Q:Our builder is suggesting radiant heat floors and I think though I'd like the warm floors; if we have a problem with it, we would have to tear up tile floors. Anybody had experience with this?
The only downside to radiant heat floors is you can't put down wood floors over it. They are fine as long as you are happy with carpet, tile, laminate or vinyl.
Q:What is the meaning of composite floor speed, how to test
Speed is the number of its wear-resistant layer, that is, the greater the number of revolving wear layer more solid, and now generally meet the floor in 9000 or so, but the best to buy the brand, because some businesses to sell the floor to achieve Turn, the price is very cheap is certainly false, the general price of 9000 to 80-120 yuan between the price of 120-200 or so, hoping to help you!
Q:What is the best type of bambo flooring ?
The company is local to where I live, so I don't know it's availabilty if you live outside the Bay Area. If you are going the DIY route I STRONGLY recommend getting the floating/click installation versus the glue down/nail down product. The floating stuff does cost more (for example, usually starts at about a $1 more a sqaure foot), but renting nailing equipment and buying adhesive is also expensive. We spent about $300 on flooring glue (Bostik's Best) for a 210 sq. foot room. In comparison, foam padding and plastic sheeting for a floating floor of the same size would be around $70. The floating (engineered) pieces are also about 3X the size of the hardwood planks, so that really works out to be about half the time cutting and laying the product. If you are putting bamboo in the kitchen area, you may want to consider a laminate that has a bamboo pattern due to water damage potential. I don't think hardwood is really recommended in the kitchen/bathroom areas. If you are looking for a sustainable option for the kitchen, Forbo Marmoleum(natural linoluem, versus the vinyl sheeting that most homes have) is plant based and carries something like a 40 year warranty. The prices tend to be $4-$6 a square foot, so comparable to bamboo . I recently saw that Armstrong carries a natural linoleum product that I think is suitable for kitchens. I think their website says that is available at Home Depot and Lowe's, among other places.
Q:Can you please compare sea-floor spreading with the formation of mid-ocean ridges?!
When there is hot magma rising from the mantle to the ocean floor, the heat and pressure creates a weakness in the oceanic crust, cracks it, splits it apart, and thus, you have sea-floor spreading. The more magma rising from the mantle, the more the sea-floor spreads. Each time the sea-floor spreads and cools, it forms a ridge on both sides of the crack. If you have multiple events of magma rising, sea-floor spreading, magma cooling to form ridges, then eventually, you form mid-ocean ridges. For example, imagining pushing a rug against a door or wall, the rug crumbles. If you cut the rug in half and push each part of the rug in the opposite direction towards a wall, you're making making a real life mid-house ridge! =)
Q:The floors are brand new laminate floors, only about 2 months old. We just moved in here and our realtor told us to use Orange Glo to make them shiny. Biggest mistake I have ever made. It looked great at first but now the floors look like crap. They are hazy, no longer shiny, and collect dirt like you wouldn't believe. I just now used ammonia, vinegar, baking soda and water to remove the left over wax build up. It helped a little and right after I did that I went over the floors with Bruce laminate cleaner. I thought it worked really well until I walked over the floor and then looked back and saw my foot prints all over the floor. So my question is, why on these newly cleaned floors can you see my foot print where ever I walk and what can I do to stop that? Also, do you have any suggestions on removing the wax buildup? Thanks
Hi, Mit. Yeah, a pox on the rec for Orange Glow. Suggest you find out the flooring manufacturer's recommendations for floor care products (with such a new floor, someone should know who made it). I suspect the Bruce product is OK, just has to be repeated to get more of the residual Orange Glow & etc. We like the Bona line, but there are several good product lines. Persevere.
Q:I am nearing completion of construction for my own new 2 story home. On the 2nd floor, I am planning to install a floating bamboo floor (5/8" stranded type) over gypcrete (lightweight concrete floor poured over radiant in-floor heat tubing. I think I can handle most everything, but I am not certain what the best option(s) is for running the floating floor into the staircase which goes down to the first floor. In the rest of the house, the edge of the floating floor will get covered by baseboard, but at the top step, there is no such option. Does anyone have suggestions as to the best way to deal with this? One more thing - it's tongue and groove and I was planning to glue the boards together. I already have the flooring and there are stairnosings I have with a groove on them which I was planning on assembling with the planks to cover the stairs too.
Call or go to the place where you bought the floor and ask if they have anything to use where the floating floor will meet the step. They might have a piece of molding or something made just for that situation.
Q:MY 2ND BATHROOM FLOOR STICK ON TILES ARMSTRONG TYPE ARE STARTING TO BLEED WATER THROUGH THE CRACKS , WHATS UP
Water has got down the cracks in the tiles and when you stand on the tiles the water is coming back out of the cracks due to any weight put on them.
Q:My house is tan, any floor paint color ideas?
Almost ANY of the above mentioned colors sound great. Maybe use your roof as an inspiration in your color choice. Do you have a unique or different color trim ariund windows, brightly colored shutters, etc? Just about anything will go with tan. It really just depends if you really want attention drawn to it or you just want it to blend in with the scenery.
Q:Does anyone have any ideas or a process they use to clean their laminate floor so it looks good?
I have found that just a good old 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water does a fine job. The cleaning mixes that are sold look nice until you walk on them, and then you see scuff marks like crazy. The vinegar solution does not make scuff marks and is a good cleaner, applied with a sponge mop. Just spray it on as you go.
Q:Is there anything that can be done to reverse the warping of wood floor boards? There is a crawl space..
Nope. The most you can do is to try to warp them to a shape similar to the shape they were once in, but that is near impossible as well as time consuming, and the damage done by the warping isn't going away.
