- Q: There's a nice hole in the carpet that's pretty deep. How do you fix it?
- make the hole in the carpet an even circle and replace it with a piece of carpet from somewhere else in the room under something your not planning to move like a bed dresser t.v etc. You can cut the carpet with a razor blade and glue the piece in to the problem hole with gorilla glue
- Q: I have a Chinese rug and the pile is flat. Is there any way I can improve it.
- 1. Put some ice cubes in a bowl. 2. Place the ice cubes along the dented areas of carpeting or in the spot where a piece of furniture was set. Place cubes about 2 inches apart. (See Tips below. ALWAYS test first, and be especially cautious if you have wood floors under your carpeting.) 3. Let the ice cubes rest on the carpet for several hours or overnight, at least until cubes are completely melted. 4. Allow the carpet to dry completely. 5. Vacuum the carpet in the areas where you set the ice cubes. 6. Carpet fibers should now be returned to their normal upright position. If they're still lying down, fluff them up with your finger tips. 7. Reapply ice cubes if needed. 8. Please read important TIPS below. Tips: 1. ALWAYS test this method first with one ice cube in an inconspicuous spot. Lift carpet corner to see that the water hasn't damaged the under flooring. 2. Be CAREFUL if you have wood floors underneath! Test first to make sure moisture does not damage the wood! 3. DO NOT use this method on hand dyed rugs, antique carpets, delicate or valuable rugs, or on fibers not compatible with water cleaning.
- Q: We have very nice new wood floors. I have a rug and I need to put a carpet pad under it. Is there a particular kind of carpet pad I should use? I'm afraid it will damage the wood floors somehow. I bought a carpet pad that is like a rubbery grid, just afraid to use it!
- NO ... There are special anti slip mats that go under rugs for a couple reasons.. These mats are made to hold the area rug in place and not bunch up and let the rug walk.. These mats also let the wood breathe and won t stain the wood. Regular carpet pad isn t made to do this. Plus the thinnest carpet pad you can get is 1/4 and that , along with a rug can actually be a tripping hazard.. I also don t know what kind of floor you have and there is a possibility that a rubber pad can react w/ certain finishes on wood and and permanitely stain the wood, just a possibility GL
- Q: I have just gotten a large area rug and Ihave put it on a bare floor. Do I need to put something under the rug. It is not slipping or anythhing.
- They have non skid for carpets in the throw rug department at Kmart or Walmart. But you can use extra carpet padding and it improves the cushion of the carpeting a lot. Much more comfy. I just did it for a 5 by 7 in my entry way. It made a huge difference. See if you can get a piece the size you need from a carpet installer. The sponge will actually tape together with duck tape allowing you to use scraps.

- Check out some websites for carpet kits . ITs not putting the carpet in thats the hard part, its removing the seats and consoles and such that takes time. You don't want some hack doing it either.

- I used to work in the flooring industry and I am a dog owner. They used to say that the dogs were attracted to the smell of the glue they used to put the carpet down. Is she chewing at a seam in the room. If not she may be attracted to some other smell in the manufacturing of the carpet or pad itself. You need to try to get her attention off it when she starts to chew. Or like the previous posts find something to spray there that smells or tastes bad.

- Q: Refreshing my memory been a while so wondering how to lay carpet with a seam. Don't have enough carpet so have some extra carpet that looks the same that I need to use so wanting to lay the carpet with a seam so all the carpet will look as one.
- Practice - practice - practice First, the carpet pieces all need the fibers going in the same direction....if you can't do that, it won't matter how skilled you are at seaming a carpet, the piles running different dirctions will stand out. Clean cuts - you need a clean cut along the seam, on BOTH pieces to get them to look good when they are joined. Two kinds of tape - adhesive, and 'carpet' tape (which needs a seaming iron). BEFORE the carpet is stretched for the room, the adjacent pieces of carpet need to be joined. This involves making a straight, clean cut on both edges - this cut should match identically. I achieve this by overlapping the two pieces, and using a straight edge, cut through both layers at once. (You need a VERY sharp blade). Next, apply the seaming tape to the underside of the carpet. I prefer to use the professional grade carpet tape, and I own all the necessary carpet tools to do this. If you do not own them, they can be rented from a local business that rents tools and equipment. I wouldnt make the investment in tools for one room of carpet. If you are using carpet tape, cut it to fit the length of the seam (actually allow it to extend beyond the ends of the seam, for a couple of inches) Plug in the seaming iron, allow it to heat up, and then place it UNDER the carpet, but ON the tape. As the seaming iron heats up the tape, slide it along the length of the seam, pulling the carpet edges together behind it, and press them firmly into the tape. (A roller is handy for this) Do NOT overlap the edges, do NOT allow them to pucker...this is why a good clean cut is so important. Allow the tape to cool, and then you can stretch the carpet and trim it out. Have Fun
