Q: I am redoing my basement and am wondeirng what is the best way to insulate the basement ceiling, mainly to cut down on noise. My house is fairly old and the hardwood floors we have upstairs creak very loudly when you walk on them, and can be heard through the basement. Would fiberglass insulation work to cut down on footstep noise? If i put two layers in the ceiling would that be better? Or if I carpet upstairs would that muffle the sound?
We have carpet and insulation and it is still loud. Actually fixing the squeaks did more good than any of it. Try and find the worst floor boards, nail them down to the joist. We could never get them all. Good Luck
Q: Hello, our house has a big crack in the ceiling running from on wall to the other ( only about 3 feet cause its a entrance way) and I was wondering if there is anyway to fix it properly? We will be selling the home in a year and don't want it to scare anyone off BUT also don't want to just paint over it ( may get sued for concealing a problem). Any ideas or thoughts? Are we screwed and may have to leave it and the house won't sell as fast?:(
All houses settle - sometimes the contractors screw up and the rock is not attached well causing a seam to sag. Or maybe there is a leak from overhead plumbing. In any case it is not expensive to rip a small section of wall down inspect the area and put new sheetrock up. I strongly suggest you do this not only for your own peace of mind but cosmetically. Then fix the area and plaster and paint.
Q: What are the characteristics of the use of fiberglass ceilings?
It is characterized by high temperature, good flatness, smooth surface, no pits, thickness tolerance over the standard.
Q: When I moved into my house the ceiling was cracked from the ceiling fan out to the walls in two directions. I don't want to put new wall board up and repairing the crack is not possible according to my Husband. What are some ways to cover the ceiling up?
Get some plaster or drywall mud and fill it in. It won't fix the problem but it will get rid of the crack. Paint over it and be done with it.
Q: Plywood on the first scraping ash, and then scraping 821 putty sticky prison it?
Wood joint processing. Construction of the base surface according to the actual situation to determine whether to spray observation, ceilings are wooden ceiling, to use plate (ceilings) filling agent for caulking, with kraft paper or fiberglass mesh covered flattened, filling agent dry into the process
Q: What is the idea of interior design?
Interior design is sensory design, it is a visual beauty, giving a comfortable feeling.
Q: My studio apartment doesn't have an attic. A lot of the installation videos and articles I read online are about installing foil insulation a couple inches below the roof and above the room's ceiling. Does it matter if I install it under the ceiling (that is, the foil barrier is visible to me when inside the apartment)?Aesthetics isn't an issue. I don't mind seeing the foil. I just want to know if I can still achieve the same results whether or not I install above the ceiling. Thanks!
The foil would only radiate visible light back toward you, and fiberglass insulation ( or rigid polyisocyanurate panels covered with drywall) would create a barrier to keep the heat in your room. If just foil worked, you would assume no one would bother with installing 10 thick fiberglass to achieve an R-38 rating and spend thousands of dollars if a couple hundred of foil would do it.
