Q: We have clutter like the shed, playground and bricks that my mother does not want to remove. Also, we have weeds growing and tons of branches so I don't know what to do. Let alone, my mother keeps on saying landscaping is needed but she very rarely asks for a person to cut the grassand we don't have the budget to cut our two tall trees.
Bundle the branches up and tie them with string, put out with the trash if you confirm your trash removal company accepts yard waste. Once they are gone, a good raking to remove leaves and dead grass using a lawn rake, bag them up and get rid of them. Tidy up the bricks and any loose items you want to keep and stack behind the shed if possible. Once all the yard is clean, look at any high or low spots, get a few bags of topsoil from Home Depot ( $1.29 a bag) , some grass seed, and a small bag of starter fertilizer. The cost should be under $50 for everything. Use the soil in low spots, and then sprinkle the grass seed and starter wherever there is a bald spot and in the new topsoil. Water lightly but often, the idea is to wash the oily covering off the seed, but not wash the seed away. Keep it moist for a week and you will have new grass growing. Follow the directions on the seed package for proper lawn care once up.
Q: Are there any specific books out there, that can help me with timing my garden? So I know when I should plant certain seeds and bulbs to bloom at a certain time (for example, early spring), and then perfectly overlap with other seeds and bulbs that open in the following periods (mid to late spring, summer, etc)I am asking specifically in regards to what seeds are best planted over spring bulbs like tulips, etc. Thanks
There is a link to a book in my source section below. But what you are looking for is succession gardening, so do a web search on that term in quotes. The second link is to a garden plan description on the Better Homes Gardens web site. You will have to register to see the actual plan but they do not spam you.
Q: I know this is the wrong section, but most people frequent this section instead of Home GardenMy fiance and I just bought a house, and almost the entire backyard is covered in ant mounds. We have only had an apartment before, so have never had to buy ant killer and not sure which kind is best. We need it to work really well and really fast. We are moving our dog into the house and she will be using the backyard in two days. So something that won't hurt her would be great, too. If not, we can work around that. I just need to know the best ant killer for the best price. Any help is VERY grealty appreciated!! TIA
amdro (the kind that's tiny yellow pellets), pour it around the mound. Don't use the dumb powder/fertilizer crap it doesn't work. Kill those bastards!
Q: I'm looking to make an easy to maintain container garden using a large Roman-esque pot. I'm looking for some design ideas that include height in the center with a mound and edging flora. Plant choices that include color and/or fragrance would be excellent as well. This container will sit in a semi-shaded area on the front porch in Southern California.
Wow, because you live in So Cal, you have LOTS of choices. A shady location may limit the fragrance plants that will grow well. However, since I can't see exactly what your POT looks like, it is hard to say! Here is what I would suggest: Take your pot to your local plant nursery and have them help you pick out some plants. You can always go to another nursery if you don't like the choices!! Good Luck!!
Q: i am looking for stuff for me and my fiance new apartmentsearsjcpennykholsikea...
jcpenny,Kohl's and ikea do not have a home and garden a garden is where they sell flowers
Q: The subject is mushroom. No, I don't want to know how to smoke them or eat them. I just want to get rid of them. I know that mushrooms comes from having a fungus in my soil. But it's no fun, continuously raking them out and mowing over. They keep coming back. And since the summer heat is approaching, I really want to try and control this fungus before it really gets out of hand. So, are there any tips of keeping the soil conditioned? And can I get rid of mushrooms without damaging my lawn?
The mushrooms rely on moisture. Be sure not to overwater your lawn. Adding lime to your lawn annually will also help control them. You can organically spot treat problem areas with a mixture of 1 part baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to 2 parts water. Or you can purcase a non-organic fungicide that wil be friendlier to your lawn in your local home/garden store.
Q: Did brother Adam take his rib out to barbeque when he came back home from the garden?
it's just rumor
Q: I'm looking for the buckeye candy recipe from he Better Homes Gardens Christmas Cookie publication from 1998. They had a 50-State salute that year, and the buckeye was the recipe for Ohio. If anyone has this, please please post it for me.
Candy Ingredients: 1 stick softened butter 1 3/4 c. (1 18 oz. jar) creamy peanut butter 1 tsp. vanilla About 1 lb. confectioners' sugar Chocolate Coating Ingredients: 1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 tbsp. vegetable shortening Directions: Cream butter, peanut butter, and vanilla together, adding confectioners' sugar until the right consistency is reached. Roll candy into 1-inch balls and place on a wax paper-lined cookie sheet. Melt chips and shortening together in the top of double boiler, and keep the chocolate mixture in the double boiler over low heat while dipping the candy. Using toothpicks, dip each ball into the chocolate mixture, covering 3/4 of candy. Place candy on the cookie sheet to cool. Makes about 8 dozen pieces.
Q: My friend father died and asked that his ashes be spread into the garden of his home. He had cancer and will this pollute this garden? The bible speaks of ashes to ashes and dust to dust, so will this affect the growing of the plants or fruits?
Place the ashes under a rememberance tree.
Q: Does anyone know any home remedies to keep bugs out of my flower/rose garden? I don't know what kind of buds the are BUT they are eating the leaves flowers.
they're probably greenfly, i use a little washing up liquid in a jug with water and tip gently over the leaves, you can also use spent washing-up water. otherwise you could introduce some ladybirds to the leaves which would in turn feed off the bugs and these won't harm the plants, they are the gardeners friends.
