ones, I'd recommend buying a cheap large Rubbermaid container that isn't real tall to set the wetsaw in. It makes cleaning up a lot easier. If you have only a very few tiles to cut, then it might be better to have Lowe's or Home Depot cut them. The manual tile cutters work ok as long as you don't have to work on small tiles or very thick tiles. For my kitchen I had small thick tiles, so using a manual tile cutter didn't make sense. Manual tile cutters don't really cut the tile. They score the tile then break it. That's why thick small tiles work poorly on them. Manual tile cutters tend to work better for large or thin tiles like floor tiles or bathroom wall tiles like porcelain tiles. If the floor tiles are large floor tiles the manual tile cutter/breaker would be your best/cheapest option.
- Q: looikng to get a large hall way and medium kitchen floor done been quoted 1100 with fitting for a good quality laminate tile effect would actual tiles be much more or maybe even less due to the undlay needed with a laminate?
- Actual tile will cost less ( than that of a good laminate) but the tile labor is double ( +-) that of laminate installation.Plus the prep materials needed for ceramic is triple ( or more ) than just the plain under layment of laminate. So on the average tile and laminate installation the tile is about double that of laminate by the time you get all materials and labor. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
- Q: I‘m having linoleum put in my kitchen and I‘m want to prep the floor. We already tore the carpet up and we weren‘t sure if we should clean the carpet adhesive off the ceramic tiles, or remove the tiles from the concrete.
- You are better off ripping out the tiles first. If you really want to lay the hardwood over the tiles, first lay down 3/4 plywood so you have something to staple the new floor to. The ply is glued down with PL, and then screwed into the tiles/sub floor. You will need to pre drill with a masonary bit, and screw in every 12 inches. Seems like more work than ripping the tiles out. And adds an extra 3/4 + tile height + hardwood - how will that transition to other rooms for other information you can check my source site
