- Q:Am I able to Lay down Ceramic/Porcelain Tiles directly on top of vinyl tiles. If So are there special material that I need to use.Even though the floor is in the basement, it seems that the vinyl is laid over wood, rather than concerete.Thanks for your answer.
- After installing thousands of sq. ft. of tile I'll answer YES to the specific Q,,, however I'd never put my name on the job. Given that the customer is always right,,, even when they aren't,,, I'd refuse to take the job under those conditions. The vinyl is an easy tear out really,,, and well worth the time and energy. The substrate may be wood, allowing that vinyl,,,especially self stick,,, wouldn't,,, on concrete. Vinyl by its nature isn't porous/absorbent, and will not strictly accept adherance by thin set, used to install ceramic tile. Certainly another way to achieve what you want is add substrate over the existing floor,,, using concrete backer board, then tiling over that. No offense but you don't state any experience of skill in the area you question. It's not Rocket Science, but any decent, long lasting job takes some knowledge and skill. Rev. Steven
- Q:I am really sick of my tile backsplash. It's small white tiles. Is there an easier and less expensive way to cover them up instead of removing them?
- there are so many choices you can go with the 1st suggestion but remember the depth of your outlets and switches will be much deeper or you can have a section of the old tile removed (like in a 4strip ) and put some glasstiles in that section to update your look -you can also remove random tiles and insert new ones in place or what i recently did for a client was to cover the tile backsplash with stainless steel sheets they also do sell an epoxy to cover them with to change the color

Other than that, I would go to my nearest big flooring chain and ask to speak to one of the installers. Chances are you will run into one that has his own inventory and be more than happy to sell it to you.
- Q:I bought tile effect laminate flooring for my kitchen. How do I stagger the joints, but line the grout seems up at the same time? There are four equal tiles per a plank.
- The tiles should be the same size or in a pattern such that you can off set the joints and still have the tilegrout lines still line up. Or some of them you can both off set the joints and do a offset or brick pattern in the laminate itself. This type of laminate you ll need more than normal scrap because you will scrap more out on this type of laminate. - you need to call a roofing supplier/ wholesale house. you wont get 1 tile, youll have to buy a stack, and its not expensive, if they have them in stock and if they will sell 1 bundle. you can also call your local contractors and ask them, give your tile style and color, like s or w or pots and pans, etc. its probably time to have some maintenance done to your roof anyway. i am a roofer. what they dont tell you when they sell you a lifetime product like slate or tile, is it still needs maintenance or it is going to leak. also dont know if you know or not, but never try to walk that tile, you dont know how, and you will leave a trail of broken tiles behind you.

- When you say on the fireplace, I assume you mean the face of it. Without seeing it , it's hard to tell. I can only suspect that you used too much water in the mix, causing it to be weak. Or possibly the heat from the fireplace is expanding the tiles and causing the grout to pop out.

- The simplest is the knock, listen to crisp loud and better, with the porcelain similar; can also try the water, take a one-time cups pouring water on the tiles, the more slowly the better description of the better texture
