- Q: would like my cory tile to shine without being slippery. What products work best without streaking like crazy ??
- Quarry tile is not meant to shine . It s quality as a tile is its slip resistance. This is why its spect out in the use in restaurants and bar areas where water is present a lot. There are cleaners that you use to keep it clean but adding a product to make it shine will take away its main anti slip properties and make is slippery when wet.. Any other questions you can e amil me through my avatar and check my qualifications there.. GL
- Q: How many pieces of a tiles are there in general?
- Look at the specifications! General 600 * 600 4 pieces 800 * 800 3 pieces, some thick brick 2 pieces
- Q: i need about 100 tiles to complete kitchen I would like a decent quality and design any suggestions???east MI area
- Assuming you want ceramic tile, your bigger concern is installing it correctly then getting a better quality. You pay more for the style of the tile or if you get a natural stone tile. If you are not to particular about what you want then you should be able to get a remnant. May be even put 2 remnants together and make a pattern. Pinwheel pattern is one of my favorites. I would suggest going to the local flooring stores and checking out there rems and go to the ones that have designers for sales people. They offer a lot of design ideas free of charge.
- Q: We have ceramic tile on the wall in the bathroom with a few tiles of color. Hate to change whole bathroom.
- I don't know much about tile. But I've taken a few ceramic classes And I know when you glaze you have to put it in a Fire Kiln. To even activate the glaze. And I was taught if you missed a spot, and was to put more glaze on and fire it again, it could crack or burn the ceramic. I don't know how this works on tile though. (they come already fired from the factory don't they?) Maybe you could remove the current glaze somehow? And then do a glossy paint. Because if tile is anything like ceramics you'd have to take it off the wall and fire it again. Sorry I don't know anything about tile.
- Q: My husband and I just purchased our first house and we are pretty much tapped out for now. We dont have alot of money to remodel but enough to make some temporary improvements until next spring. All of our families are coming for the holidays and I want to spruce up our house. My biggest problem both of our bathrooms floors they are bad looking. I want to put peel and stick tile down but not sure how to measure for it. I want to do this today while my hubby is at work so I can surprise him. Im working on the master bath first its not that big, its only 5 feet by 5 inches long and 5 feet by 3 inches wide. How much peel and stick would I need? I have already cleaned the floors very well, what other tools do i need to get?
- Most tile packs give an area coverage guide ,this site will give you a visual instruction of how to lay etc hope it helps, also times the length by the width to get the area 28'6 You will only need a stanley knife and a straight edge to cut self adhesive tiles
- Q: I am having carpet professionally install, but would like to tile my dinning area. Should I install the tiles first? And how should I leave the transition area of the tile?
- Tile first yes. This way you can install the appropriate size (thickness) cement-board, tile, and schluter to match the height of the carpet w/pad. Not to mention the mess.... The transition is up to you. I like everything to be as close to one level as possible, no tripping hazards. You should go with a schluter for a transition. Install the tile to the middle of the archway, AND (considering carpet comes in 12, 15' widths) extend the transition to the back-side of the archway if it helps your situation any. Dont forget to center your tiles, or alighn your pattern for a full tile on the schluter... if possible.
- Q: I‘m installing 13 x 13 cermic tiles. We‘ve laid the tile to try to configure the best layout. However, the one with the best layout with the easiests cuts leaves one very complicated one. The tile lies directly on the air duct, with the cut being a large rectangular hole in the middle of the tile. If we adjusted the layout to have 2 tiles lay over the duct, it creates more complicated cuts everywhere else. How do you suggest I cut this tile?We have only a wet tile saw.
- Get a ceramic tile drill bit and a coping saw with a diamond encrusted blade. Drill a hole in the tile. Slip the coping saw blade through the hole and attach it to the saw. Cut out the rectangle for the air vent.
- Q: I have a pistol grip glass cutter with a carbide cutting wheel....can this be used to cut ceramic tile, or am I better off to get tile nippers?
- It really depends on the tile. All tile cuts differently. The width of your cut even makes a difference. You basically have to test your tile to find out. Most tile cuts easily. Tiles from Italy and Brazil can be a nightmare requiring slow water cuts. A set of hand nippers is a must.....to clean cuts and make inside corners......as well as cuts for plumbing and electrical. Shop around.....there are some single use tile tools available on the market.
- Q: Following on from my previous question about tiles... I had asked if it's better to remove them or tile over the top. At that time, I thought they were bedded in the same stuff as the bathroom tiles were upstairs which was a very fine and compacted sandy stuff that was not set. However, after trying to remove a couple of the mosaic floor tiles in the kitchen, it seems they are bedded in the actual concrete floor itself !!! and instead of being able to remove them, it just chips the tile and breaks off the surface somewhat. They're extremely difficult to remove so: Will my new tiles be completely ok if set on top of these? can you please let me know how to prepare them and what to look out for?Height-wise it doesn't matter, I'll simply order shorter doors. I'm really concerned about the long term strength because it's a kitchen that will get a lot of use / humidity/ etc...Thank you
- looks like a serious problem...but u cannot tile over tiles-they will cause slipping and the fresh tiles will never set. best-use a really heavy tool to break the tiles and sewwp off the chips... then overlay with a finishing smooth layer of concrete and embed ur new tiles in it
- Q: never installed it before i am putting in mold free dry wall and new fixtures. want to put up tile instead of a surround wondering how hard it is to do thanks
- It's not really a DIY project unless you have some skills as a craftsman. You don't want to use drywall behind the tile it will rot. Use a cement backerboard. The pan and bedding mortar on the floor is the hardest part. If you have a prefab vikryl pan maybe not so hard. You can use the mold free drywall above the tile if youre not going to the ceiling.
