Q: Im going to put tile floors in my home, and working on a budget so i cant spend too much. question is I am undecided regarding the color, i found a brownish color tile kinda like sienna not to dark 16x16 and another beige with cream and is glossy with a design etch on it really nice, but in a 12x12 i think. anyway, i really like the sienna color for the living room, kitchen, foyer and hallway, but i dont think it would look right in the bathroom, i like the beige for the bath. i have a very small bathroom so wold it look weird to have two diffrent tiles in a home? i plan to paint my living room in a grayish blue color french blue i think its called with white trim but still undecided in bathroom i really need some advise on this so if anyone knows please help
You will probably want to use smaller sized tiles in the bathroom for a few reasons, they will look fine in a different color. You can buy a marble threshold to put in the doorway between the bathroom and hallway that will make for a nice transition.
Q: so i bought tile but not the bull nose end pieces cause they did not have them for that tile. I tiled all the way out to the edge of the counter and now need a way to finish the edge. I have seen wood edges but what is this called and how do you do it? does it butt up against the tile of does it go over? is a wet tile saw supposed to leave ugly, chipped edges? bought a Brand new blade and it did not help.
How To Finish Tile Edges
Q: I had subway tile installed over a standard size tub. The tiler used 2 x 6 bullnose for the vertical boarder rather than maintaining the staggered look by using 3 x 6 bullnose short as I initially intended. Is there a most common approach for the vertical subway boarder around a tub?
There is no particular common approach for tiling a vertical border with bullnose pieces. It is usually just personal preference. Sometimes people will not even use a bullnose piece for the border, they will just pick out some type of decorative piece and use it for the border. Assuming that you used a ceramic gloss white or black (most common colors in subway tiles) , there is usually a wide variety of sizes available in bullnose peice sizes. It is NOT Uncommon for your border pieces to be a different size than the rest of your subway tile if the size picked finishes the tile work off and ties it together in an interesting way. If however you were prompted to ask this question because you asked a Tile Installer to use the 3x6 size and he refused stating that he was using the most common method, then you are most likely dealing with an installer that did it a way other than you specified because he(or she) did not feel like taking the time to make extra cuts it would require for your size to work... The only exception to my last sentence would be if there is something structural that I am not aware of. Hope this helps.
Q: I need tips on how to install tiles around bathroom walls. I have the walls up and taped. Now what??? I leveled and drew a line under the window cell horizontal and vertical. 1) Do I start tiling from the tub up?2) How do I seal - or do I have to seal the tiles (Ceramic tiles 4x4)?3) What type of sealer should I use? Please give me a name that I can easily find @HD or loews.
You should start from the tub up. so you have a nice finished edge where it meets the tub. You start from the center of the long wall so that the cuts on each end are the same. On the short walls you start from the outside so that once agin you have a clean factory edge. Normally you don't have to seal bathroom tiles they have a gloss finish, right? You do have to grout them however, the tiling department at Home Depot will have a few choices, in many colours. Pick one that matches your tiling job, and the paint colour. Read the grouting instructions a couple of times. Be careful when mixing grout, a little water at a time!
Q: ok, I am grouting my ceramic tile in my kitchen and I sponged the tile when I was done and waited for everything to dry. I buffed the dry grout off of the tiles and I noticed that there is dry grout on the tiles and I can‘t get it off. Is there anything I can buy to take the grout off of the face of the tiles before I seal them? Please help.
I just tiled my kitchen too. I wiped them down a million times before I sealed them. Some parts I had to sponge more then others. I dont know how long you let the tiles sit beofre you grouted...I waited about a day. Then grouted and wiped a million times. I then waited about 3 days before sealing the grout. It looks pretty good. If its only a few tiles, try scrubbing a bit harder over that area. The sealer might help too once you get it on there.
Q: Having done some work in the bathroom we would like to reuse some of the tiles we took of which arent broken, does anybody have any suggestions as to how we remove the adhesive and grout so that they can be reused?
really hard to do without breaking them, I have heard that if you get them cold, the mortar can be tapped off, but I always thought they would break, may be cheaper to just replace them
Q: for diferent size tiles are there standard grout joint sizes
This Site Might Help You. RE: what size grout joints for ceramic tile? for diferent size tiles are there standard grout joint sizes
Q: I want to install a towel hook in my bathroom, but it is all ceramic tile, including the walls. Adhesive doesn‘t work. Is there any way to put screws in the tile with out cracking the tiles? Thanks.
Yes, you have to use a concrete drill bit and a high powered drill. Also, if possible put your screws into grout instead of the tile.
Q: For example, in the store will see the cloud of stone bricks, microcrystalline stone bricks and other labels, how is this classification of it? What are the different types of their performance? Humbly ask for advice, thank you!
According to the material can be divided into: glazed tiles, whole body bricks, polished tiles, tiles and so on.
Q: currently have vinyl tile glued to concrete on grade. Want to install bamboo floor / engineered wood. Can we go on top of existing vinyl?
If the vinyl tile thats down now is well bonded, not coming up at all and the floor is flat. There are ways to do it. Most certainly you can do a floating floor system. Glue direct can also be down if certain precautions are done ,like roughing up the vinyl, cleaning it well and the use or the proper glue to bond to vinyl. If the vinyl is loose at all , then the flooring must come up. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
