Q:Hi Y/A, I have to repair some old ugly seams that have been patched badly, painted over twice and are now cracking as well, you know, where rooms are divided at the ceiling? What's the best way to clean those up without knocking them out and doing it <right> over? I have one, fairly long one..5 ft.
Cut old tape and mud out. You can use either sticky mesh tape, or paper tape. Mesh tape goes down before mud, paper after skim coat of mud. Soak paper tape in water before use to prevent pealing. Try to make mud as smooth as possible, to reduce sanding. 3 coats, sanding between coats, or until smooth.
Q:We had our carpets removed a while ago and installed laminate flooring instead. As a result, the house is not as warm as it used to be.Will it help if I add R13 insulation in the basement ceiling ? Will it keep the living room floor (which is just above the basement) warmer ?On the same manner, will adding another layer of insulation to the attic help in the winter and summer as well ?As for the mositure barrier paper, if I understand correctly, it should be facing up both cases, right ?
Paper faces the conditioned space. Adding insulation always helps.
Q:What are the characteristics of the use of fiberglass ceilings?
I have a voice, because my home is the Jiangsu Sanxian Architectural Acoustics System Co., Ltd. production of fiberglass ceiling
Q:I'm looking to move into a new apartment by the end of the month. It's in a good location, however the only down side is that the neighbors upstairs have kids and they run a day care during the day. Luckily I work and won't be home until 5:30 or so, but just by visiting the place today I could hear them walking upstairs and I'm sure that it's going to annoy me.I would like to know if anybody has any ideas on how to noise proof my ceiling for a reasonable price. Is there some kind of paint that effectively noise proofs walls and such, or would I have to wreck the ceiling and place fiberglass or something of the sort in order to ensure that I don't hear them walking or they don't hear me playing loud music and such.Any help is appreciated, thanks!
This will cost you a little bit and I suppose you'd have to get permission from the landlord, but you can buy ceiling covering that comes in larger pieces but has a design in relief so that it will look like many smaller tiles. You use a caulk gun to put adhesive on the back of the section in strategic places, and then you just press it up onto your ceiling...just start at one corner and go all the way to the opposite one and then go back and start another row...remember to 'match' the pieces so that the tile lines are even. This is very light weight material but it is has a sort of foam-like core that will indeed give you some sound proofing. Plus, it makes a very regal looking ceiling.
Q:Upstairs noise how can we install sound insulation material can have effect?
A method can be taken in the upstairs to do noise insulation layer, this method can effectively reduce the ground crash sound with the air, and now some domestic real estate developers have been in the construction phase of the floor to do the floor noise treatment.
Q:I'm remodeling a bathroom, and I need to know the best insulation for sound/moisture? Also should I use the regular drywall or the green one on the ceiling?
i have a drop ceiling in my bathroom and use fiberglass plastic coated tiles that give some insulation, are waterproof on the plastic surface and can be (have done this several time) painted after 4/5 years if you so desire or just put new ones in front of the old ones and now the insulation value has doubled. you can keep doing that till they're 3 deep. you can buy them and the tracks that they fit in at home depot. a small bathroom would be less than $100.00 to do. you need to keep in mind when doing those ceilings, always find the MIDDLE of the two connecting walls then measure 12 inches on both sides from the middle. that's where you put the runners. NOT IN THE MIDDLE. now the room is divided equally from the two middles. if you don't then one side will be larger than the other. it may not make sense to you, but believe me it's true. there's not a room in my house that i don't have this system. if you ever get a water leak you just clean up the tile or replace it. use a 2x2 system not a 2 x 4. all the tile comes 2 x 4 (actually a little less) find the exact middle and then cut them in half. not a days work involved. putting up the track is more than 1/2 the job. it must be level all the way around and from side to side some of my ceilings i actually have rolled r-19 insulation on top of those tiles. remember armstrong esprite plastic coated tiles NOT CARDBOARD once the cardboard gets wet it needs to be replaced. i'm not sure but i believe i've had this system in the bathroom for about 20 years now, and other parts of the house for over 30 years, you can paint them or buy new ones and replace them. sometimes that's the wiser thing to do. hope that helps you. greenwall is always better for the bathroom.
Q:Second - hand housing renovation need to pay attention to what the problem
For gas pipelines such as dangerous pipes, it is best to ask professionals to detect. New paint wall frequently Diaoqi Why second-hand housing selection of brand-name paint, the new brush wall or frequently drop paint? The reason is that before the paint to play a good foundation, directly to the wall to paint the way is improper, generally have to remove some of the original mottled old paint, and then from the new interface began to paint, including the bottom of the waterproof And so on, the best professional construction personnel, so that better protection of future use of the effect. The socket is too inconvenient to use some friends simply renovated on the found, many electrical appliances can not find the socket, had to buy some of the activities of the outlet, but too many lines tangled together to watch people upset. Modern life, more and more household appliances, the demand for the socket is also increasing, the old house in the design of the socket is often difficult to achieve the current needs of the use. So the decoration may wish to reserve some of the socket, to facilitate future use. Balcony to change the kitchen fumes so as to broaden the use of the area, some homeowners will be closed to the balcony north, into the kitchen, and then the original kitchen made of storage or other uses. But once really live in, you will find that as long as the beginning of cooking, the whole family are smoke flavor. So the balcony to the kitchen to be careful
Q:How to do a good job of tile exhibition hall design
The slope of some non-stick, because sometimes to win and other brick than the vertical, then you can use stone glue to answer the answer can be. Decoration in some of the shape is posted sandstone what, the end is the use of woodworking board base, and then stone glue to sand
Q:How to do a good job on the wall when the level of leveling work
① humidity: ground moisture content should be less than 3% (self-leveling manufacturers require to keep the soil surface dry). Use CCM moisture tester. ② surface hardness: with a sharp chisel fast cross cut the surface, the intersection should not be burst. Use a hardness characterizer. ③ surface flatness: with 2 m ruler test, the gap should not be greater than 2mm. Use the flatness tester.
Q:My A\C and Heater have problems keeping up in Hot\cold weather. Its summer now (I live in the Stl area) and when its 90+ sunny my house will not get colder than 80 degrees A\C going non stop. The A\C is putting out anywhere from 59-62 degrees and from what I can tell is sized properly. In my ceiling is blown in insulation at about 4-5" sitting just above the 2x4s some places more some less. The vaulted ceiling being a little more at around 6" Is this enough? Is my problem the Heating\Cooling unit or is there not enough insulation?
The minimum ceiling insulation should be R-30, with R-40 being the norm in the northern part of the U.S. The depth of insulation required to produce a R-30 depends on the type of insulation. Blown-in fiberglass will have about R-2.25 per inch, blown-in cellulose has about R-3.5 per inch and fiberglass batt has about R-3 per inch. In case you're not sure what type you have, fiberglass insulation looks like cotton candy, while cellulose looks likes ground-up newspaper. Batts are the best to install as there will be less airborne particles to breath, get in your eyes, etc. You just cut them to size and lay them across the ceiling joist so they seal any gaps caused by the ceiling joist, fans, light fixtures, etc.
