Excavators are used in many ways:
Digging of trenches, holes, foundations
Material handling
Brush cutting with hydraulic attachments
Forestry work
Forestry mulching
Demolition
General grading/landscaping
Mining, especially, but not only open-pit mining
River dredging
Driving piles, in conjunction with a pile driver
Drilling shafts for footings and rock blasting, by use of an auger or
Hydraulic drill attachment
Hydraulic excavator capabilities have expanded far beyond excavation tasks with buckets. With the advent of hydraulic-powered attachments such as a breaker, a grapple or an auger, the excavator is frequently used in many applications other than excavation. Many excavators feature a quick coupler for simplified attachment mounting, increasing the machine's utilization on the jobsite. Excavators are usually employed together with loaders and bulldozers. Most wheeled, compact and some medium-sized (11 to 18-tonne) excavators have a backfill (or dozer) blade. This is a horizontal bulldozer-like blade attached to the undercarriage and is used for levelling and pushing removed material back into a hole.
- Q: More than 1 cubic meters of excavators, what type, brand, origin?
- Carter's 320D will meet your needs. See my profile for details!
- Q: I want to consider digging a hole for the foundation of an addition with crawl space to my home. This hole would have to be at least 4 feet deep for the frost line and would have to be the perimeter of the addition so 40 or more feet depending on how big of an addition. My question is, what are my options for digging this monster hole?I know I can always do the shovel and pickax route. And I know I can rent a mini excavator for about $200 a day from stores. Does anyone have any other inexpensive ways or some creative ideas that I could use to make this job a little easier?
- Try rental places, but you will find costs of $500 a day for a backhoe to do the work with.
- Q: please help
- Open-pit mining (as opposed to underground mining) has several advantages:- 1) Low cost of recovery - large trucks can enter the mine, get filled up with rock from a large excavator and drive away to the processing plant. 2) No need to leave stability pillars, necessary to hold up underground mine workings but which may contain valuable ore that is effectively lost to the mining company. 3) Ease of beneficiation - surface mines are usually composed of materials (oxides in the case of metalliferous mines) that are easier to handle and easier to treat in order to recover their marketable product as a result of being so close to surface. 4) Safer environment - so much less problem of rock falls, hanging wall collapse resulting in a lower injury rate than in underground mine.
- Q: Didn't really know how to word the question. Anyway I want to have the mini excavator delivered to my house and picked up as I don't have a big truck w a trailer.Where I want to dig is about a mile down the road and about 200m from there into some woods on land that I own. The terrain is pretty smooth but its a normal wood floor with lots of sticks leaves etc and can get a little bit hillyWhat I want to know is will I be able to straight up drive the excavator from my driveway to that location and back, or will that be too rough of a drive? And how fast do they drive?Side question, do they come with models with attached headlights as my work may carry into the darkThank you very much
- It's simple to operate. Two hand levers. Push right turn righ, etc. Two foot pedals. Left operates the bucket up and down. Right foot press on toe, dumps bucket, press heal to pick it up. It travels at about 10mph, ride depends on the terrrain and the path you take, and most types have front head lights. Seat belt must be on to start machine. Red button will light if hydrolics are locked, press it to release, Going uphill, you'll feel like it's going to tip over backwards. You'll be fine if the bucket is loaded. Go uphill backwards if the hill is too steep. You'll burn desiel fast. Bring a 5 gallon gas tank for extra.

- Q: why are big construction machines (tractors, dozers, excavators, etc) painted yellow? An overwhelming majority are yellow. Why not red, or some other color?
- Yellow is the universal sign color for caution, also it more visible at night than any other color.
- Q: Excavator three oil one water refers to
- Talking about diesel, oil, hydraulic oil and cooling water
- Q: What are the steps in getting a new structure tied into the cities sewer/water utilities? Do ordinary plumbers do this or do you have to get a specialist to perform this work? Would anyone know what permits are necessary, what is all involved to get this taken care of?
- Yes you will need a plumbing permit, most plumbers will work with an excavator to dig the trench to the sewer. Contact a licensed and insured plumber in your area (ask around for references). They will run a trench from your exisiting drain lines to the sewer and make a connection, same with your water supply lines if needed.

- Q: What can i do to keep the neighbors dogs from digging under the fence! They don't care!?
- Unfortunately you may end up bringing a police report or trying to speak with your neighbors again about the dogs digging in, maybe suggest the shock collar.... you can spray apple bitter all day long, use those toe pads, place rocks under the fence line, and they may find a way to dig in, even when the shock collar battery dies. I own a beagal and he'll dig to china if you let him... 3 times and back. We ended up using a shock collar fence line burried under the fence line to keep him from digging under the fences.
