- Not sure exactly what you are asking for, but common side effects of iron supplements include black or green tarry stools. Side effects can be lessened by taking iron between meals. Also, if iron supplements are in liquid form, be sure to use a straw (to avoid staining teeth). Iron should not be taken with dairy products or antacids, and should be taken with vitamin C.
