- You r right , i do not advise to flooring vinyl sheet over another because ..Vinyl flooring is destructible, can have snag and rip it , if there's even the slightest void in the subfloor beneath it. With sheet vinyl, eliminating damage requires fusing the surface or patching in new material. Small cuts and scratches can be permanently fused with liquid seam sealer, a clear compound that's available wherever vinyl flooring is sold. Clean the area with a soft cloth that's dipped in lacquer thinner, then squeeze in a thin bead of sealer. After the sealer has dried, the repair will be virtually invisible. For tears or burns, you'll have to cut out the damaged area and glue in a replacement patch; this type of work requires an extra piece of identical flooring and a technique called double cutting ...Now You r ready for new flooring .... - Q: my sister in law has asked me to remove the current tile flooring in her apartment and put a hardwood floor instead. some of the tiles are cracked or pulled back or have holes and i can see that the wood sub floor also has holes but still looks sturdy...in my opinion i believe i should remove the tiles along with the sub floor but my mother in law says to remove only the tile flooring and leave the wood sub floor as is. - You'll need to remove the tiles and any backer board that's fastened down to the sub-floor. From that point, follow the instructions for the specific type of hardwood flooring you plan to install. Most will probably recommend an underlayment, which is typically 3/8 to 1/2 plywood or particle board, to provide a smooth, level surface for the flooring to lay on top of. The actual sub-floor is often rough and may have slight mismatches height-wise from one spot to another, and those can produce visible discontinuities (bumps, ridges, depressions, etc) on the finished floor.
- Q: My old flooring has quarter round trim at baseboards. I want to install laminate flooring over old, do I HAVE to take up the quarter round? Is there some other trim that can go on the new flooring edges that butts up to the existing quarter round?
- Gently pry up the quarter round with a pry bar and mark it with tape as to where it goes. After you put your floor down you can put it back in place with a few finish nails. It sounds like a pain but it is the proper way to do your floor and cover the edges of the laminate. It will add a little more time to your project, but the results will be well worth it.

- Yes you must for a couple of reasons. One is to make a clean transition to another surface or area. It allows the floor to expand and contract normally. Another is with that much laminate it will expand/contract a lot and they are needed every 20/25 ft as per your particular laminate calls for. If you don t , the whole floor can expand enough and actually lift off the floor. Also not putting in the proper transition strips may very well void warranties on the product.
